I took a break over the weekend from running, and went swimming, I took part in the 750m Swansea Swim which was part of the Swansea Triathlon weekend, there was a 3000m and 1900m swim but the 750 was my distance, the atmosphere was amazing, everybody had smiles on their faces and were genuinely friendly, and I know it's hard to believe, but the sun was out, I watched the two longer distance swims and then it was our turn, we were given a safety briefing and were told which buoys we had to turn at, then we had 5 minutes to get in and a quick warm up, firstly the water was warmer than anticipated thankfully but the biggest surprise to me, it was salt water, it hadn't occurred to me that it would be sea water🤢🙄 anyway no time to worry, the horn was sounded and off we went, obviously you couldn't see more than a couple of foot away, so every now and then you would be aware of a dark shape close by, a foot or hand a few inches away from your face and I was bumped into a couple of times presumably it was other swimmers🤔 I managed to swim into the first buoy but at least I was on the right side of it, 50m to the next buoy and then head towards the finish pontoon, that was easier said than done, still with only a vague idea that I was heading in the right direction I pushed on, I made it to the pontoon had help to get out and then a quick wobble/jog to the actual finish line, I completed the race in 13: 26 which put me 3rd in my age category and 17th out of 50 overall, I felt so proud and relieved all at the same time, I can't wait to do it again.😁
Then on Monday I hiked up to Llyn yr Fan Fawr and swam across that, boy was that cold, not so much the water but afterwards when I got out, your body temperature continues to drop for a while after you get out of the water, I had some snacks and a flask of hot chocolate with me, so took my time and warmed up, before hiking back down. That's a picture of the lake at the top of the page
