A couple of months ago, I had bought Just One Thing, the book by Michael Mosley, as a present for my hubby, and we had picked this up again during the recent searches for him and subsequent sad news of his passing. Both hubby and I immensely respected his achievements and we had been also listening to his podcasts.
So I started reading his book again this morning, but was also getting ready for a morning run after some days of travel.
So I quickly put together the song playlist he provided in his chapter on morning walks. The songs are also either 100 or 200 BPM, so a bit of a different beat than I would normally run to, but I wanted to give this a go. It seems a nice way to commemorate him, and personally express my appreciation through a morning run. So I jeffed 1/1min, being able to try out the music song-list for both walking and running.
So here’s the playlist I set up, using the list Michael Mosley provides (p47). It’s really fun, although either too slow or too fast for my walking or running, but I did enjoy this:
Thanks for this. I'm listening to it as I type and I have to say Shakira's song might do me an injury if I tried to run to that! 🤣🤣🤣 I have been doing Michael Mosley's diet and it is fantastic - he has a massive following. His death was such a tragedy - a real wake up call on the dangers of exercising in high temperatures.
Yes, such a tragedy. I was surprisingly emotional about it, although I didn’t actively seek out his works. But we benefitted from his voice being with us, on our screens and podcasts for a long time.
Yes the 5/2. I know what you mean about how present he was in the media though. That's how I found out about his diet. So sad - must have been a horrific shock for his family.
I did do the 5/2 for almost a year, this was maybe 7-9 years ago before he published, I think. , but then I heard controversial views on it conflicting with my thyroid condition. Quite difficult to assess sometimes what is good and bad for you.
And a wake up to what global warming means - it's lethal - he is one of several people who have died on holiday in that area in recent weeks (as for the huge numbers dying in the heat of the hajj...)
Absolutely. It's easy to be complacent when you live in a cool country (although we have weather shocks of our own), but when you look at other parts of the world it is terrifying.
Yes, being in London last week (via train) was already a reminder of the several degrees difference just a few 100km can make. Climate change … it makes me cry 😭😭😭😭
RIP Michael Mosley, a broadcaster who was always worth listening to for so many reasons. Like you, CBDB , and I suspect many others I was surprised how sad I felt at the way things turned out.
I was really sad to hear about Michael Mosely. I often listened to his podcasts and I’d read some of his books. He seemed like a lovely man with a genuine desire to help people be more healthy. Hard for the family to deal with such a sudden loss too. Just very sad.
Yes, it was so sad! And a reality check of how fast our bodies can fail us. But also that you have to live life to the full, and in my head, he also did this on his last walk. 🥲
Michael Mosley's tragic death felt so personal - we were regular listeners to his radio programmes and enjoyed his warm voice and sense of humour. Every time I eat some nuts, drink green tea or do a plank, I think of him. I hope his 'Just one thing' programmes stay on BBC Sounds for years to come, so he can live on by inspiring even more people to take control of their health and wellbeing. Thinking of his family and sending them hugs....
Also was surprised by how invested I was in finding him and how awful I felt for his family when it was obviously not going to be a happy outcome. A series of unfortunate decisions that could have ended as a moral tale on one of his programmes became lethal.
His friendly voice still echoes around my head suggesting I eat more slowly or smile at a stranger…
Thank you for the playlist. I’ll think of him hating exercise but doing it anyway.
Thanks for this... MM was the reason we started to change some of our eating habits a tad, after Mr OF was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, years ago...not diet related but genetic.
His book, The Eight Week Blood Sugar Diet, helped enormously. We did it with tweaks because for us the fasting does just not work. We do have too his wife's book which supported the change too, with loads of quick, simple and really tasty recipe ideas!
The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book by Clare Bailey.
So many issues with heat and heat exhaustion. It is so insidious... Mr OF had a bout of heat stroke after some Summer camps with his squadron of Air cadets.. it culminated in a visit to an Air Show, which, according to the Drs who treated him was the final step too far. Totally unaware of any problem until that point!
Hydration and the right sun run gear, so so important...I recall one of out most experienced runners, coming unstuck. during one very warm spell. Fortunately she was okay !
