Are you lacing your running shoes too tightly?

Well I have been. So, let's take this back a few weeks. I was out on a longer run and it felt like I had a stone in my shoe. It was really irritating, right in the ball of my foot. So I decided I really had to stop and investigate. Shoe off, turn it over, shake it, no nothing there. Sock off, have a good feel, brush my foot over, no nothing there. So sock back on, shoe relaced and off I go. Still a bit of discomfort but soon it eases. Get back and think well it's one of those things. Another run... the same thing, the same palaver and then it eases and I forget about it. But soon enough, it becomes more regular, in the same place, in the same foot, only now I'm also noticing some wider discomfort when I've finished running. There may be something going on here. Google search refers me to an NHS page, where I quickly discover this is a problem common with runners. Feels like a stone on the ball of your foot, well it's actually a trapped nerve between the metatarsals. Treatment much the same as plantar fasciatus which I've had before in pre running days. At last, I know what to do. I know the exercises, I have the massage balls and shoe inserts, but more importantly I'm not tieing my laces so tightly and now I'm running comfortably once more. This morning's super cold run was glorious as the sun was rising. Great to do some intervals and get some speed going to warm up. Happy running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ πŸ˜€

That sounds both annoying and painful. Running really teaches you anatomy, all the different bits of your lower limbs that will hurt if you don't treat them with kid gloves lol.

If I don't tie my laces tight, including the two odd little lace holes at the top that are never threaded when you buy your shoes, my ankles don't feel like they're supported. I'll make sure the bits around my toes stay loose in the light of your bad experiences :)

I have hypermobility and the bones in my left foot didn't "set" fully. If I don't manipulate them into the correct position before I put my running socks on I definitely know about it later.

That sounds infuriating. At least my problem is only temporary. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
