Have you run 10k or 60 minutes for the first time? If so, you’re in the right place to claim your new and shiny badge! Massive congratulations to you! It’s another milestone to be super proud of.

If you would like to claim your badge, reply below and tell me all about how you did it! That’s just because I’m nosey and want to hear all about your triumphant run.

Now you’ve hit your latest goal; you might want to think about what’s next. There are some great suggestions on this thread here…

If you’re even a little bit tempted to go beyond 10k, make sure you pop over to the Fun Beyond 10k forum. There really is a lot of fun to be had there! You’ll be made very welcome, It’s common for people who are running 10k to think about entering events and there’s loads of support (and pom poms!) available there too. Here’s the link….

So who’s going to be my first badge of the month? I can’t wait to see you!

First run of over an hour for me during May!

I did a lot of running in my 20s and 30s and then life got to busy so it all stopped.

I took up C25K a few years ago and since November 2022 I am now a regular park runner and do 5 k runs too. I’ve been running with a few others that I’ve met and we’ve made a commitment to a 10K run in September! So, I am well into training to get me from 5 up to 10k. During May I managed 5 mile runs and ran for over an hour for the first time in several decades, and it felt great!

Onwards now to further training to get me to 10K, let’s see how the coming weeks go.

I ran my first hour ( and a few minutes to make up 5 miles!) this week.

My post is on c25k, running through grief.

It felt like a great achievement and was on a high for the rest of the day!

Well, I did my 10k this morning! I walked a couple of times but I have run 10k in the training so I think I'm ok to request a badge. I will put a race report over on the Fun Beyond 10k forum in the next couple of days.

I was hoping to do another race in the Autumn but I can't find one that I want to do. So I think I've decided instead to start the NRC half marathon plan, running all the runs but only running 3x per week (so it'll take me longer). And do a few parkruns. I don't have time to commit to training for a half marathon, but I think this will improve my endurance and also my speed at the 5k and 10k distances (without focusing loads on speed work).

That’s absolutely brilliant news! Congratulations!!! I’ve awarded your 10k badge now and can’t wait to hear about the race. You deserve to be really proud of yourself!

I did that HM plan three times a week and really enjoyed it! Don’t be afraid to add cutback weeks and build the longer runs more slowly if that suits you best. I found the biggest difference going from 10k to HM was needing to eat and drink during the run. It took a while to find what worked but it was a fun journey. Wishing you loads of luck and looking forward to seeing how you get on! I think you’ll love it!

That's a good point about cutback weeks. My intention is if I do a parkrun to maybe use the rest of the week to do easy runs. Because I'm not going to be training for an event I should be able to take it easy.

I’ve always needed to add cut back weeks-most of the training plans I’ve followed so far haven’t had them- I don’t think the NRC HM plan does. I find without them I get a bit tired and if there’s a holiday or a busy week, it’s nice to make a conscious decision to take a cut back week instead of feeling guilty or behind. I’m currently doing an 18 week plan but I’ve started a couple of weeks early to allow for a few breathers when life happens!

Who knows…maybe during your journey you’ll find an event you like the look of. Either way, it’s a really satisfying distance to build to!

Hello, I am not frequently on this site, but it it is finally the time to request 10K badge... . This site was massively helpful when I was dreading my runs. But luckily - that is in the past! I got to the point that I now know that I will feel better after my run.

Last year I had my 50th birthday and did my first munro climb - that started a year of fabulous hiking. This year, a couple of days after my birthday, I went on a run, and felt that it was one of those rare days when you run effortlessly. So.... I went for 10K and completed it! I am still amazed that I did it at 6:30/ km overall pace though I not always able to run at that pace even shorter distances. The one who struggled with 10K was my border collie. She turned 11 this year and 10K proved to be longer and harder for her than I thought. She is my absolutely trusted buddy and running companion - I started running with her, and we completed all runs together. She used to pull me forward and now.... I was pulling her. I even had to let her off the lead (I have a waste-belt, but not canicross) and coach with occasional treat.

It was never my 'goal' - I run for physical and mental wellness. But it happened... Slow and steady wins the race.... against myself. Thank you all for support even if I am just a passive reader.

That’s absolutely fantastic news!!! You hot that milestone in style. Congratulation!! 🎉🥳🏃‍♀️. I absolutely love border collies-I’m so envious of your running partner…,even if they are a bit of a challenge at times!!

Massive achievement-I really hope you’ve done some serious celebrating!!

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words!

My 'celebrating' is in my heart. That 10K unintentionally started something else. I learnt that a person who was very close to me is terminally ill and has only months to live. As I can't help in any other way, now, when I run, and it gets hard, I notionally 'dedicate' my effort in exchange of it being easier to him on the days when it is or will be a real struggle. I wish to 'carry' his discomfort at least a little bit...

Aw, sending hugs. I was training for a half marathon as my best friend was dying from cancer. Running is a great way to process big feelings-at times bringing time to think about it and at other times, time to switch your brain off. It’s so hard. Thinking of you, ❤️‍🩹
