This morning I did a 5k run from the NRC 10k plan. It was the Coach B narrated "Finish Lines" and I must confess it really didn't do it for me. The idea was he'd set you up with a sentence to contemplate every few hundred metres and you'd come up with the key word to finish the sentence as you ran ...
Nah, really wasn't feeling this. I would have turned him off, but I didn't know if that was possible mid-run, without stopping the run altogether. Instead I set off a music playlist under it and put up with him interrupting me.
I ran towards a footbridge over a main road, knowing exactly what I'd see on the other side; the flooded path could indeed have been my finish line as - though I'd been really looking forward to running today - I'd had enough by 2k! However, I ran on and did the full distance, running round the local streets.
Today's lesson? I'm sticking with the notion that I couldn't wait to get started and was REALLY looking forward to running 5k. All in all it was not one to treasure, but I did at least reach the finish line ...

Yeah, I've liked a lot of the Coach B stuff and I want the track to follow to 10k, but these runs have been a bit hit and miss so far ... well, 2 have been "nah" and 4 "yay".
Yes I have it that printed off, but I need an actual plan on my phone, otherwise it will not happen. Same as I needed Laura on C25K, otherwise I would never in a million years have got beyond the first minute or two of running. My overall experience with NRC has been excellent, but until I started this specific programme I ran sometimes with that app, sometimes with music, sometimes an audiobook, sometimes silence. For now I need the guidance and encouragement to get as far as I can towards 10k.
well done for keeping going & crossing that line. I think I’d have stopped at that sight! I’ve just done the last day of week 3 the 6k. I reminded myself to start out slower & kept reminding myself too. I think I’ve learnt to zone out CB & just listen to him when I want to hear him 🤣
I felt good. I’m used to 5k so I’m glad week 4 is lengthier runs/time. Eek for the last run of the week tho!
Sometimes those hard-fought ones are the ones we look back on with the most pride. Well done for toughing it out. I skipped the finish lines run today for a different one instead. You’ve got to be up for a lot of chatter with them. Sometimes that’s helpful and sometimes it’s just really annoying!
