Good Morning QUESTERS...

Well... firstly...HUGE apologies from me!

I woke at 2 a.m. this morning in a blind panic... because I had forgotten to do the new Quest post. This last week has been frenetic, and the way the days are speeding along amazes me!

So much happening; appointments and sorting of stuff our for Mr OF.. resulting in a rather heated exchange, ( not on my part ), with someone who simply refused to listen to the fact, and the icing on the cake, a Gas boiler that had given its all ...cold, wet weather, heaters lifted from lofts, and the weather then changing, from cold to very, very cold! Perfect!

I have been playing catch up with so many things and my head was full of stuff!

BUT...enough of my moans... I am here now.... and having a week like last week, I think I managed one little run, since last Sunday. Last Sunday, the run was cut short... it was bitterly cold and my fingers were dead! A very short foray to the village, mid week, was better,. I was so togged up, that the cold and fog had no chance... and although short , as my lovely friend, BBR would say to me, “... it was a run and you runned it” !

Weirdly, it was a very good run, and I do know that the back up I have with my regular exercise routine is keeping things going, and helping keep me strong.

But.. enough of my rambling.. what about all of you awesome folk ! I cannot wait to see the goals you have for this month!

Or how the first week has gone! Is your Quest going to plan?

If you are new to the Quest, here is the info !

SO: What is the Quest ?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

You do need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Some popular goals are:

♦️To run three times a week

♦️To slowly increase distance

♦️To train for a specific race

♦️To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.

Oldfloss x

PS

I will try to get the next post out on time!

PPS

It was gone 3.30 before I fell asleep!

🍏🤗A hug for you and MrOF on this very cold, wet and windy day. Toooo much for you to contend with this past week especially the last 24hours! Thank you for getting this Quest out today in spite of it all.

My Quest, running & exercise routine all fell apart this past week. Vertigo & an ear infection which are not responding very quickly to the medication prescribed by my GP.

So for this new week that begins with heavy rain, strong winds & cold temperatures my Quest is simple.

🍏 Have patience with myself. When we can’t run, we can’t run! I can do ankle rolls, hand & arm exercises, sitting down that don’t make the vertigo worse.

🍏See an ENT consultant & get expert help!

🍏 Read up some of the articles & blogs I never usually have time to do. & plan my next Quest when the problem resolves.

Hope many of you have had a better week!! Happy Questing everyone!

Hello ,,, welcome and thank YOU!

You have had quite a time of it too ! Your Quest sounds one that I shall take bits from, as I tweak mine for this week!

Your sitting down exercises... perfect!

Expert help when needed, perfect !

Reading... finding information out.... and planning ahead... Perfect.

This all sounds good to me... and I really hope that vertigo and infection start responding soon. I empathise. The antibiotic spray, prescribed for me, when I had the same... did do the trick, very quicky... but we are all very different...

Take it gently as on you go x

What a week you've had. Please don't beat yourself up over things you haven't done, we all do what we can when we can in an effort to be kind to ourselves. I'm pleased that I seem to have met my goals this week in spite of a busy 3 days away getting heavily involved in childcare. We had our first solo 'take care of the baby day', with both parents out from 7.30am to 5pm. A mixed day, but we all survived, but my back is sore from lifting and rocking a squirmy baby now. So what else have I managed:

🏃‍♂️3 short runs of 4-5k

🚴2 modest cycles 10k & 20k

🧎‍♂️2 beginner pilates sessions

🏋️‍♀️2 S&F

plus loads of unlogged walking, some with an unruly pushchair. All in all very acceptable.

Oh goodness.. well done you on your first take care day!!! You need to be strong to cope with the small one!

You are right.. so what we are able and be kind to ourselves!

Your goals sound doable and realistic... and we shall look forward to your progress... !

You have had a difficult week Floss, and a very cold one on top of your other worries!

We know our runs are there to be enjoyed not to add pressure to our busy lives, sorry too that your worry over this quest post disturbed your sleep. We will wait too. x

My quest is going well, in that I successfully completed runs 2 and 3 of Week 5 c25k. I now feel ready to start running further, I think I will run the first two of Wk6 and then pick an interval and go with it to build up towards that 10k goal.

I am using YWA practices everyday to strengthen my core, arms and keep flexible. I really enjoy it so never feel it is a chore.

I am keeping a positive mindset that all will be well and the stamina will be there when I need it.

🤞🌷🌷🌷

I woke with a jump, but fortunately it was, far too chilly to get up and type one out immediately! 🤣

I like your idea of tweaking and moving on... I am tweaking now and will probably just do my own thing and try and increase run times...I have run up to 5 minute , just over so far...just need the weather to play ball!

Your regular exercise support is going to stand you in good stead... I know that myself and even my T'ai Chi is playing a part!

Stay positive and have that belief in yourself... I am sure you will get there, as will I...slow and steady and I hope... strong !

Well done you... on you go! x

Hi Oldfloss 🙋‍♀️

So my quest for this week is …...

♦️Continue my revisit of C25K with Steve Cram which means running 3 short runs🤞

♦️Be more determined to succeed 🤞

♦️Keep looking for the positives in everything 🤞

I might try to make time for Pilates. However I’ve got a busy ish week so I might have to for go that quest.

Looking for the positive's in everything... what a goal...one we maybe all could try to take heart from too.

Determination too... and how hard that can be some times...!

Your run choice too...

All great goals and ones I feel sure you will meet... looking out for your posts as you move on x

Hi Oldfloss , well I'm afraid it isn't good news from me. I visited the physiotherapist on Wednesday evening and got checked out. He suggested my worn out shoes had contributed to my knee cartilage taking a hammering, but after testing the joint in every conceivable direction concluded there was no long-term damage. New shoes, shorten my stride, but able to resume running at 2 miles per run max for a week, and add a mile to the long run every week was his advice.

So on Saturday I visited Runners World, got my gait rechecked and purchased a new pair of shoes. Saucony Munichs again, this time the latest mark 5 in an 'S' for supportive, and half a size smaller.

This morning off I trotted to test them out and got about a mile before the knee started to complain. So I walked home in disgust.

Difficult to know what to do now. Obviously rest it for another period - maybe two weeks, maybe a month? Not easy to know for sure. Then pick up again very gradually.

Meanwhile, pondering whether to get a bicycle, an exercise bike, or something else to keep my fitness level even if I lose running fitness. I fancy a Zwift setup, but one way or another that's rather expensive.

Wishing everyone better luck than mine right now!

Ah those weeks! Big hugs!

I by contrast had almost a week of not getting out and being inside when the weather was lovely (or at least not filthy) and when, according to what was in the calendar, I could have. Partly this was because I chose to spend some of the sunshine on that interesting fitness activity - gardening. This involved the digging of a hole and the dragging of a heavy plant from the front of the house all the way to the top of the garden. I was pleased with that effort... but in retrospect it knocked me out for days after.

1) Will appointment not made, but I have informed MrGM of my intentions for the month.

2) One 30 minute run, which I very much enjoyed (and a lot of poring over a map to plan my next 5k route)

3) Yoga's been the wobbly thing - I have done some, including a couple of classes (but one of them was entirely savasana...) but my act has not been together.

4) Reading 52 ways to walk and preparing for lighter evening walks... reading is underway. The evening walks a bit stymied by MrGM having a cold... but we did eat chips in the car at Longstone Edge one evening and I am taking that as walking preparation! I also did a pace checker on the Active 10 app and found that what feels like a comfortable pace for me is enough to count as brisk walking after all. This was a big revelation over 12 years late! Also combined collection of a YoungGM for yet another go-round of a gruelling assessment of his differences (which has had a frustrating outcome), and airing/enrichment of my Mum who has dementia with a walk was pleasing.

5) Moving out of the red zone on the BMI chart. Ack, it was going well, and then in the last couple of days... (and I don't particularly know why in either direction)

Thank you... hug received gratefully, GoogleMe

Well... lots of positives here... even hidden ones... I do wonder why we do these supposedly, good idea, things and then wonder, why did I do that !!! Does the plant like its new home?

Steps made towards will appointment.. tick !

Lovely 20 minute joy run...tick!

Yoga... some but not completely successful... half tick?

Reading, yes... chips in the car... yes! Revelations on walking or running...yes?

The issues with young GM,,, grueling and probably very frustrating... I empathise so much. A walk with Mum... helping her, and probably you too, in all sort of ways.

The weight... up down, the whys and wherefores ! Who knows... I have ditched the scales and go with the clothes and how they feel!

I feel your Quest is going well... lots of steps forward and new steps being planned too. I look forward to this time next week and seeing where you are. Brilliant!

I’m a bit late as well, but here I am:

🔲 I’m about to finish my ASICS Runkeeper plan (1 run to go!!!!)

✅ I’m doing my regular walks (yup, I did them, and am mighty proud! No back aches! Keeping my fingers crossed that it will long continue!)

✅ i am having a lot of fun playing around with my heart rate monitor stats from rowing and running

So I’m doing ok! 😊😊😊😊😊😀

P.s. sending you loads of warmth. I know how miserable it is with no heating! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
