Running to Welcome Spring

I had lots of reasons to run this morning. Many of my virtual running buddies (who are on here) were doing a half marathon or 10km today and I wanted to show my support. Since slowing down to do chatty running I have begun to build up my distance but I’m not ready for 10km just yet. Therefore I thought I would time my 5km run (which is also my Not Parkrun) to be out at the same time. I also had their Spotify play list so I could hear the same tunes. In addition my bestie, Sandie1961 had suggested we do the Run for Spring as it had a nice medal and T-shirt. The weather was wild and blustery and I was worried for the ladies running on the south coast and hoped they were not suffering too much. I headed up the canal, the route was reasonably sheltered and for some reason the return route along the alleyways of the housing estate always seems to be down hill. I was glad of the slight pause for traffic when I crossed the main road and geared myself up for the last 1.5kms around the park. As I feared the wind was tearing across the open space and I was nearly blown over. The sight of some jolly lady runners coming the other way spurred me on and I finish with a respectable average pace of 8.10/km (which is about my normal pace these days). So glad to be out and really nice to feel part of something even when running alone.

Well done shakes, a lovely T-shirt too.

No need to worry about this lady on the south coast- I’m running on Tuesday when it calms down.
