Ha! I get another week running πŸ˜‚

My cataract op has been put back a week because I'm on antibiotics. My first thought isn't printable, but then I got all excited about having another week to do all the things I want to do, 😁.My daughter's first words were "You can come to Parkrun with us." , see we are both optimistic women.

Run happy, I certainly shall, I'm back to being excited about seeing better rather than nervous as it was drawing near πŸ˜‚

Do you have to take a long break from running after your cateract surgery?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Jools2020

Couple of weeks as far as I can tell, the paperwork they gave me says 2 weeks and not until first check up, I'm vague about driving because some people seem to get in their car and drive the next day and others can't drive until new glasses, that could be a few weeks beyond the second op. Oh but walking is fine 😁, can't bend down for 2 weeks, my crisps are in a low down cupboard 🀣🀣🀣

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

That will be frustrating! You’ll have to move your crisps to a higher cupboard 🀣

I think that driving should be when you can see properly 😊

Let's hope it's not too long for driving, or lay off the crisps 😁 but yes I will move them up

I love the way you are on the slippery slope that is parkrun. Saturdays will never be the same for or your family . Good luck with the op happening next week.

Thanks, oh it is a slippery slope, daughter is mapping out the letters in our names and loves the idea of driving somewhere, staying in a hotel, running local parkrun and driving home πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thank you, yes it is, I see in my future lots of mini holidays with parkruns as well

Same thing just happened to my sister - hospital rang on the day cataract op was due - they had run out of synthetic iodine apparently so it couldn’t go ahead! Hers is rescheduled for this Wednesday.

I was very lucky I had both mine done shortly before Covid hit. It was very successful for me.. clear bright colours again, and I also had corrective lenses put in - I was so shortsighted I was almost blind without contact lenses but now I have 20:20 vision.. all thanks to the NHS.

Hopefully yours will go ahead soon - don’t worry, it’s over very quickly and I’m sure it will go well.

Thank you, I'm more excited than worried, they've booked me in for the following week, I'm hoping they will do the second one soon after, my vision is very long which they will correct with the lenses, but I have double vision so will need glasses and will need glasses to read aswell

I had mine done about 5 years ago too. Had to wait 6 months for my 2nd one, which made life quite difficult, but, after a lifetime of being so shortsighted, being able to see perfectly and, yes, the bright colours (that was a surprise!) has been life changing!

That's so good to hear, I've been told it's 2-5 weeks before the second ones done, but not looking likely to have new glasses before Christmas, legs work though so I can run 🀣

Yes.. for quite a while I still automatically reached for specs when I first woke up πŸ˜‚Having needed them since I was 6 - it’s wonderful not to need them now!

Oh fabulous! More time for running and then new eyes! Move the crisps to eye level, they're an essential part of recovery πŸ˜‰. I have surgery scheduled for 6 Nov, straight after a half marathon, so I know how you feel. Please post in here about your recovery experience, and your new eyes. (My neighbour described his new sight, as being like opening the curtains on a dawn morning)

Thank you, yes I will post my recovery journey because I just can't help myself πŸ˜‚. A lady I knew had hers done and said colours were suddenly so much prettier πŸ˜€ I will move the crisps, maybe to the couch so I don't have to move to get them,

Teresa1632 profile image
Teresa1632Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Definitely move the crisps to the couch, that's a great plan! 😜. Especially as they are essential recovery food. Lots of TLC for a few days is prescribed for you. I can't wait to hear about how you get on. x

Oh goodie.... you are loving your park run... and when the op is done,,, you will love getting back to it!

Exactly

Love the mental image of the crisps being moved from low cupboard, to high cupboard, to couch. Probably some clever acronym someone could come up with to label a forum for those who have had to return to Couch for whatever reason...with crisps to hand πŸ˜‚ Enjoy the extra pre-runs, good luck with the op and enjoy your post-op snacks in comfort...

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to farsouthwest

Thanks , πŸ˜‚ it never occurred to me my crisp dilemma would get so many suggestions, I could always squeeze some in the chocolate cupboard which is eye level I guess, you know I could probably go without crisps for a fortnight,

farsouthwest profile image
farsouthwest in reply to SueAppleRun

That sounds like a step too far.... 2 weeks without crisps counts as a cruel and unusual punishment in my book πŸ˜‚

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to farsouthwest

2 weeks without running sounds like that too but yes, I agree πŸ˜‚

Crisp dilemma solved. I hope you have an emergency contact person in case you forget other necessities in low cupboards! ... Also, as a glasses wearer πŸ€“ I'm very envious of your soon-to-be-improved vision and brighter colours! 🌈

Ah thank you, I have loads of people who will be coming round, I also live in a block of 4 flats and we all get in well so one of them is on standby in case I need anything, one will walk and drive me places like the river and beach, we usually take turns to drive. And the other one would pop down if I need anything. I am incredibly lucky.

Allotmentrunner profile image

Hope all goes well for next week. Your positivity is amazing. I’m sure one run negates at least 5 packets of crisps!

Thank you, and do you really? I'll get a few more in then πŸ˜‚

My Dad's having his cataract done next week (assuming they don't run out of synthetic iodine or something).

A tip he was given was to get an Autodrop eyedrop guide from Amazon. It makes it much easier to put drops in your own eye. For a few days after the operation I think you have to use drops four times a day. He's tried it out with non-medicated eye soothing drops and says it's a big help.

Everyone I know who's had it done has been delighted with the results. Best of luck!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate

Thank you, yes those autodrop things are good, I'm fine with eyedrops, hope all goes well for him

Dad had his eye done yesterday and stayed with us overnight.

This morning he's bouncing with excitement, telling us how colourful the world has become. I hope you're as pleased with your results.

Wonderful, thanks for letting me know, yes me too, 😍 apart from reading glasses my sight is really good, and first thing I woke and thought I could run and run today then remembered I'm not allowed for 2 weeks, 🀣🀣🀣
