It was SO cold at the park that I take the grandsprocket to for Parkrun.

Much colder than at either of our houses.

Plus? We were late. As in we were running across the field to the start when everyone else set off. Totally my fault as knowing we’re running a bit late, I thought I’d take a quicker route to get there, but turned down the wrong road 🤦‍♀️

Anyway we ran across the start line okay, then he realised everyone was disappearing round the corner and got a bit discouraged. I will admit I gave him a tiny bit of a carry at that point to get him giggling again, and we were off. I’d like to say that we hared off after the pack and caught them really quickly, but actually it took us as far as the wiggly path to catch up to the tail walker. But we did it. And I was SO proud of him, because he is one of those children who easily loses heart.

A couple of the older children who had already finished cheered him on as we started our second uphill (the pesky one near the playground where he often gets distracted), and then as we neared the end the tail walker’s son (I think it was) ran up and asked him if he wanted him to run to the end with him. Which was very kind. As usual he did manage to sprint down the finish funnel though. And we all know that that’s the important bit 😁

Next week we will be volunteering, because last week he asked if HE could marshal 😍

Hopefully it will not be raining 🤞

Oh my goodness what a fabulous thing to do and he seems a tough little grand sprocket and what a good role model you are

He’s tougher than he realises.

Every time he does something he does something out of his comfort zone is a Win that I want to give him a medal for.

Yes it’s great to help them feel a sense of worth and achievement

So good to learn early that moving on is not a test you can fail but a challenge that will be fun to work on. Well done, Sprocket AND Gran! 👏🏼

Excellent way to start a Sunday, and well done getting him to extend his distance a little 🤣. He did amazingly today, and volunteering to marshal is what it’s all about... next he will want you on tailwalk so he can earn a purple shirt at the same time as those wristbands!

I do love our Sunday visits to Junior Parkrun.

I realised when we got home that actually this was his 11th run, so that’s his first wristband earned, I think 🥰

Yep... 11, 21 and 50 I think. There are also certificates he can print out on the club progress section of his profile... the first of which will be available as soon as today’s results are out.

I got an email late last night saying I wasn’t needed as they had tons of volunteers, so I went and did my something else!

The one we go to is often short of volunteers and desperately posting to FB on a Friday 😥

We are often short... but the RD’s are very good at shouting “we need two more marshals or the run will be cancelled” at 8:55 🤣
