anyone heard of pisiform is syndrome?

had just reached 10km, ran it twice in fact and was feeling very pleased with myself. Made the mistake of going to an aquarobics class and found myself with the most awful pain running down my thigh and around my knee. GP diagnosed piriformis syndrome and gave me anti inflammatory tablets and something for nerve pain. Much better now and weirdly better with exercise so have been walking lots. Did my first run today and went back to week 7 of C25K so have run 25 mins. Feeling OK so far.

Yes

Piriformis syndrome is a condition in which the piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, spasms and causes buttock pain. The piriformis muscle also can irritate the nearby sciatic nerve and cause pain, numbness and tingling along the back of the leg and into the foot (similar to sciatic pain).

Well it was certainly very painful and made sitting down almost impossible for any length of time.

Had this to an extend that I could no bend my right leg at all. What helped were stretches plus physiotherapy as my muscles had tightened extremely.

I found the stretches on the YouTube channel by Dr. Rowe and crosschecked the exercises with my physiotherapist who agreed that they are legit and helpful. if you like, google Dr. Rowe Piriformis.

Thank you for this. I did look up stretches although not from the source you mention. The pain was excruciating if I sat on any sort of hard surface and it took lots of walking and stretches to get the muscle to relax enough to reduce the pain. Much better now and have done 25 mins of running with no Ill effects.

Yes, I've had this. Excruciating at the time but like you I found 'walking through it' helped. That's if you can bear the pain whilst you do it! My physio gave me back/core exercises to do too and gradually my back has strengthened* and the piriformis muscle has relaxed. Ice packs on the lower back also helped. Really hope you feel better soon. *he also told me that running has strengthened my back!

The physio I had seen a couple of weeks before and the GP both commented on how much strength I had in my legs despite the osteoarthritis in my hip. I think the key is to keep moving. I am off the painkillers now and have gone back to well spaced out runs from the C25K programme even though I had got to 10km several weeks ago.

I've had piriformis syndrome last Summer, caused by having perimenopause. I saw a physio who gave me acupuncture and some stretches to do. That combination definitely helped.

I suffer from time to time. It's soooo painful. Clam shell exercises really help me and will keep it at bay as long as I don't forget to do them , then they don't help at all 😂
