Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Well done to you RunWillie for running 10K yesterday with your husband at tempo pace and congratulations to son No. 2 for that sub 26 minute 5k with that younger runner in 25:31, 🏃🏾✔️✔️👍
No parkrun here 😪 The last one near me has just cancelled due to the ice, although I am not surprised. I think juniors will probably cancel tomorrow as well
No parkrun for me either Sue and Damien, two parkruns that I go to were called off because of rain falling on ice, black ice, instead I ran a short 3K around the park near to where I live, there was no ice there.
We went for a walk on grass and tarmac paths and it confirmed the decisions to cancel were correct, although it is starting to melt now.To add to our disappointment we couldn't get a table in our usual place so we went for brunch to a cafe that has changed hands recently and it was not as nice as it used to be. The tea was a bit odd and very weak and my low carb breakfast (with a side of toast) was not so great.
Hello one and all!! We ran Albert Park today both feeling good. Windy with a few spots of rain but a nice way to finish Parkrun 49 for me. Looking forward to 50 next week 🙌
None for me today. My "home" one (which I'm nowhere near at the moment) was cancelled due to ice, and Hafan Pwllheli was cancelled due to high winds (the leading edge of Storm Isha).
Not that I could have gone to either. It's taking two of us (my sister and I) to cope with my parents at the moment.
Oh that's tough. I hope things improve soon and your covid recovery hasn't deprived you of energy too much. Hope you are looking after yourselves too when you get the chance.
I'm starting to squeeze runs in during the late evening. I recently got a powerful head torch which is making it a lot easier to run the Welsh back lanes at 11pm.
Hello Damienair and all, UpTheStanley and I were going to meet JonathanP at Portsmouth Lakeside today, but following a recce during the week where the path was closed to the public, we changed to run at Portsmouth’s 3rd and newest parkrun, Great Salterns. A good move as Lakeside was indeed cancelled., It was their 2nd birthday so the purple tutu came out again.
Due to faffing we got there later than planned but met JP before the briefing , but didn’t do as much warm up as required on a cold morning. 5C but a cold wind.
It’s a 3 lap trail and I managed to start well while chatting to someone at least 35 years younger, but I sent her on her way after the 1.5 km. I had a bit of calf ache (problem due to lack of warm up and experimenting with different insoles during the week, so had to take some walking breaks. I was lapped by the front runner after 2km but I was pleased to lap the tailwalker in the final leg.
36:50 on that challenging course turned out to be a PB and I was the 1st and only one in my age group - so very happy. A small birthday cake in the cricket hut and then off to Costa where we met JP for our first get together in ages.
It was also lovely to be somewhere different so that UTS could relax and enjoy his run and leave Southsea RDs to organise themselves for the first time since October when we moved.
Lovely photo of you and UTS, good run for you Dexy at Great Salterns parkrun, I am about the same when being lapped, usually about the same place, around 2.5k into the run I am lapped by the first runner and at that same bit I have often seen the tailwalker when I lap him/her, stormy weather is forecast for the next few days, especially at the coast.
There is a video on the Facebook site. It looks like we run in the countryside, instead of a city. I’m the only one in a purple tutu, which got lots of comments from dog walkers.
That's a brilliant time Dexy5 and huge congratulations from us. Well done to UpTheStanley too for being able to enjoy a well-earned day off. Sat 3rd Feb is Accrington v Grimsby. I'll be there 😄
Hi Mudita11 , it’s a course that does get both muddy and puddly, but we timed well. it was quite firm yesterday because of the cold weather. Trails shoes still needed though. We last did it in May 2022 when it looked beautiful with spring flowers. Do let us know when you plan to go.
Hi all Parkrunners, walkers and all. No parkrun for me and not for a while yet either. I've been following nurses orders from the eye clinic and running as slow as possible with no bouncing around. Both Lancing and Worthing parkruns would leave me trailing behind even the walkers so I won't be doing that for a while until I've built my fitness up again, I'll concentrate on endurance and time for now, I can soon add in faster intervals but so far am enjoying keeping my heartrate low and running without getting breathless, 😁
A little bit slower than last week but that’s okay. I finished in a nice relaxed time of 36:40, just 13 seconds slower than last weekend. Again I was joined by my lovely friend and daughter, Ruby the Cocker Spaniel. I didn’t run during the week as I was nervous of slipping on icy paths. It’s not as cold now but stormy, I’ll get out running again this week. Happy weekend everyone.
Isn’t it the best thing ever running with our furry friends damienair ? Redoing C25K has made me realise how much I’ve missed running with Flossie at PR. You have many more happy years to run with Ruby. Aren’t they the best friends ever? ❤️
I absolutely adore her. She follows me everywhere and around the house. She loves gardening with me too. I’m lucky as she has been really well socialised and is great off the lead. She is relaxing and sleeping on the couch now. They really are amazing company.
Hi PR friends. W3R2 at Eastville for Flossie and I today. My cough has gone ( 🎉) and I could easily ditch C25K, but know what? I don’t want to! I’m loving it and will see it out, plus it means I can still run with my sweet girl. 🥰🐕
Another bonus of run/walking today was the fact that it was the hideous B course due to ice round the lake. Jenny came along too and we had a nice coffee afterwards.
Then home to get freshened up before meeting an old friend for (yet another) birthday treat at the lovely Ivy in Bristol. Being 60 has afforded me lots of those this week! That’s probably it now, I can’t milk it any longer! 😅
Well Happy Birthday. A year’s celebration 🥳 is OK. Well done on your parkrun, especially the B course. I’m turning the big 50 in May. Busy losing weight now in preparation for the celebrations. 😁 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thanks Al, I do love running with Flossie, but once the runs get a bit longer I’ll need to leave her at home again, for PR anyway. She’ll be 12 next month and she’s much prefer to do her own thing off the lead. 🥰
The great thing about big birthdays is the celebrations go on all year. You’ll always be younger than me though. Great to see Jenny was back today too.
Hello parkrunners! No parkrun for me this week as Mr S and I are paying a visit to our house in France (maintenance trip ☹️). I did a 5k yesterday with my French running group. -2c but a lovely sunny day after constant rain since we arrived on Tuesday and a longer run tomorrow (forecast -5 at 9.00am 🥶) We planned to walk round the lake this afternoon, but it was an absolute quagmire, so cut it short. Gorgeous sunsets though!
Just over 8k this morning with the Eymet Runners. Part road, part muddy frozen field, a little chilly! Nice to catch up with my running family over here 😃
Dexy5 , UpTheStanley and I had agreed to get together this week after a long break- no excuse really as we live in the same city. As Lakeside was even more waterlogged than last week, it had to be nearby Great Salterns which happened to be celebrating its 2nd birthday and it was our 2nd visit.
Unfortunately I was restricted to walking - during last week's somewhat chaotic parkrun at Lakeside, a walker stepped out in front of me as I was heading for the finish tunnel and I had to come to a sudden halt. There didn't seem to be any harm done but when I went out for a run on Monday, it became clear that there was.😞 I eventually pinpointed it to a piriformis issue, which I also had a few years back. Some stretching and gentle walks had improved things over the week, but too soon to restart running.
Still it was a very pleasant walk over a surprisingly rural landscape for a highly populated city and great to catch up with aforementioned running buddies over a coffee afterwards.😀
Really bad luck JP ; just as you were getting back into gear. Happy ending to your run/walk today, in impeccable company 🙂.
No running since last Saturday for me! Snow and ice and then two days lost sorting out recalcitrant central heating system! Should be good to go on Monday….probably a “Haven’t got a clue how far to run run”. There must be one on NRC!
I can only imagine your frustration after last weekend Jonathan. But you’re such a good sensible runner that I have no doubt you’ll be back fighting fit again!
Nice to venture elsewhere, and you had the best buddies to join you. 😀
First outside run for me this week as it's been so slippy round us and I don't want another hip replacement! Several parkruns locally were cancelled because of ice so there were over 800 at Trentham. It was raining when we arrived but cleared before the start. Into a cold headwind to begin and as usual I started off too fast so ended up walking up the hills and running down them. Nowhere near my PB but Kate, my PR buddy and I came in on exactly the same time so happy with that. Will be my 25th PR next week 🤞.
Very well done on your parkrun and I was the same last week, I didn’t want another rib injury from slipping on ice. Enjoy your 25th parkrun next weekend.
Good evening Damien and all! Super late this week, sorry. Was a bit of a full on day yesterday and we’ve had the Winter Series 10k today.
Katnap , Shake-and-run and I were going to Edgbaston Reservoir prior to going to the National Running Show, but just as we got there someone shouted out that it was cancelled, so we dashed back to the car and headed for Canon Hill. Katnap and I have done this one before so I wasn’t too thrilled but it’s a nice park and a new one for Shakes.
I’ve been suffering from a dodgy Achilles and sore knees since the middle of the week so chose to walk. We were also booked to do a shakeout run with the other Fordy runners at the NEC later and today’s Winter Series so I thought best to take it easy. Shakes and I had a lovely chat anyway going round and we got good times with 46-47 mins between us (but twice as long as Katnap!). Massive attendance at over 900, probably a combination of the running show and cancellations.
I have since discovered why my Achilles and knees had gone horrible - I’ve been running in my Ghost 14s, one pair fairly unused and another definitely usable. I’d also been walking in an older pair. I switched shoes for the shakeout run at the NEC and they both suddenly felt better. Not completely better as they had been traumatised but definitely good enough to run. Such a massive relief but the Ghosts are going to the Jog On recycling bin in the sky. Never again for that 12mm drop, it’s obviously too much for me. The worst thing is I had to stop my RED 5k/day because of it. It’s a constant learning curve this running lark.
Have a great week everyone, I’m off to find some everyday shoes. Glad it’s payday this week 😍
Well done on your parkrun and hope you enjoyed the running show. I changed runners once from Brooks GTS to Mizuno and I hated them. It was awful, I had pins and needles after just 400 meters. So lesson learned, only Brooks GTS shoes for me.
The Running Show was great Damien, I bumped into loads of people I know (including my London Marathon hotel buddy who I Iast saw disappearing over the horizon as I realised I’d never run with her before and she was much quicker than me 😅) and met loads of my running club, and I spent too much!
Not sure what my next shoe will be, they keep changing the ones I like. Still, it’ll be fun searching.
