It looked like it was going to be a wet run! As I left my house for the 15 minute drive, it was tipping it down. I was wearing my lightweight running jacket. It’s always difficult to know what to wear when it’s raining. It was still really warm, and I had put on some lightweight leggings. Then I thought if they get wet in the rain, I would be uncomfortable - and hot! So I changed back into shorts. I was glad of that when I got to the park where we meet! It had stopped raining and the sun was shining. I took my jacket off and left it in the car.
I did some stretches while I waited and went on a warm up jog. This really helps with the Toxic 10. I went briefly into the woods. The others arrived and we split up into our groups. I had decided to run with the Jeffing group. It pushes me harder, but we take walking breaks as required. It was fun, we run on a mixture of terrains, on the road, on grass, gravel and into the woods. Running and chatting. I tried to jog slowly instead of walking in the breaks and that worked quite well for me. It was easier than brisk walking!
I did push myself on the run parts but I noticed that I was working a bit too hard around 3Km so had to slow down. One of our group decided to take a video of us running up an incline and I was happy how that turned out! I ran up it quite fast past the camera and had to stop afterwards for a few seconds!
I did slow down significantly near the end as I noticed I was running in heartrate zone 6 which spooked me a bit. Wait, 6? I thought there were only 5 zones! Probably my HR Max is not correct, but I was pushing pretty hard anyway.
I look forward to these runs with the club and getting to know the others. I’m not usually good in groups of people but I’m starting to have fun with them! A good run 😊👍🏃♀️
Photo shows one of the group with his back to the camera. He’s an ex marathon runner getting back to fitness and won’t face the camera until he’s lost weight!

Really sounds like a lovely group - and so good that you have the option to run in different ways. Kudos to the organiser too for seemingly organising this so well.
I am glad you've found this group Jools, it's livened your running no end, 😁 you sound so happy and the photos of the group back that up, it's stretching you as a runner as well
Sounds like fun Jools! Good for you pushing yourself, and isn’t it funny that form all of a sudden looks great when theirs a camera around? 😅
Is this a new club for you? I only ask because I’m going for the first time tomorrow evening and it’s petrifying! I’ve never been in a running club before, but my part time, used to be very flexible, job is getting more and more full on, so I thought I’d take the plunge.
Yes, it’s new. Just been 4 or 5 times and yes, the first time was a bit daunting! Hopefully it will suit you - I tried one last year and they took it a bit too seriously and I was too slow for them really. This one has quite a few different groups. It’s part of the Run Together group. Good luck!
Thank you for posting this Jools. It has served as a very useful reminder for me as I work back through Couch that runs come in many forms and don't need to be faster than the previous.
Lovely post, Jools2020. I run with a club once a week on a Wednesday. We formed it nearly 2 years ago at work and they’re about 11 of us max. We all go at our own speed starting together and meeting up at the end to stretch together and chat. It has a really supportive atmosphere and we socialise several times a year.
I would encourage anyone to join a club, even someone like me who prefers to run alone! They can add a different dimension to running and you can make new friends.
I firmly believe there is a club out there for everyone. You just need to try. Happy running everyone x
I like to run alone! Especially my long runs, but I also recognise that I spend too much time alone. There are places I would like to run, but not on my own (like in the woods) and I love to talk about running stuff with others. The running club is perfect for all this!
