Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend

Hello again from New Zealand 🇳🇿 I had been looking forward to today for months, with the chance to meet up with lexi6 for the first time since we did parkrun in Boston (Lincolnshire UK) back in September 2019. She picked me up from our campsite at 7.20am, so that Mr S could have a leisurely start and we went to Kapiti Coast parkrun. A lovely out and back course on a gravel trail, alongside a river and through woodland. After a really wet and windy day yesterday, the weather was perfect - sunny intervals, no wind and around 14c 😊 Another 35 min run, but I did keep stopping to take photos. Then it was off to Paraparaumu for brekkie (eggs Benedict for me and veggie omelette for Lexi) and a really good natter before she dropped me back at the campsite. And a K for my parkrun alphabet. Perfect 😍
Over too soon, but a special morning. I had to dash through the shower in ultra quick time because I only got back to site 15 minutes before latest checkout 😂😂
Loved our parkrun meetup Sandie and natter over what was such a yummy brekkie, I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day! so happy to have met up with you again. I really hope we get to do another one together, somewhere in the UK 🤞 Enjoy the rest of your holiday 🥰
Morning friends. 👋 I ran in 2 countries today (to add to the international flavour). England and Wales!
Jenny and I picked Severn Bridge even though the forecast was less than appealing with wind and rain. Balmy though, at 14 degrees!
Felt good today. SW wind meant it was a cross/tail wind on the way up, mostly headwind (always happens) on the way down. Great fun and even though our times weren’t anything to write home about (around 38 me, around 31 Jen), we loved it.
I’ll be in Scotland for PR next weekend. Another country for my collection! 😅
Very well done Cheeky to you and Jenny. And have a fabulous weekend in Scotland next weekend. This pic was from a recent trip to Scotland 🏴 back in early October.
Oh wow that looks lovely damienair . Yes please, I’ll take that weather! We’re bookending a few days in Northern Ireland with a couple of stays in Scotland, so our chances of good weather in November are limited. Never mind!
I thought that too Jonathan, but we won’t be there on a Saturday this time round! Pretty sad of me to immediately look up the closest one to our ferry in Scotland though, even before picking a hotel! 😅
No, the wind didn’t cooperate today Sue. It’s way better to get the harder work over and done with and have a headwind up the bridge, but today we didn’t reap the rewards and had to deal with it on the lovely downhill return. Never mind, it was character building! 😅
Thanks Dexy5 . We’re packed and ready. Flossie knows something’s up. Whenever she sees the cases come out, she knows there’s a road trip ahead for her! 🥰
On this drizzly morning, I went back to Clapham Common with my mate. The course was very muddy and slippery and I slipped many times.
I was gunning for a PB, but thanks to the muddy course and some tech problems at the start (issues with phone/watch), it was not meant to be. I think that despite this, I still managed a faster time than last week’s run.
Good morning everyone. Happy parkrun day. I felt good enough today to attempt a run/walk at my local parkrun. The cold is thankfully finally leaving me. Although I still have a cough. I brought Ruby along and just after the start I ended up running along beside a Lady and we got chatting. And we stayed together and chatted all the way around. We took a few walking breaks and finished in a time of 39:01. Nice to be back running a bit again and it was lovely to have company.
Not surprisingly it was puddles a go go at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning - no alternative but to run straight through them! For the same reason our finish was moved which meant a U-turn 50m from the end - made the final sprint interesting. Building up my stamina again and was pleased to improve my time to 33.50.
Also had a grocery collection for the local food bank - not the best morning for it but a good amount donated.👍
Thanks BC - hope the programme's going well? I've started the Zoe strength training one I sent you the link to. It's certainly identified where my 'weak' areas are - could be a long job!
I am building up distance again very slowly; maybe 8k on Monday. Otherwise I think that intervals are what I need; I also need to build stamina. For exercises, I am still doing my physio prescribed rehab stretches and exercise band work. I have found that doing squats has made it much easier to hold the air hose over the tyre nozzle and look at the reading at the same time when using the pump at the local garage! It’s a very awkward height….and I really don’t want to kneel in the muck!
I have built up to squats with a medium band….probably far enough! I can improve strength reasonably quickly …..but it drops off equally quickly if I stop doing the exercises…..getting (or maybe I am) old! 🙂
Running through puddles is the best Jonathan! I’d rather have soaking wet feet than mildly moist ones. 😀 Your running is building back beautifully. I’m so happy for you! 👏👏
Good afternoon Damien, it was touch or go that I got to parkrun this morning, it was raining while I was waiting for the bus, the bus was more than 10 minutes late, I felt miserable and cold, however, the rain went off just as the bus came and got to Drumpellier Parkrun with 5 minutes to spare.I still felt a bit cold while running, perhaps that had a effect on my slowest time at Drumpellier, this morning it was 34:03, well down on my PB there of 30:09 a few years ago, I "think" I could have ran faster if I had got there about 5 minutes earlier because looking at the results the runner I paced at my first 10K race was there and her time was around 32 minutes, but I didn't see her, I am now nice and warm back home, enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Thanks Dexy, when I got home I ate my usual ice cream chocolate swirl, half an hour later I had a big bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup and a mug of Hot Chocolate with a large ham sandwich, I certainly didn't feel cold after that lot. ✔️😋
Well it was wet and it was windy and I decided I wasn’t going to run today. . I wasn’t even going to go , but as UpTheStanley was going to help out, I got my wet weather gear on and volunteered as parkwalker to keep the other one company.. We were walking as fast as we could but the only 2 walkers went well ahead after the first 3k. Then the tailwalkers decided that they were going to pass us which meant the final cone marshal picked up his cone to leave until we called him 😂. We were at the finish in 50 minutes so didn’t hold people up too long. Well done to all volunteers who got out in that rain today to let people run. 💦☔️💧💦💧
The tailwalker should never pass another walker or runner, the tailwalker should always be last, I have now been the tailwalker 7 times and always last, I usually walk with the same person but if he/she decides to run then the person who was second last becomes last and I walk with him, on one occasion when I was the tailwalker there were several changes on who was the last runner or walker but for the most part it's usually the same person.
I know AlMorr but I don’t blame them wanting to get back out of that wind and rain as soon as they could. They didn’t go in front of the participants, just us volunteers. I phoned UTS to let the timekeepers know the tailwalkers were in front . We should have just swapped vests 😂
Good evening Damien and all, sorry, I’m even more late to the party than usual at the moment!
It was my mum’s funeral on Tuesday, and added to that I’m still recovering from my wisdom tooth removal. So, as you can probably imagine, everything is a bit challenging at the moment (and I’ve just realised I’ve not replied to the Pom Pom post 😩). I’m hoping that things are going to be on the up now as I really miss being able to just tie up my trainers and go for a plod.
No pre-parkrun volunteering, so I could have a lie in. The weather was dreary but not cold. I’m definitely not 100% but Katnap and I ran in together. It was a good test to see how I felt and it was a definite improvement on last Saturday.
Just over 300 of us ran today. I managed to be in the top half of the ladies which I’m more than happy with. Just over 30 minutes again, about 30 seconds quicker than last week. Didn’t take quite as much out of me as last week as I wanted to take it easier because it’s the sausage run tomorrow, so I probably could have done sub 30 otherwise which is positive.
Home with the tokens to sort, via a bit of easy to eat breakfast and a coffee with Katnap and Shake-and-run . My latest challenge is to reach 200 volunteering roles (as opposed to volunteering credits) to match my 150 parkruns in two weeks time ☺️
It’s been a tough time but next week will be better. It’s going to get easier.
I have to say it’s not been the best Sandie but it happens like that doesn’t it? I may have to mash those sausages tomorrow but they will be eaten!! Onwards and upwards (& downwards as well but just for tomorrow 😉)
I di Park Run to day at Tooting again. Not a great time (it never its for me). If conditions don't change much for next week, I might need to improve my front crawl....😉
Back to Pwllheli this morning. My 22nd visit, and parkrun number 86 for me.
It was unexpectedly mild at the start. There were 24 of us, not counting volunteers.
The tide was half way in and rising. The sand was mostly firm, except for a stretch of shingle. At the start the sea was as flat as a pond.
I ran continuously to the turnaround point, but stopped there for a minute to take photos of the surf being driven by the wind. It was forming foam at the water's edge.
Then I started back. The tailwind we had on the outward leg became a headwind on the return.
It rained. Not soft rain, but needle-like tiny icy droplets which stung a bit. I regretted forgetting to bring my peaked cap. My glasses became hard to see through.
It was much harder on the return leg. I had to walk a few times, including to wipe my glasses.
The photo was taken at the end.
My time wasn't great: 33:28, but a minute of that was photography.
Two parkrun volunteers sit on a crate on a beach, watching the runners approach.
I found it a struggle this week. Everything ached probably because it was so damp. This week my running buddy alternately went in front and behind and ended up coming in just in front of me. Both did our average times and at least we got round. Off on hols for 2 weeks next Saturday but taking my running gear with me.
Did my 5k along a very wet and windy cliff and didn’t see another soul 🤣. Would love to do an actual park run but our local park where it takes place has no loos so it’s not for me😞. However I’m there in spirit
