Did a run tonight that I "couldn't see far enough" as they say in South Lanarkshire. I didn't think I could do it as work, + -°6 temps, + train commute + walk from the station, had left me very fatigued. Made myself a promise that I'd get into my running gear as soon as I'd put my bags down. Anywho, to my astonishment the tiredness just disappeared 🤔 Not deluding myself it wasn't the Easy Run with Coach Jess that it was meant to be, no matter how I reigned in my pace, and it was very slow. However it was still fun, running around in the dark, laughing away the cares of the day. Someone recently offered me the advice - not to forget the benefits of walking, bless him. Now I've got the running bug that sounds a bit like not forgetting the benefits of brushing your teeth. Both are necessary and undoubtedly good for you, but only running gives me that buzz and the thrill and the chance to shout in my inner voice "I'm 61 and I'm running"....."I'm 61 and I'm walking and brushing my teeth" just doesn't have the same ring to it 😂

Is running is better than walking?
running definitely gives a buzz - mainly after it’s finished for me 🤣 I do love walking though too but it’s got a different place in my life 👍🏽
🍏🤣Absolutely right at 61/71 our running is the “joie de vivre”. You cannot begin to compare the happy hormones after a good run, with a walk. It’s that feeling of being alive, the body in a rhythmic movement that defies aging.. the wonder of being in flight mode.. the afterglow when it’s over! Yes!
However getting out in the fresh air for a walk where you can enjoy your surroundings brings its own more gentle buzz!
So poetic Annieapple 😁 Don't get me wrong folks I love a yomp in parks, in country, along the beach is one my all time favourite things to do ever..its the gentler of the two and both let you know you're alive so I'll concede both should be valued probably equally.🏃🏼♀️💜🚶♀️💙👨🦽❤️ getting out and active fast or slow is the important bit. 🤔
Well done on getting out there! I too often run after work - and have that same inner conversation about tiredness! Despite this, I always find I enjoy the run just as much and feel more energised on return. I also prefer running in the cold to the heat of summer!🙂
There's something releasing about running after work, the work stuff of the day gets left behind and the grin appears. Walking is really good too but takes longer to wash the day away.
So true. Pounding the pavement just seems to make it all seem very insignificant. It's like a form of mindfulness that bats away the niggles and tribulations of working. It's actually supporting my work related mental wellbeing quite significantly.
just love this. Yes I think you get even more if a buzz when you are running as an over 60. I certainly never thought it possible and love that running is now a part of my life. (I’m now 66). Long may it last.
