Knee trouble

Hi, not posted for months but still running/ trotting till recently. I think I swiveled on right leg playing tennis a out 3 weeks ago.. thereafter when I did the same action , as in getting out of the car and turning direction , my knee felt odd, as if a part of it was slightly separate to another part. No pain ,just an odd sensation and the thought " this isn't quite right". It didn't seem to affect running at at, until this week, when, after a long walk on Sunday and a 5 k on Monday morning, followed by a short warm down swim, it swelled up to the extent that I now can't bend it very far at all... Any thoughts or advice much appreciated. I saw a nurse practitioner today who has referred me for physio at the end of the month but who really didn't know what exercise I could safely do or if I could at least swim.. ....it's not actually painful but swollen so difficult to bend...thoughts??

I feel that our advice would be, wait until you have seen an expert... when the physio' has diagnosed the problem then you will know how to move forward safely.

If it does not seem to be improving over the next day or so and that swelling has not gone down.. ( are you following or have you followed any of the PRICE techniques).

...then it is time to see a GP and maybe get an x ray done... any swelling not responding to treatment needs to be sorted out.

Thanks OF.. yes, I'm doing all the price suggestions and will wait to see what the physio says. It's not good timing as I'm off to Sweden tomorrow with small grandchildren who are very active... My walking poles will definitely help.

Oh gosh... Use those poles... and try and keep up with the small whirlwinds.... have a super time! I hope it eases a tad for you xxx

Hi, I think Oldfloss has given good advice - I would err on the side of caution, especially as it is so swollen at the moment. Here’s hoping you can get a diagnosis and some treatment soon and can still get to enjoy your time in Sweden.🤞🙂

If you can afford it, I’d say go to a private sports physio to get treatment and advice as soon as possible Mormor1 . Although it is nearly the end of the month. But use an ice pack to bring down the swelling and don’t run until it is sorted .

Good luck . I had a dodgy knee a few weeks ago and physio advice and ultrasound got it sorted quickly.
