It’s August and it’s HOT! Badges are here and they’re even hotter! If you’ve hit a milestone in this heat, you deserve to be extra proud of your self! So…if you’ve run 10k or 60 minutes for the first time, you’re in the right place to claim your new and shiny badge. Massive congratulations to you! 🎉🥳🎉🥳🎉
If you would like to claim your badge, reply below and tell me all about how you did it! That’s just because I’m nosey and want to hear all about your triumphant run.
Now you’ve hit your latest goal; you might want to think about what’s next. There are some great suggestions on this thread here…
If you’re even a little bit tempted to go beyond 10k, make sure you pop over to the Fun Beyond 10k forum. There really is a lot of fun to be had there! You’ll be made very welcome, It’s common for people who are running 10k to think about entering events and there’s loads of support (and pom poms!) available there too. Here’s the link….
Not sure whether I should be claiming a 60 min badge but that’s what I ran this morning 😃I’m only on week 5 of Magic plan so I went for the 50 min long run and just kept going because I felt like it! It was really warm, and raining so I was a bit apprehensive when I set off but I forgot about that whilst listening to Coach Bennett & friends. I should probably go back to the plan for next week but I know I’ll be doing the 55 min run and think “it’s only another 5 mins so just do 60 mins anyway” 😉

You ran 60 minutes…you absolutely deserve the badge! Congratulations!! A lot of us get carried away on a run or two. I ran 10k when I was aiming for 8k. No judgement here! Enjoy your build to 10k and I’ll swap your badges when you’re ready!
Thanks, I’m buzzing about it 😁 I still feel like I’m an old bloke trying to run but hey if I can run for 60 mins I can definitely call myself a runner! Next stop 10K, I’ll be back to add that shiny badge to my collection!
managed a 10k in June , just can’t seem to get there again , 5-8k is fine , and now Achilles tendon is really tender , need to find some advice on fixing preventing that as now need to rest up !
Ouch... i feel your pain. The only thing really if it is painful is to rest up. There are some exercises that you could do, but we need to be sure that no other damage is being caused.
If it is painful to walk or limiting foot mobility, then please do get it checked out... if it is just tender then you could try some gentle exercises.
had to resort to the professionals , ultrasound scan showing scar tissue on calf and inflamed Achilles - physio and exercise and a few painful bills from the physio!
Hope to be back running in a week or so - any ideas on how far to go for first few runs ??
I wonder how much running ability I will have lost after 5 wks ?
Been there (not Achilles but totally relate to the painful bills!). It will be worth it in the end.
Did your physio give you any guidance about starting running? They’re absolutely the best person to advise you. I had clear instructions about how much pain was acceptable for how long and at what point in the run. That was really helpful. The aim was always to stop before I got pain above a certain level. I started with short, continuous runs gradually increasing in length. I know if people with other injuries who have done run/walk intervals like you get on couch to 5k.
Sorry that’s totally non-specific! It’s not really a question we’re equipped here to answer. I’d go with the general aim to stay pain free and keep it short and steady, but if you’re able to have a quick conversation with your physio, you’ll most likely find that really, really helpful. Mentally it can be quite tough to come back and I really valued being able to tell myself “It’s ok-physio guy said at this point in the run some grumbling up to this level is ok”. Or “Physio said to stop if this happened and I paid him for all his knowledge so I’d better listen!”.
Thanks for the reply and good advice , I will quiz the physio on best way to get back into running when I see her next week 👍 just hope my legs and muscles haven’t lost too much go !🤣
Depending on what physio exercises you’ve been doing, you might be pleasantly surprised! In the long run, you’ll get there though. Most of us have a blip like this along the way. It’s a pain but we get through it and we get stronger.
