In a last minute decision, hubby and I decided to drive out to the lake so he could get a bit of work done on the houseboat and I thought "Time for a quick lake run!!!" It was sunny but windy. I wasn't sure if the ice would be off the lake or not. The last time we were out there a few weeks ago, that wind was so cold as it blew over the ice on the lake. I tried to plan for any temperature and hoped as I got into the campground, I would be protected from the wind so I wore my ColdGear tights, my long compression socks since my legs are a little achy from Friday's run, my heatgear long sleeve top and thin running jacket. I knew the ground would be mucky so wore my trail shoes and my bright gaiters to keep the dirt out of my shoes....and to keep an eye out for ticks. They should be making their appearance any time now. As we drove over the bridge you could see a thin channel of open water but still lots of ice (a few hours later on our drive home that channel had opened up dramatically). It is hard to believe last year at this time, the docks were hooked back up and our neighbour had his houseboat in the water already. Now the marina is still boarded up, the ice is still on and the water is insanely low. It is tough to say if the marina will be allowed to open as usual this year but our fingers are crossed.
It was a nice brisk warm up walk through the marina parking lot. As I ran past my friend's house on the way to the campground, I heard someone calling my name. I turned around; it was my friend that I hadn't seen since we had to practice social distancing running in her Birkenstock's and jeans trying to catch up with me. It was so good to see her! I promised to finish my run near her house and pop by for a quick hello on the deck while maintaining our distance. Oh how I've missed her! It took all my self control to not give her a huge hug when I saw her, but we behaved and did a virtual hug instead π. She took off back home and I made my way to the campground.
The campground was so quiet and peaceful. All the roads were blocked off, there were no workers, no campers, no heavenly smell of campfires and breakfast like in the summer. I really enjoyed my solo quiet run, weaving through the different loops, checking for ticks whenever I had to go off road. Thankfully no ticks despite forgetting to put on bug spray, just a perfect run out at the lake followed by a short visit with my friend on her deck. I did feel a little guilty having this visit but we were very careful to maintain our distance. It was the perfect little pick me up that I needed heading into the next work week.

Ah Sask....your run sounds enchanting! A pick me up, just reading it! π€ How amazing to get to see your friend too. I know that feeling when you want to give someone you love a great big hug and you canβt. Words... a big smile and love in the eyes is the new hug for now. Itβs a language in itself and you speak it well. Thank you for the post and the amazing pictures. Big hugs to you! Stay safe & run on.πββοΈβ€οΈ
Thanks for the virtual hug π€. I did feel very free out there, not having to worry about people once I got into the campground. It was very liberating.
Isn't that the truth! I've even been careful not to even hug my kiddo because he isn't exposed to anyone while my husband and I still have to leave the house for work. I gave him a huge hug on the weekend because I just couldn't take it anymore. And even though he is a tween, he took it like a champ. It was so lovely π€π
Great to give kiddo hug. All I want this april23 to give my daughter hug and be there for her birthday. I had low hemoglobin I almost not make except for my good doc. This wish I hope she grants me as Tom not promised.
Everything is still quite brown but it looks like this week is supposed to be quite warm, so there should be some new growth and green starting soon π€. Maybe by the next time I get to run out there.
I'm glad you enjoyed your Canadian run. Just wait until I can get up into my trails. I saw some people parked at the trail head heading into the hills but the trails are very narrow animal trails so if you meet someone there is no way you can stay six feet away. For now, I'm just so happy being at the lake running through the campground
Thanks Jell π. Me too! I brought bug spray but didn't think about it until I was cutting through the grass. Of course, it was still in my truck. π
What a fabulous read! You certainly made the most of your weekend. I hope you have a positive week at work and keep thinking back to memories of your recent runs. Look after yourself out there!
Love it Allie! Sounds like just what was needed. And you got some sunshine too. Must have been so nice to see your friend after so long too. Hereβs to more of this!
Hear! Hear! I sure hope so. The next week is supposed to be gorgeous so hopefully we can get out after work some nights and enjoy as much of it as possible.
Oh that sounds lovely Sask. It's so nice to read your posts again as I was drifting over to that very lake and feeling the slightly chilly air as I stuck on my Salomons and joined you. There are going to be so many hugs when this is all over!
I'm so glad I could bring you along on my run. I haven't been posting much lately since there hasn't been much to share as I run circles in my neighbourhood. It was so great to have a change of scenery in one of my favourite places.
