Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Event set up (training new person), First Timers and Barcode Scanning today. Just time for a bacon butty and cup of tea before we head off to play a ukulele gig.
We did a local (not) parkrun yesterday to make up for not running today.
It was a beautiful calm and mild morning here, spring is in the air. I was at my local parkrun this morning and ran with my Cocker Spaniel Ruby. I’d celebrated a little last night with my next door neighbour following Irelands victory over France in the first game of this years Six Nations. I was a bit tired this morning so ran and walked my way around even stopping for a while to talk to one of the marshals. Finished in a lovely relaxed time of 37:49. Enjoyed it as always. Happy running everyone.
I went back to touring and visited Canons Park today. A small event (for London's standards) with around 100 runners. Lovely course with some woodland and tarmac paths and very friendly runners and volunteers.
I clocked in around 35mins which is my average and I'm happy with it, given it's been my first proper parkrun for a few weeks.
Hi damienair & other park runners, (not) parkrunners,
I don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to volunteer to pace my first ParkRun in the heat of the Summer.
It was super hard work today & I came in at 30:03. Much harder than expected to hit the finish line at exactly 30mins. I could have made up the 3 secs but I didn’t want to overtake anyone incase they were trying to sub 30. Oh well. I’ll have another go later on in the year after I’ve finished Marathon training.
Hubby got 26:19 & no.2 son came in 3rd at 19:50 so he is back 🔥
W6R1 today at Eastville for me. I remember this particular week as being trickier than expected having done the Big 20 Minutes of W5R3, but it felt good today. Another rather long stop to pick up after Flossie (took forever to get it all 😖), so again my time is academic, whatever it is. Similar to last week I believe.
No results through yet, no doubt due to the sheer number of people still frequenting Eastville! Extra long funnel set up in readiness!
This also doubled up as RED February Day 3. It’s nice to have a focus. 🙏
The results can be submitted quite early but the queueing process through the parkrun system seems to be getting longer with more runners and more events each week.
We ‘only’ had 676 this week Dexy5 The results came through and although it doesn’t bother me due to me doing C25K, my time was definitely very wrong! A differential of 4 minutes between Garmin and PR! Even taking into account me starting near the back and stopping to pick up after Flossie, that’s impossible - plus it had me as the exact same time as someone else, whereas I ran in by myself!
This was the lowest attendance this year tooDexy5 . Close to 900 3 weeks ago. The only time it was over 1,000 was the double in 2018 (or 2019) where Eastville was the later start after Ashton Court. That was sheer madness.
The 20-30 minuters are very bunched up, but the gazelles and snails have no problem with crowding. 🙏
Sometimes it’s worth emailing in just to let them know that there could have been a hitch. They can check the results, and you may not be the only one.
It’s all down to number checking and what happens (if anything!) when timers and the finish tokens get out of step. You’ll probably find your tailwalkers have got different finish times …. hate it if that happens here!
Well done to you CC and Flossie on re running run 1 of week 6 of C25K at Eastville parkrun this morning, I was a marshall at parkrun this morning, so that meant no running, however, after I got off the train on my way home, instead of walking I reran run 1 of week 1 of C25K, all 8/1 minute runs with the 7/90 second walking breaks, I didn't have my running shoes on but after standing for about 45 minutes cheering the runners at parkrun it was nice to have a little running on the way home, yesterday I ran a short 3K run near to where I live.
When I got to the parkrun the RD asked me which part of the course I would like to marshall, I choose the most sheltered part where trees are so I am not standing cheering the runners exposed to the wind feeling too cold, being a inland course there are some parts that are sheltered from the wind.
Yes, and even taking that into account it’s 3 minutes different. The main reason I know something is amiss is that I ran in by myself, yet PR has my time the same as someone else’s. Bit fishy!
Having worked in every job in the funnel, I know mistakes happen and RDs are usually appreciative to know if something has gone wrong. Just send an email to the usual volunteer address to let them know it doesn’t look quite right, not demanding any action. This is just the sort of thing UTS loves to investigate. 🤣
It’s not worth the effort quibbling for yesterday’s PR. Different if I was hoping for a good time, but it’s academic with C25K. It’s the first time it’s happened to me though, so something to look out for, especially with such large numbers attending at the moment. 😀
Indeed OGR, although I’m loving running with her again so I’m happy to run at her preferred pace - and if she stops for a ‘pit stop’ well that’s part of the fun!
Good morning everybody! RED February Day 3 for me and a trip to Yarborough, as it was their 1st birthday and there was cake 🍰 (that year has flown by). It was also a meet up for my running group, although I’m not sure the message got out early enough as there were only about 15 of us. Very mild at 11c, so I just ran in a t-shirt and leggings 😳Thankfully only half the number of runners as the first one last year with 214, but always loads of tourists after their Y. My time was 35.01, which is ok, as I am still having problems with my piriformis and taking it steady under instruction from the physio. Have a good weekend!
ooh for a 15 person parkrun. The highest position I’ve had was 43 at Hanworth Airpark. Our local ones are growing every week. Plenty of cake to eat then.
Hello everyone, we had record attendance at our new paperclip course this morning, and amongst the runners were visitors JonathanP , Mudita11 and SueAppleRun as well as UpTheStanley and Oldgirlruns . Unfortunately JP had gone before I thought to take a photo. Sorry, JP.
Chilly with a west south west wind , and so many people that I had to walk around the 3 turning cones. UTS started at the back and then caught up with me at 1.6 km, and my first 3 k was done in 19:45, but it caught up with me in my 4th k, despite having the wind behind me. I was getting warm and removed my gloves, took off my buff and unzipped my top. I managed to recover in the 5th km and with a sprint finish I got in front of the nearest target. However, UTS then stuck his head in front of me , as if he was in the Olympics so I let him have the earlier finish token.
We couldn’t get into our favourite cafe (everyone has been paid!) so ended up in the greasy spoon next door. It wasn’t busy so at least we were able to talk more easily.
Oh 34:09 parkrun, 33:17 Garmin and 1st in age group . 61.2%.
What a great morning, Mudita11 and I have met up a few times now, lovely to see you again Dexy5 & UpTheStanley great to meet JonathanP and best of all was running alongside Oldgirlruns who I've hoped to meet for years, we both talked as we ran and walked, but maybe I talked the most 😂.
Breakfast was good and very welcome, thank you Mudita11, and I got to go for a drive, I've returned home feeling like I've been on holiday 😁.
Run Happy, parkrunners, not parkrunners and for anyone resting, make the most of it because you'll hopefully soon be back out there.
It was a really lovely morning Dexy5 . The new Southsea course was fun. I was first in my age category too 😃. Breakfast was good but the company was better! Great to see everyone x
Completely out of the blue Sandie. JonathanP decided when lakeside was cancelled again. Then Mudita11 got in touch. SueAppleRun was a complete surprise.
It was strange old weather wasn’t it Dexy, warm, cool, wind in the face then on the back; I expect we’ll get used to it as we do more of our ‘new’ parkrun course! Well done on your sprint finish; he’s just a bit competitive that UTS, isn’t he?!
Good afternoon Damien and everyone else, this morning for the first time at Springburn parkrun and the second time altogether I was a marshall, since completing my 100th parkrun last Autumn I have now concentrated at volunteering, this morning was my 9th volunteering duty, 7 times as a tailwalker, now twice as a marshall, next week I'll be a marshall at Palacerigg Country Parkrun, the parkrun nearest to where I live.
When everyone had completed their parkrun at Springburn this morning I asked the Run Director if I could be the tailwalker there on Saturday 24 February, he looked up his phone and said that post was vacant and so I will be the tailwalker at Springburn parkrun on Saturday 24th February, I havn't forgotten running, I hope to run at Dunfermline parkrun on Saturday 17th February.
It is great fun Oldgirlruns, a lot of the runners thanked me for volunteering, I talked back to them saying '.well done', or 'I hope you are enjoying your run', a few answered back saying they were and a few said they weren't enjoying their run today due to the wind, I was standing on a more sheltered area of the course where the wind was light and the wind was behind them, further down the course where there is no shelter from the wind the runners have to run up a short hill against the wind.
Good afternoon Damien and all. Run Directing today but I’m not feeling well so I’m glad I share it with Katnap as I did my bit during the week organising the volunteers. I also did pre-setup as we were a volunteer down, and am about to token sort! I think I’ll just curl up and go to sleep once that’s done… 😴
Lakeside was cancelled for the 3rd week so yet again I had to look for an alternative parkrun and where else but Southsea - my second home! It was my first time on their new course and given their 492 finishers today, very well managed. Great to meet SueAppleRun and see Mudita11 again, in addition to the Southsea motley crew of course!
As I was still taking it easy due to the annoying piriformis niggle, the timed line up for the start meant about a minute from the official 'go' until I could get over the line - and a finish time of 33.53 (Garmin)/34.56(parkrun). Hopefully back to Lakeside next week🤞
A good morning’s parkrunning today Damien! I knew Jonathan P and Mudita11 were likely to be at our parkrun this morning but I didn’t expect a meet up with SueAppleRun as well! We’d chatted on the forum on previous occasions that our running speeds were probably about the same and so it proved. So we had a really nice parkrun, jogging along and chatting as we went, plus I managed to get in W5R2 in my latest round of C25K! It wasn’t fast at 54:36 (Garmin time 52:43!). A coffee afterwards and more chatting before we went our separate ways. I hope everyone got home in timely fashion - it was lovely seeing you all!
Woohoo OGR, nice to have a good old chat! I’m loving revisiting C25K, are you? I’m doing RED February, so I’m wondering if I should do each run twice, otherwise I’ll be through it in less than 2 weeks! 😅
Yes, I’m enjoying my C24K ‘revisit’ , especially now the runs are getting longer, I’m not so keen on the stop-start runs! I’m very impressed with your RED Feb, how very energetic of you, at this rate you’ll definitely be finishing quickly!
It was great to meet you 😄 and good to run and chat, I'll definitely come back again, I got home, realised after not much sleep last night I was shattered and went to sleep for ,,4 hours, but been for a dog walk with daughter and nearly ready for more sleep.
So first parkrun of the month, (happy February) therefore pacer week. The range went from 20s to 35, then 45.
*I hadn’t run in the week, I noticed I put on a kilo so I was parkrunning for pure fun. There was a chap dressed as singer Prince, all in purple & complete with guitar, ruffled shirt & bouffant hair. He was running in aid of a Prostate cancer charity, he got a huge cheer.
The run starts I get caught up in the energy I see the blue pacer 28 min bib. I know I can’t keep with him I’m a sub 33 min runner currently but I did first lap I was still with him, but then he disappeared running up the grassy hill, (as almost everyone) I just haven’t got a good technique to get up hills.
But I keep running & to my surprise I achieve another PB 32.13mins. Don’t know how long this run (pardon the pun) will last but I’m going to enjoy it while it does! Thanks to pacer guy helping me along.
My parkrun PB was 2 years after c25k graduation , I think that 2nd year was so good. Mind you I was a young 61 then. I now look at the age grade percentage and my highest so far was November last year, so I’m doing alright .
