over pronunciated ankles

so here we are again! I've gone back through Couch 2 5k without injury and even indulged in a bit of Steve Cram action with the apre couch program. Did 7k on Wednesday and now the old ankles are giving me jip! When I first started I went and had the gait analysis and was told that my ankles were over pronunciated (feet tucked away not under the ankle) sooo, would buying running shoes to compensate for this allow me to carry on relatively pain free?

Welcome back! What a pain (literally!) about the ankles. It could be shoes. Have you been running in shoes recommended for over pronation? I think I’d be heading to a local independent running shop if not! I’ve had the best help choosing trainers from mine and everything they’ve recommended has been great.

It might be that your ankles aren’t as strong as they need to be to cope with the increased distance. If the pain doesn’t settle, it’s worth a chat with a physio (or other suitably qualified person) to see what they recommend. Loads of us have niggles like this and we just get stronger and move on! Hopefully it’ll just be a case of new shoes and a bit of strength to sort you out, but it’s best to seek real life advice when pain is affecting your runs.

We do sometimes really neglect our feet and the exercise for them, our most valuable piece of our equipment, maybe, is well worth doing.
