The last couple of weeks have been difficult: bad news, a lot of flying back and forth and nowhere near enough sleep. A while ago we booked a short break in Greece for this week but were almost too tired to contemplate coming but thankfully good sense prevailed and here we are.
We arrived late on Wednesday and took a couple of days to settle in. The weather wasn't great but this morning the sun shone. No excuse not to run - blue sky, gentle breeze, 11C according to NRC, Garmin said it was 8C, whatever, the temperature was perfect.
Mr Y and I set off down the hill to run our usual route (we've been here many times before) but I mistook the turning we needed. On the plus side this meant our run started on a downhill, on the minus it meant a really steep climb just after this to take us to where we should be. He ran on ahead, I plodded along, enjoying just taking it easy.
I decided on NRC's 'I Need a Win Run'. I wasn't feeling down or anything, but it was a 30 minute run with Coach B which I haven't done before. I'll be honest, I didn't really pay attention, but he was positive and uplifting and when I did listen he was saying what I wanted to hear.
My Garmin watch's battery died at the 1km mark so I couldn't obsess about numbers. I'd checked before I left and it said there were two blocks of battery left so not sure why it didn't last, maybe the battery is on its way out.
All in all the run felt really easy. I think that the GPS on the NRC app is doing its overgenerous distance thing - telling me I ran 3.72 km in 30 minutes when I know that this run is about 3km give or take. Never mind, I'll take the win like Coach B says I should.
The main thing is I definitely ran for 30 minutes which was exactly what I needed. I'm trying to do the Group 10k so I suppose this is a Week 2 run, though I didn't do the 35 minute Run 3 of Week 1. I need to sit down and work out which runs I need to do to catch up. I know that the weather has interfered with the plans of many of you so let's hope we can all make up lost ground together.
