This is a photo of Lorraine the 70 minute pacer who helped me get a sub 70 minutes time of 1:09:22 at the Cumbernauld 10K on Sunday, that's me behind her #212 running along the side of Broadwood Loch a little less than 3 kilometers before the finishing line.

Almorr 70 minutes pacer
Well done and your pacemaker π
She is a very good pacer, Lorraine has ran around 325 parkruns, by the way the photo was taken just under 3K to go,, we are going west south west on that photo, once the runners are at the opposite side of the loch, then it's 1500 metres going east north east towards the football stadium, if you look closely at the top right corner of the photo across the loch you can see the stadium that the run started and finished, by the way the lady behind me, #205 was the parkwalker the day I was the tailwalker at Palacerigg parkrun earlier in June.
Well done on that time Al, it certainly looks like a nice place to run!
She looks like she was very happy to be your pacemaker! Well done to both of you. ππππ
On her Facebook page she congratulated me on getting that sub 70 minutes time and was very happy too.
I would be delighted to run with a pacemaker that would push me just a little!
She "didn't half push me", on the last 50 metres she screamed at me to sprint which I did, I was 38 seconds short of 70 minutes and ahead of her on the finishing line.
It was a sterling effort, Al! Maybe you should book her for your next 10K event π
If I see her at one of the parkruns I go to I will ask her to pace me to get a sub 30 minute 5k, perhaps about 29:55.
PS Jools, update, one year later, 2024, Lorraine wasn't there yesterday 15 September 2024, I got another pacemaker who got me a PB time of 1:07:38 compared to the 1:09:22 of 2023.
I remember this post! If I recall your new PB post, the pacer was running slightly faster, which pushed you just enough for the PB for the recent 10K. In any case - you continue to be an inspiration for many people on this forum and Iβm so happy for you for your new, well deserved PB! π
π ππΎthe pacer yesterday was running at a very steady pace, to be exact, 6.45m/k, not 7m/K, which meant at 5K I ran it in 34 minutes, not 35, the pacer completed the run in exactly 68 minutes, not 70, the reason I was less than 68 minutes, 22 second less was that I sprinted the last 40 metres to the finishing line.
She looks so happy and you're looking good too Al
You did amazingly !!! Well done you! Great pacemaker indeed!
Great action shot there Al. You and Lorraine made a great team π
Yes we do lexi, she attends many parkruns on a Saturday. π ππΎ
Update, she has now ran 345 parkruns, volunteered 109 times including 13 times as Run Director.
That is just brilliant Alan, what amazing statistics . Volunteers like her are the β€οΈ of parkrun. I hope you are well?
Good evening lexi6, I am keeping very well thank you, on Wednesday I ran another 8K, I was hoping to get a sub 60 minutes time which I mansged, my 8K time was 00:59:37, I hope you are keeping well and perhaps doing a few parkruns.
a really good time Alan for your 8k . I'm very well thank you I've only done 2 parks runs in the last couple of years but I'm hoping 2024 will see me do some more π€
I'll be a marshall at Springburn parkrun in Glasgow this coming Saturday, there is a runner I know there who ran at two parkruns in New Zealand last year, when she came back home she told me that she enjoyed those two parkruns, however, on the way home to the UK she was delayed for a few days due to flooding where she was staying, here in the UK we have also had a lot of severe weather, heavy rain, storm force winds and flooding.
I hope Springburn enjoys some fine weather on Saturday Alan and good for you volunteering . Yes NZ had some pretty devastating cyclones last year, which the Hawkes Bay and the Bay of Plenty especially are still recovering from. The UK, likewise, looking at your news has had and is having some terrible flooding and storms too I see. Having been flooded more than once its very difficult time and I sympathise
Thatβs a brilliant time Al-really well done to you. I bet your pacer would have been thrilled to have played a role in that.
πItβs great to put a photo to a name & also to see the beautiful Loch where most of your runs & walks take place! What a camaraderie the running family are!! Love that team work! Lorraine looks like she could run another 10k with that amazing smile! The stadium looks very far away AlMorr! So well done to you. Great run, great timing, great spirits!!
Well done AlMorr
Pacing is a form of witchcraft and sorcery. Excellent result!
My own personal experience is that my pacing is either βstopβ or βgoβ, there are no subtleties π
Fantastic job, well done Alπππ
I don't know how you do it Al! Well done π
Thanks 59er, I don't know either how I do it but I just keep going slow and steady and somehow complete those runs βοΈππΎ
πππππππππ
(And youβd beat me any day of the week β¦, slow is relative ππ but steady is universal! And completing is awesome! Well done!)
