Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Unfortunately no parkrun for me this weekend . I’ve had to bring my son to a football match. I’ll get out and do a (not) parkrun over the weekend. Enjoy everyone.
Jenny and I broke our Eastville streak. No justification needed, other than the fact I that I did NOT fancy it in today’s heat and I most likely would have not gone! Back to Severn Bridge it was, and imagine my delight when we got close and the fog descended. 🙏
But whilst the temperature dropped to a pleasant 19 degrees, the humidity rose to 91% with the stillest conditions I’ve ever experienced. People were commenting on the (absolutely zero) view, and we couldn’t even see the bridge! It was surreal.
My time was solid at 37:21 (37:23 Garmin, but my watch measured 4.98km so I ran on after collecting my token to round it up). Jen was 28:28. We were both pleased and treated ourselves to egg and cheese McMuffins and 2 x hash browns each! 😋
Good run for you today CC and congratulations to you and Jenny, that sea fog on the bridge would cool the runners down a little, better than blazing sunshine in a temperature of 22C, perhaps any photos of that parkrun will just be a blur.
Our local cafe just changed hands and they have changed the veggie breakfast to include veggie bacon and sausage which I don't want - the previous version was all the things I like best (egg, mushroom, tomatoes, hash brown, toast, beans without any pretend meat). So I had the carb free breakfast (egg, avocado, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and real bacon) with toast! 😀
It was really nice, and cheaper.
We don't always have a full breakfast but I was volunteering in the charity shop all afternoon so I needed to eat enough to see me through until tea time.
Oh I’m with you on not wanting fake meat RunaroundSue . I’m not veggie, but I eat loads of vegetables, and that old breakfast you describe sounds right up my street. I wouldn’t want veggie sausages or bacon either …. 😖
Truly was, I was part way through and I thought my body is really not liking this but then I got a bit ‘Magnus Magnusson’- “I’ve started so I must finish” but goodness I had to drag myself home!
Good afternoon Damien, for No. 95 parkrun for me and No. 50 parkrun for Palacerigg Country, I wore my 50 red T Shirt, there were many many runners also wearing red to celebrate the parkruns 1st birthday as well, after the run I ate a piece of cake and a chocolate biscuit, nothing great regarding my time of 33:44 on this all trail course, it's the last 1500 metres that's all uphill which slows me down, for the first 3K I was behind a runner only 10 seconds ahead of me but at the end because of the hill she finished almost 2 minutes in front of me, I do tend to walk up the steeper hills on this course, anyway that's No. 95, only 5 more until No. 100, I am still not sure which parkrun I'll run No. 100, probably Dunfermline as that is my "home" parkrun and the place I ran No. 25 and 50.
Thanks Sue, it was a good run for me today, the weather was warm and a bit humid, temperature about 20C but for once I was glad that the sun didn't shine until I was on my way home after the run, the cake was delicious 😋 yummy, I will be back to Palacerigg parkrun as the tailwalker on Saturday 30th September.
No parkrun for UpTheStanley and me as we are (foolishly?) running a 10k in the New Forest tomorrow . I’m hoping it won’t be so hot under the trees but the forecast of lightning 🌩️ is scary. 🤞
We volunteered though, UTS was a marshal and I did Finish Tokens. Glad I wasn’t running on the prom. Just standing in the sun for an hour was enough for me. 😎
Would they have to cancel the race if lightning was likely Dexy5 ? It was touch and go at Eastville a few weeks ago as it was forecast, but never materialised. The RDs were poised to cancel, but luckily didn’t need to. 🙏
parkrun rules say they have to cancel, but to be honest the forecast changes every few minutes so I think we are on until told otherwise. It would be a shame if they did cancel as many are booked into hotels for the weekend. And some are camping.
I wish you Dexy and UpTheStanley all the best for your 10K run in the New Forest tomorrow, I have looked at a detailed weather forecast for that area from a reliable forecaster, any thunder will be in the afternoon after most runners have completed their run, starting temperature about 20C.
It keeps changing Al. At the moment it’s starting at 12.00 (met office) and many of us will still be running then. The rain will be most welcome to cool us down, but not the lightning. But I’m sure we will be fine when the time comes.
We arrived back from France on Tuesday evening after a frustrating delay at the Tunnel and then spent a couple of days sorting out everything after almost 8 weeks away. I had intended to go back to Trotters on Thursday evening, but it was far too hot so parkrun no. 83 today was my first run in two weeks. Full sun, 21c at 8.30am, no shade, no breeze so I decided just to take it steady. Only 107 runners today and I was 20th female finisher despite a time of 35.31 and I still ended up a red faced, sweaty mess. Still, no doubt we’ll be complaining of the cold and wet in a few weeks’ time. Enjoy what’s left of the sunshine 🌞
Very well done. I had an end of season BBQ yesterday evening and had my neighbours over to make use of what will probably be the end of lovely weather. Enjoy bouncing back to the running.
According to Strava, today is one year since I graduated Couch to 5K! I wasn’t aware, but anyway, went to Hackney Marshes parkrun, which I now consider my celebration run.
I almost got a PB. Should have sprinted the last 200ms and would have shaved a few seconds off my run. My friend then pointed out it was good I almost had it regardless, considering the heat and the fact it was mostly grass. I’ve decided I don’t like to run on it, despite what people may say about it being better for your knees.
Well done DiogoC ! Getting close to a PB in today’s heat is pretty impressive!
I agree about grass. Lots of my runs are on it, because it’s the closest route to home, and I used to think it was easier too. Not any more, it’s sapping!
Well done to everyone who ran in the heat today, and also to anyone who wasn't too hot!
We helped with set up today then I did the First Timers Welcome to about 50 First Timers/Tourists (out of 212 runners). No idea why, I am not aware that it was a special event.
I set off running but quickly realised that it was far too hot so I switched to run/walk. Luckily I had taken my beeper with me because I have been running the full 5K the last few weeks.
Just over 40 minutes which was quicker than I expected in that heat.
23° at Lakeside this morning - the hottest parkrun I can remember for a while! Stuck to the recent jeffing pattern but reduced the pace. When I got back to the car I went to my water bottle for a well-deserved drink only to find that I hadn't done it up properly and all the water was now on the towel I was about to dry myself with - doh!
O how awful JP, you must have been very very thirsty and then found out that you couldn't drink anything after your run, I hope you managed to get a drink somewhere, I always take liquid with me for runs but I only drink after I run unless it's very warm like it was on my 10K last week when I did drink also during the run.
I also only live around 10 minutes from where I ran that 10K, I do admire people who travel hundreds of miles to run a 10K, half or full marathon, it just shows how many people love running
Good afternoon (the day after), Damien and fellow runners.
Parkrun number 80 for me, and my twentieth visit to Hafan Pwllheli.
A cooler morning, but very humid, with rain in the vicinity.
A few chats with people before the start, then we were off. The tide was fully out and the sand was on the firmer side, with some bars of shingle.
I ran continuously on the outward leg, did my usual request for "a 99 with chocolate sauce" off the turnaround marshal, who laughed and said there was probably somewhere I could get one on the other side of the dunes (at the former Pwllheli Butlins near Abererch).
The return back to the start was harder and I did run/walk/run on it, using a lady in a cyan top in front of me as a pace marker.
Afterwards I hung around chatting with various folk, including a guy who had once been the accountant at a large bakery in Northwich (Roberts) but is now a roving handyman.
My time was 30'04", 41 out of 80.
The finish funnel at a parkrun. Orange cones on sand. Marshals in fluorescent jackets.
I’m on a 3 parkrun streak, I jog round, haven’t developed the conditioning to run a 5k at speed yet. My aim is to be consistent to literally keep on running. As I can be a bit start stop….
