A very warm 8K

I got up early hoping to get out early, but I didn't make it until after 8 AM and it was already a bit warm. I went out thinking that I would try an 8K recovery run at a nice and slow pace. I'd been out a couple of days ago for a 4K.

I decided to mix things up a bit by taking a different starting point and taking some of the paths that lead off of the canal. That was great fun to see where I was and what I could do in future runs.

The heat was working on me from early on and I kept wondering if I should cut things short. But I was listening to an interesting podcast and decided to persevere. CB asked me to increase my effort a couple of times and I did. Always nice to meet one of his challenges.

I kept waiting for that 'I've got this' feeling and it never came today. At 7K I decided to walk a bit and then finish off strong so that's what I did.

Great to be back out there and >5K run. Thursday, I think, will be an interval run!

Sounds like a great run! And a good idea to keep it steady.

I believe we should challenge ourselves a little in the heat. For example - I’ll run early in the morning if it’s hot - but I cancelled going to running club tonight as it’s going to be 29/30 degrees. I ran early this morning when it was 18! And I took it steady, too 😊

That's a beautiful photo 😁This heat is a real challenge, well done for challenging yourself but having the confidence to know when it's time to step back the effort and walk.

Starting in a new place on a well worn route is a really nice way to mix things up. See also running circular routes in the other direction.

Nice run!
