Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Happy parkrun day everyone. I am not running today as I am running a 10K race tomorrow. I set myself a challenge at Christmas to get back into running and run a 10K. So tomorrow at 3pm I will be running a 10K along the river Boyne at Drogheda. I'm looking forward to it. So today I will be volunteering at my local parkrun as a Marshal. Happy running everyone.
Good luck tomorrow Damien. Youβll smash your 10k, youβve been running so well recently! Look forward to hearing all about it. ππ πββοΈ
Thank you. I got on OK. I was a little bit disappointed as I had to take a quick toilet break mid run which kind of broke my spirit a little. I had to take a couple of small walking breaks in the last 5K. But I continued on and actually did ok with a finish time of 1:01:16. So overall happy. Would have been nice to get the sub 1 hour but there is always next time.
Well done Damien, thatβs a good time for a first 10k race in a while, especially when you consider the toilet break. Next time sub hour without the break, definitely! ππ
Hi Β Β damienair & other parkrunners, (not) parkrunners,
It was our tenth birthday celebration at our park run today. Fancy dress theme was the letter T. Β We didnβt plan very well in our family so I was the only one to have a go at that. Β I threw on a leather jacket and went as a T-Bird π€£Thankfully, hubby was volunteering today as the car park marshal which is about 2km into the run. The leather jacket got flung at him as I ran past. Those volunteers do an amazing job. Once I had the jacket off - I did manage to pick up the pace & came in at 29:45.Β No.2 son had a great run coming in 2nd with a PB of 19:04.
Happy park running to those who can β€οΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Well done RunWillie family. We had an Aussie friend staying this week . Little did she know that she would be signed up for Kawana parkrun by the time she left our house. She was really enthusiastic until she saw the start time 0700. π±
Jenny and I bit the Eastville bullet today; no excuses! It was perfect running weather and I felt great on the hills. However my Garmin disappointed me hugely, only measuring 4.22k. What the β¦ ? Looking at the Strava map itβs all over the shop. Iβve been having issues with its distance measuring recently (only measured 9.5k on my 10k last weekend and even my dog walks are off too), but Iβve checked and double checked the settings etc, and I can see nothing wrong. Iβm losing the will to live with it as itβs new. Iβll call Garmin support this week, and might even revert to the once despised Vivoactive 3 next time out. π
Anyway, Jenny thinks she may have run an Eastville PB and I was pleased with how my run felt, no matter how far I went! π
Awesome runs Cheekyβ¦however far they were! How they feel is the best test. It looks as though Mutley Shuffle has been having some Garmin trouble too. No problems with my faithful 235 today. Could be regional I guess.
Jenny has my beloved 235 Beachcomber66 . I wish Iβd never gifted it to her! Her run was a healthy 5.02km, mine a measly 4.22km. The disappointment when I glanced down when it buzzed the km near the end of the course, and whereas I assumed it was 5km, it was only 4km. Fortunately it took my mind off the hill I was running up as I was so cross! π
Oh believe me BC, chipmunks can throw quite a paddy! You should have heard the one it had when it drove its ride-on mower over a rock this afternoon and broke the blade! It had only just come back from being serviced! πΏοΈπ‘π
He doesnβt have a leg to stand on though, as Iβm the one who always cuts the grass and tomorrow is our 35th wedding anniversary, so he has to be nice to me! π
π Mr CC legless; surely not!! Congratulations for tomorrow, I am sure that self preservation will come to the fore and he will be the perfect gentlemanπ
Good luck tomorrow damienair, youβll have a brilliant time. But you forgot to tell the pom-poms team on the marathon site. I will wave pom-poms all the same, emerald green ones!
Β Β UpTheStanley decided not to run today after running 10 miles on Tuesday out of the blue while I was doing 10k. Unsurprisingly his achilles feel a bit tight! I wanted to run at Β Β JonathanP βs parkrun (Portsmouth Lakeside) because they were celebrating their 7th birthday, rather than ours which is a prime number (431). Cake was promised and delivered! UTS volunteered to marshal and we were both dressed as cats again πββ¬ πββ¬. A beautiful morning for running round the lake and I avoided most puddles without being a hindrance to other runners. UTS was shaking a tambourine and keeping runners on the correct side of the path as the speedy ones came through. My time 34:06 (best there since 2019) 1st of 4 in my age group and 60.36 age grade score. Iβm very happy with that even though I couldnβt catch up with Whereβs Wally. The RD was a bit of a dinosaur!
I am! I decided it was the only fancy dress outfit that I could still get a good time in. Someone thought I was going to volunteer as the Tailwalker π
Good morning Damien, 52:20 isn't a bad time for a 5K WALK, for the first time ever I was the tailwalker at Palacerigg parkrun, my voice at the moment is a little hoarse due to the amount of talking I was talking to the parkwalker, a lot of that talking was about C25K, Peter the parkwalker wants to start C25K, it was his first parkrun, I told him about Healthunlocked and this forum, we managed to get around the course sub 55 minutes, he finished 2 seconds before me as the rules for parkrun are that the tailwalker is last, I enjoyed being the tailwalker but missed running, tomorrow I intend to run 3K as part of my regular Sunday morning walk, altogether I will run/walk about 12 kilometers.
I am a little disappointed that the regular photographer is on holiday in Wales so no photos of me in my tailwalker "uniform", he was there last week when I ran and there are several photos of me running
I notice in my running diary that my next visit to Palacerigg is Saturday 27th May, that's in 4 weeks, on the Sunday before I will put in a request to be tailwalker or parkwalker on that day, the other parkruns I go to will be runs.
Thank you very much Dexy5, I was wondering during the week whether to volunteer as tailwalker or run today after my booster Covid-19 inoculation jab on Friday afternoon, it was you who encouraged me to apply for the position of tailwalker, I feel fine today after yesterday's jab and enjoyed my first tail walk at Palacerigg parkrun this morning. π πΆThe run director also did C25K about 3 years ago and ran The Manchester Marathon 2 weeks ago.
Update Dexy5, it has just been confirmed that I WILL be the TAILWALKER at Palacerigg Country Parkrun on Saturday 27th May, before then I will be running at Springburn parkrun on the occasion of their 9th birthday on Saturday 13th May and on Saturday 20th May I will be running at Dunfermline parkrun.
π I enjoyed my walk but it felt a little strange walking around the course, this course is only one lap so once the runners disappeared I didn't see any more.
Today I went to Richmond Park. Lovely one lap course around the park. Sadly couldnβt spot any deer, but went to the local flower garden and saw lots of flowers in bloom
I decided on a change of scenery this week and went back to Yarborough. It was a beautiful sunny morning for a change with a cool breeze. I reached 5k on my watch around 100m plus short of the finish so stopped it for a time of 32.24 and my official parkrun time was 33.06, my best time of 2023 so far. Creeping back towards 60 age grading with a 58.17% π₯³π₯³ Happy Bank Holiday weekend to those who have May Day!
Good morning Damien and all! Back to running this week as I left Β Katnap to RD as part of his recovery from Thursdayβs run. I did the Event Day Course Check, so I ran from home then the EDCC, then I forgot to check the defibrillators (again), so I had to go back again and check them. So before Iβd even started the parkrun Iβd done 4k, so I thought I might as well top it up to a 10k at the end. Did this a few weeks back and itβs good fun!
It was a congested start, which I find extra difficult as my face is generally at the same height as most peoples elbows. I can get around this by nipping underneath and between people so being short has its pros and cons.
I was happy with my time as I knew it was fairly fast for me. After I got my bar code scanned I toddled off and finished my 10k, which I was chuffed to see was just over 58 minutes and I got an extra VO2 Max point π
Second lap today, the lead runner went past, and he was on a mission today. Heβs the year below youngest kitten at school and he was running in memory of 4 of his friends, 3 of whom died in a car accident a week ago. Itβs been a very difficult week at school this week, as you can imagine, and he was a good 20 seconds ahead of anyone else in that second lap. Heβs an incredible runner but also a very thoughtful kid and he has set up a Go Fund Me site with his friend. So far theyβve raised over Β£100k in aid of the Air Ambulance (apparently 4 came down to aid the accident victims). If anyone would like the link to the site, please DM me. He and his friend will be doing a HM in their memory and I wouldnβt be surprised if heβs first in that as well.
I think it was very cathartic for him BC, but youβre right, heβs using his gift in a really positive way. Apparently the money raised so far will fund 26 flights!
I heard all about that crash TailChaser . My brother-in-lawβs grandchildren and their dadβs (his sonβs) new partner were in the other car. Theyβre still in intensive care and should be ok, but theyβll have life changing injuries. But they were the lucky ones as they made it. π
Oh no Cheeky π’ thatβs truly awful. Iβm so sorry, weβve only heard about it from one side but I did hear a little about the others yesterday. Six degrees of separationβ¦ I worry about how the one kid whoβs survived in the teenagerβs car will be able to cope, heβs got a tough time ahead of him too. We have someone volunteering at the moment who was in a car accident in Manchester a couple of months ago and is still on crutches, Iβm glad he wasnβt able to volunteer today π’
My brother-in-law was distraught when he first heard about it. It was seriously touch and go. He doesnβt see them often (his son and him are estranged but their mum brings them to stay for a few days each summer). She wasnβt the one in the car with them this time as it was his new partner who had gone to pick them up to bring back to see their dad. Theyβre 12 and 10 and had catastrophic injuries from the seatbelts. But without them they wouldnβt have made it. I *think* theyβve turned a corner now. Not sure about how the woman is doing.
I feel so sorry for the families of the teenagers in the other car. The scene at the hospital was horrific by all accounts. βΉοΈ
Covid come back run number two this morning. I was going to try a sub 34 minute 5k but changed my mind at the last minute and went for a 45 minute jog with CB. I was pretty pleased with outcome. 6.29k at 7:11 pace and no point snatching by VO2 max! So everything is headed in the right direction and I have not lost as much fitness as I feared. Long run on Monday. Just an easy paced βsee where my legs take me.β My AHR for the run was pretty good too. Only snags were, first a heavy mist came down, so it was pretty cold and second, the most popular stretch of the trail was awash with Bank Holiday visitors and dogs. 10/12k Monday would be good. 35:24 for the least slow bit today, but this wasnβt about pace. Job done I think.
π captain boringly predictable at present! Plod plod! It looks as though the virus hasnβt done much damage, apart from the loss of 3 runs and a week just lounging around. I am relieved really.
Well done Bc. Iβd completely forgotten about it being a mayday BH until the motley crew reminded me. Hopefully youβll be running before the rest of the world hit your forest tracks.
I get up early enough, but time seems to just leak away before I finally get out of the door. Bit of discipline needed! An hour disappears with my post porridge digestion periodβ¦..maybe I need to get up and going a bit earlier on Monday. I will take my long run route which starts off by heading 5 to 6 k south of the cafe. Not many tourists out there, so (provided my legs are still moving) I will have done about 11k before I hit day tripper territory. Looks as though it will be warmer on Monday too ππ.
Tasha and I ran at Hartlepool this morning and really enjoyed it. Beautiful out and back by the sea in cold and damp conditions...perfect for us ππ Just under 31 minutes as we build back up after Manchester.
The worst bit was having to sit outside to drink my coffee because all of the tables were taken by visitors. Really not a pleasant temperature to sit around in; ok when moving. Well done to both of you for braving the elements.π
Hi Damien and everyone here, it was my 25th park run today at my local course. Itβs quite a tough undulating mixed terrain course. My running club were out in force and I ran with two friends. After lap one of two I felt I had some more energy so I steadily increased my pace and was happy with a pb for this course and my fastest time this year 32:30. Happy with that. βΊοΈ
Today I went on the tourist trail to Blickling. This is a National Trust ground with a beautiful stately home. I chose a great weekend to go (which was a complete fluke!) as it was their rare one lap course which apparently only happens 2-3 times a day due to the permissions required (itβs normally a two lap course). It was a trail run through woodland which was covered with bluebells. The RD said they deliberately time one of the one lap weeks to be when the bluebells are out. It was a lovely course with one rather tough hill. I tried to remember to take in my surroundings as quite often I can get too in my head about the run itself and I donβt appreciate the scenery. I volunteered to do the run report today which was a first for me. We finished off the visit with a treat in the cafe afterwards.
Hi damienair. Tourism for me today, this time to York. A lovely trot around the racecourse in the sunshine. Described as a fast and flat course, it was certainly flat but I was not fast. I blame overindulgence the night before (food not booze). When will I learn? π€£.
Had a really good park run yesterday and got a PB! It was my 21st run and only the 5th time Iβve managed to run the whole distance. The course is still deep puddles and mud here, so not the best conditions, but I went off for coffee with new friends afterwards and enjoyed the whole day!
