Very wet and unpleasant early on in my “traditional” pre IC running window yesterday – plus child to get to school and I dithered long enough to miss the opportunity altogether. BUT, several hours later when I knew if I was efficient, I could get carve 45 mins out of the day, and it was suddenly gloriously sunny, I decided to change quickly and just stretch and go.

Thought I would try for my whole loop – exactly 3 km rather than the 2 from Sunday. Should have just had a t-shirt rather than a long-sleeved top – silly of me as got very warm. Went a bit slower than Sunday albeit I never know until the weird voice tells me. Not quite 23 minutes of running but told myself still wiser to build back gradually.

Back is a bit twinge-y a day later - but I did have a longish drive in the afternoon, and I am putting it down to that since sitting is worse than being upright and driving the least comfortable of all. Will see what happens today.

I did “Pause the workout” when my eye was caught by this very colourful caterpillar on the road – moving with ungainly effort – much like myself!

Great run! Great picture! Absolutely worth stopping for such an impressive little caterpillar.

Hope your back settles down. Perhaps some gentle stretches might help a little?

It’s lovely to see you back off the couch and running again. You’re doing exactly the right thing in taking it slowly and listening to your body.

Thanks MU... Yes, whole day interspersed with odd positioning recommended by sports masseur which does help. Luckily all in the privacy of my own home 😁

Enjoyed reading your post. Initially I thought the photo was of some new outrageous running shoes, but no, it's a very striking caterpillar. Happy running :)

Pale Tussock Moth?

I know the feeling of wanting to run yet being paranoid about "Do No Harm"! So I hope your back is fine after that workout. I'm sure you'll be fine just taking it easy like this. Keep it up! (Carefully!)

"Fine" possibly not the word I would use for my back today but I likewise am hopeful that taking things very easy, whilst still actually running, will not do it any harm, and will certainly make me feel better generally 🤞 I've googled the Pale Tussock Moth - I'd say you have positively identified it - excellent - thank you! I feel instantly and effortlessly more knowledgeable!

My first run after the slipped disc - even though it was a few months after and the "run" was less than a minute ... oh, wow, I was expecting my back to collapse like a pack of cards. My physio had put me on to it, it was "approved", but I was just waiting for it to go horribly wrong. "Fine" really does take time to achieve and for a while I definitely mixed up light muscular ache, caused by everyday use, with imminent catastrophe !

I remember reading about your injury and the notice that you'd be offline for a while - and I seem to recall a very fetching picture of a cow. Its good to be back, however tentative the start and however vulnerable it feels to begin with isn't it?!
