How better to celebrate getting a new phone than an NRC guided run? It's been a while since I've done intervals so I flicked through the options, looking for something fairly short, around the 25 minute mark (the thought of breakfast was already in my mind). I'll be honest, they all looked a little bit more energetic than I felt. Near the end of the selection was 'Speed Run b4 the Half'. 23 minutes: great, 5K 10K and HM pace: hmm, never done a HM pace before but presumably it's slow so that's good, Coach B coaching: oh yes! This was it.
Most of the guided runs I've done when I've been on a NRC plan have been pretty generic, not referring to the plan at all. This one was different. 'This is your last run before the HM' 'You have been working so hard' 'Your next run will be the race' - er, no it won't....
I decided to take on board all the complimentary stuff he was saying and ignore the HM bits. If I ever do a HM (unlikely) the surprise will be spoilt but I have to say it was exactly the run I wanted to do.
Just don't rat on me to the Coach

🤣🤣🤣 he wasn’t there when I called on him last night. I don’t think he’ll mind you using him as you see fit.,,you’re the head coach after all!!
I really enjoyed that run last time I did it. Sounds like a great one for you too! You’ve done lots of hard work being on holiday in all that sunshine so I think his complimentary comments were definitely applicable!!!
I know! Rude, right? Him and Andy P were probably out living the high life. I was supposed to be doing “Running toward your goals” which is one of my favourites too! I ended up listening to Electoral Dysfunction instead which I enjoyed in a very different way!!
Don’t worry, he is still carrying out the inquest into my Monday HM and working out why I couldn’t hear a thing through my aftershokz; just the sound of silence! You could do an HM if you want to…..🙂
Wanting to do a HM and doing a HM are pretty different prospects in my book! My daughter in law ran one and, in the time she took to do the run I ran 5k, showered, breakfasted and drove for two hours to Brighton! It brought home to me what an amazing achievement the HM is and acted as a reality check.
If I could do it in 2-3 hours I'd give it a go but I really don't think I could just run and run for a whole 4+ hours.
I think that you are right. 3 hours or under is fine…. I couldn’t do 4+ hours. For my first, I had already achieved 10 miles. One day I just set off really slowly to see how far I could go….and somehow managed.
Oooh I've never done that one before, I'll have to give it a go soon - short runs are what I'm after at the moment. I'm trying to get back into it after a very long break from regular running 😱 I promise I won't tell coach B! 😉😅
Maybe we need a pinned post with recommendations… you’ve got me thinking now! I can’t wait to be back at 90mins so I can do the Run with Lopez one again. That’s my all time favourite. It comes in three 30 minute parts so I could take it a chunk at a time but I just loved listening to the whole thing last time I did it. That’s still a little way off for me though!
Runner Up and Hill, hillier, hilliest are ones I keep going back to.
OOOO ! I need to check that one out... sounds like a fun run! Maybe not this morning though... a more leisurely ramble through the poppy fields before heading home!
Sounds like a super run too... you have had a busy time and needed that run!
CB does know exactly what to say... I feel sometimes he reads our minds!!!
