Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend

I got a head cold during the week which is still hanging around and slow to move off me. So I decided to walk at parkrun today. It was raining heavily up until about 15 mins before the start, but the parkrun weather fairies 🧚♀️ made sure that it was dry for the parkrun. I finished in a time of 45:24 and in 74th position. Happy parkrun day everyone.
That’s a good, speedy walk Damien - 5 minutes quicker than mine! And you got it dry, how did you do that???! Hope your cold clears up in time for next week 🤞
45:24 is a very good time for walking at parkrun Damien, I hope your head cold will be completly gone by next week
After the excitement of last Saturday's 100th parkrun for me, this morning I decided not to go to my 101st parkrun and instead ran what we call a short maintenance run, it was 3K around the park near to where I live, my time was a little over 22 minutes, by the way yesterday I received my 100 black T Shirt, I also ordered a black 100 wristband, I am waiting for that to be delivered, hopefully it will come by next Saturday when I will wear the T Shirt at Springburn parkrun where I am the tailwalker,
PS I have just noticed a regular parkrunner at Springburn parkrun who just recently celebrated his 80th birthday ran in a time of 23:19, his age grading was an amazing 90,14%, wow.
This morning I was going to walk at the same place that I ran run 3 of week 5 of C25K but didn't get there as the bus routes were changed so I went another walk, next Monday I'll go by train, however, when I got home the postman had delivered my black 100 wristband, I will wear my 100 T Shirt and that 100 wristband this Saturday at Springburn parkrun where I will be the tailwalker, by the way I am booked for the first time to be a marshall at a parkrun on Saturday 2nd December, am I correct in saying that you don't need a barcode when you are a marshall?
Great. Marshall is a nice volunteer role. No you don't need your barcode, but perhaps bring it just in case. However most important for Marshall role is to bring a phone with you. That is for hopefully a very unlikely event that someone were to get very ill or an emergency on the course. Marshalls are supplied with emergency contact numbers on a lanyard just in case.
Similar to you I had some cold thing was blowing my nose during the run/jog. The course was so soggy with rain, one chap slipped onto his bottom everyone swarmed round with “are u ok’s” and he was like “yeah I’m fine cool” and sped off. I nearly slipped going up the grassy hill. It was all kinds of crazy today.
Got my pacing wrong, tried to follow the 34 minute pacer, she left me dust half through the first lap. I got overtaken by people power walking. So I got a time of 37.17 but given how I felt when I woke up I’m just pleased to have got round.
Morning Super Damien and everyone on here 😀 Tasha and I ran at beautiful South Shields this morning. It's in our top five favourite locations so far. It's a mix of path, grass, trail and pavement. You hug the beautiful coastline on a gentle climb along the cliffs as you go out and the last mile home is the finish to the GNR. An absolute belter 😄
That's on our list, maybe next year.As we went a long way south to tick off NORTH Sydney we fancy going North to tick off our SOUTH. We also have an Eastern WEST in mind, need to find a Western EAST for our compass. 😀
Let me know if you decide to come to Eastville RunaroundSue ! It’s a nice course and very pretty, including a few ups and downs to keep it interesting!
Well done to you and Tasha on running at South Shields this morning, so the last mile is exactly the same as at The Great North Run, do they close the road every Saturday or do the runners run along the side of the road on the pavement?
We run along the right hand side of the pavement AlMorr for the last mile. Cyclists on the left side and runners on the right. The road is open. It all looked so different without the crowds. South Shields seems such a lovely place too.
Yet another solo run for me today, and boy it was the closest I’ve come to not leaving the house. 💦💨
But ….. Mr Cheeky is in the midst of a 24 hour ergometer (rowing machine) challenge which he started at 7pm yesterday evening, ending 7pm tonight. It’s to raise money for a great new venture run by his rowing club, and he committed to rowing 3 million metres in 300 days. The 24 hour challenge brings him home! So HOW could I loll around at home? Couldn’t, so went to Ashton Court as penance!
Trotted up slowly, trotted down less slowly, and felt great for doing so. And the sun came out. Happy I went, and I walked Flossie up the hill after. 🙏
He’s a great inspiration Cheeky, but he’s got good sense doing it in the dry. Our rowers were really battling against the current today. Keep going Mr Cheeky!!! 💪
He’s doing surprisingly well TC. I’m off to the club a bit later for my stint alongside him! I’m not sure they’re allowing anyone on the water at the moment - the current here is vicious too. 😳
visiting family so dragged my nephews out to the local Parkrun in Jubilee park, Spennymoor. Beautiful autumn colours and very friendly natives. A couple of sneaky hills that you do 4 times make it more challenging than it first appears. One of the boys finished 8th so was very chuffed. I was just happy to get round. Well done to all that got out today .
We liked Jubilee, but the hills were a surprise. After the first one I decided I was there to enjoy a parkrun, not bothered about my time and walked some of the ups
Good afternoon Damien and all. Had a bit of time off from here as there has just been too much going on, so it’s good to be back.
Very, very wet at Stratford today. I hedged my bets as I had a wisdom tooth taken out yesterday so didn’t know what state I’d be in. I signed up to do course check as I thought that would be fairly easy. The river was up in places but it wasn’t bad enough to cancel luckily. As it was there were only 190 of us, which is really low for Stratford.
As I was already wet I decided to parkwalk. I’m not allowed to run until tomorrow so at least I could get my steps in. Of course it rained heavily until just before I reached the funnel when it started to brighten up 😅 A very wet Katnap had finished his run ages back but waited for me like a trooper. Back to home and some (more) soup.
Hopefully next week it will be back to running it. The tooth removal has been fine but there is a bit of thread from the stitches at the back that I keep thinking is a bit of food and it’s really annoying!!
You are a hero TC. I’m surprised by the low numbers but it sounds like the weather was awful. See you later in the week for a bit of a trot round. Maybe it will have dried up a bit by then.
Thanks BC, it’s getting a bit annoying now I have to say! It did take quite a bit of space up at the back - it was at 90º so was completely useless as a tooth!
Hope you are feeling much better now TC. It was lovely to do a parkwalk instead. My niggling cold has still not lifted off me. I have headaches with it as well. I was convinced I had COVID but all tests have been negative. I'll get out for another walk this evening.
Oh that’s horrid Damien, I hope it goes very soon, it does sound COVID like though. It’s going to take a while for mine but as long as I don’t run out of painkillers I’ll be fine.
hello everyone, as you know Southsea parkrun is on the promenade. Well, this is a picture of the stone edging lifted by strong tides on Wednesday night. 17 slabs had shifted, shingle , seaweed and shellfish were strewn on the promenade, cycle path and road.
Given this and the threat of gales and torrential rain at 9.00 this morning, it was decided to take an early decision to cancel our parkrun on Thursday. Other coastal parkruns were doing te same at 8.00 this morning.
To be fair, the City Council contractors did an amazing job at clearing the road and prom yesterday but while I was lying in bed at 9.00 this morning, listening to wind and rain, I was so glad it was cancelled for the sake of the volunteers.
It's amazing what the power of nature can do, 17 big slabs lifted from the prom wall, certainly a wise decision to cancel Southsea park run, the photo reminds of January 3rd 2012 when there was a red wind warning for the area I live in, lots of trees were blown down, a week later I took a walk along the prom at Helensburgh on the west coast of Scotland and just like the prom at Southsea there were slabs, seaweed, shingle and a lot of shops nearby were flooded, not by rain but by seawater in the force 11 wind at high tide coming over the prom, a road and into the shops, it took weeks for the prom to be cleared and months to the damaged shops, it's a very nice place to walk, that's why I chose the prom at Helensburgh to run my graduation run 6 years after that storm.
Yes, high tides and storms make a powerful mixAlMorr . Thankfully we got downgraded to yellow warning, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. Hopefully a sunny day tomorrow. 🌞
I hope it is a nice day tomorrow Dexy5 I intend to go a 16K walk on a trail run course not too far from where I live, the first 4K and the last 4K are on pavements, the trail part starts at 4K the start is up a not too steep hill but just before 5K it is very steep 30% gradient, could be more, for the next 7K is downhill, then uphill then downhill to rejoin the road at 4K back home.
It was 35 degrees today which feels too hot for November. It was hard work getting sub 30 but I kept reminding myself if I want to be a long distance runner “I can do hard things”
Great time RW…and in that heat! I guess that you are all hydration experts in Perth. I can lose two pounds in a run here …and I wouldn’t try to run in over 28 degrees. Amazing 🙂
I had to be at Brisbane Airport at 9.30 yesterday so decided I didn’t have time to do South Brisbane parkrun, then, checking out the various parkruns around the city to while away the time waiting for our flight to Cairns, I noticed it was actually a 7.00 start, so I could have done it after all. Drat 😫
Muddiest Marple for quite some time, happy to stay upright although I almost '"skied" into another runner on one slope. Luckily he laughed as he realised I was not trying to push past him deliberately 😀
We did Finish area Set Up which had to divert from some very slippery puddles to cross some long grass (to avoid running into the bonfire being built by the scouts). Luckily by the time I got to that point all the faster runners had flattened the grass.
Trying to dry out my trail shoes as I am back there tomorrow as Junior Tailwalker and I don't suppose it will be any better, although their course is not quite as muddy as big parkrun.
Mud seemed to be the order of the day. We were lucky at Jubilee as it is mostly path but the grass downhill slope was rather soggy and got worse with each of the 4 laps. I took it steady and remained upright and my gortex shoes kept my feet dry.
Oh yes! The across the grass bit at Stratford I nearly came a cropper on. My walking boots aren’t that grippy. I can only imagine the mud and quagmire conditions at Marple Sue 😳
A lovely Tailwalk. 20 minutes with a five year old who enjoyed jumping over the little cones and molehills and running away from me if I fell behind talking to marshals.
Worthing was where I was going to run but that was cancelled yesterday, granddaughter was meeting a new lad at lancing Parkrun this morning and that was cancelled at 8am, just too windy with squally showers, downpours, went shopping instead and now home, warm and dry. Well done everyone who got out there this morning, I'm hopeful for next week
Hi Damien. A dry morning here oop north with a temperature around 10 degrees. My third 5k recovery run between physio sessions. 34.6 time is a minor improvement on last week, but I have been told to take it steady. Just a nice 10 degrees; a two shirt run followed by my usual cafe stop. Exercises this afternoon!! All steps in the right direction.
🙂 Everything is in perspective for now cheeky. At Thursday’s physio session I reflected on the all of the weeks of running I had lost since 12 June; 5 weeks and 5 days. Focus now is fitness and flexibility and the HM plan can wait. I just tried to do too much too quickly. Exercises now👍
Of course 🙂. I am doing hamstring stretches from a seated position with legs straight out in front. After 8 days of trying I have landed a finger on the toes of each foot! An improvement on mid calf!
I had a commitment this morning so did a (not) parkrun yesterday - judging by the puddly conditions at Lakeside today, not a great loss! Still jeffing (1k run followed by a minute walking) but slowly building up stamina and muscles, helped by a short climb towards the end - 34.25😀
Lots of mud and puddles at Southampton today but the sun shone during the run woohoo! With lots of local parkruns cancelled it was fairly busy with 826 runners. Managed to avoid slipping on all the fallen soggy leaves so even though I was slow I was just very happy to have got another run under my belt! Fingers crossed that next week will be dry.
Dry next week would be good, my granddaughter ran anyway and managed it in 42 minutes, she ran with a new friend who apparently kept saying keep running 🤣
Did my first parkrun….a little un expectedly! I hadn’t planned to, and hadn’t run for 3 weeks for various reasons, not quite sure what I was thinking! But was visiting a friend in Andover and we decided to brave the rain and full on mud fest! I’m actually glad I ran although disappointed with time, but if I hadn’t gone with my friend I’m not sure I’d have ever braved a parkrun! 42.52 or something, but hard going in places, quite boggy!
Congratulations and very well done to you on your first parkrun. Amazing. Don't worry about your finish time as conditions were awful. On the bright side it leaves you with a nice easy PB the next time. 😀
It was a typical Saturday morning mental struggle for me. I set my alarm for 7.30, but I was awake at 5. Drats. I noted that the weather was not too bad and then dozed. Suddenly it was 8 am and I was still warm and cosy in bed. Other half sound asleep. But I said to myself, 'It's not raining outside, I really should get up and go'. 8.20 am. Double drats! Now I've left it too late for parkrun today. What a lazy bones I am! Wait. Is it too late? Nearest parkrun is only 2 km away....I could bike it fast......radio announcer said 8.22 am..... I pressed the GO!!!!! button. Kit on, water, warm ups, more water, finished warm ups, cycled like a fury, made it in time for the pre-run talk and ran a PB for that course this year. Yay! Final score: Me 1 - Lazy Gremlins 0.
Amazing. Huge congratulations to you on getting there on time and not only that but getting a course PB for this year. Really well done. That set you up nicely for the weekend.
