So Sunday saw me take part in the Long Course Weekend Wales, Tenby 5k or The Wales 5k, and it was amazing. I got to run down the red carpet with fireworks and crowds cheering, I thought I'd had a bad run as it was hot and a nasty hill at the half way point and I just didn't have the energy to take advantage of the down hill sections but came 2nd in my age category 60/65, and 50th out of 200+ runners although my time was well over a minute slower than my best, I was coming off of a week of having some sort of virus, so probably shouldn't have run but hey ho?

The whole weekend is based around the main event of a 2.4 mile swim on Friday, 112 mile bike ride on Saturday and then a full marathon on the Sunday, as well as the main event there are shorter distances to compete at, Sunday you had the choice of 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon, I think there were around 4000 runners on the day.

if bikes are your thing you could do 40 mile, 70 mile and 112 mile, I really recommend this weekend the atmosphere is electric and everyone is so friendly and a lot of the locals are out in support cheering all the competitors on. Parking was a doddle in the local high school and only a fiver for all day, can't complain at that. The chap that won the LCW event completed his swim, bike and run in just over 8 hours, there were so many impressive people there the oldest 5k runner was 78 who finished in a time of 38:45.

Now I'm suffering from too much sun🤦‍♂️☀️☀️ so taking on loads of fluids, next up is a 750m swim in Cardiff Bay next Saturday, I've also now joined a triathlon club so I'm one step closer to achieving my goal, just need to up my fitness levels and try and get more organised with my training, if it all goes well I hope to complete a sprint tri later in the year but I am running out of time as events come to an end around September, still there's always next year👍🙂

All in all a brilliant time was had and I'm looking at entries for next year already, might do the 10k or even the half marathon, or if I'm feeling brave maybe look at doing the LCW half distance😜😁

Thank you👍 Like I said the atmosphere was electric, so many people, it really does carry you across the finish line, I'm not sure how many there were on Sunday but for the Saturday I did hear 30 thousand + mentioned,

Now I've joined a club I will have face to face access to coaches, hopefully they'll be able to help me improve or at the very least sort out a decent training plan and dealing with real people means it won't be as easy to pull out of a training session.
