Up and running!!

Hi guys - my first post in a number of years !! Post covid my times for 5K ,relative to my previous best efforts , when I’d regularly recorded under 30 minutes for this distance ( my Pb was about 28:47 ) had plateaued at an average of about 33 minutes and I was very despondent thinking that these timings were now the new norm , as it were …. Well , for the first time ever I ran the Park Run at Stirchley ,Bham on Saturday …. And recorded my best ever time for 5K at 27:31 !!

Where on earth did that come from ?!?! Considering I’d recorded 34 minutes less than a week before !!

The buzz of a new challenge ?running alongside my future son- in law ? (32 years younger !!) May be the perceived threat to my ‘ego’ ?

I don’t know, but I feel that after 3-4 years of having lost my mo jo ,that the sun has risen a new on my running world !!

So much , on reflection, I feel, is related to not setting goals or having a progressive training routine ….

or lacking of a running buddy to push me along when I start to become unfocused or lazy Lol

Anyway - We are running the Bham Great run in 2 weeks time - aiming at about 1:0:5 or there abouts - really looking forward to what is always a very rewarding day out - (we always go for a celebratory meal an drink afterwards !! ) Thanks for a listening ear guys - this running game is not over … till it’s over 😁

That is a brilliant time and sets you up really well for your 10K. Keep on keeping on!!

This got me thinking. What I’m after is not a progressive programme but one that is simply varied, where steps up (or down) in difficulty are not leading me but reflecting where I am at the time.
