Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

This morning I was up early and drove 90 minutes to Gorey parkrun. It was a lovely flat 3.5 lap course which I ran with Ruby. I took my time and we did a time of 32:46. But today there were no walking breaks. I just chugged along. That was my 49th different parkrun course. Happy running everyone.
Well done! Have you got a tourism t-shirt that you have all the parkruns printed on ?(met a few people who have!) A real talking point when you go somewhere new!
Here’s my PR report, short and sweet. I did nothing! No running, no volunteering. I gave myself the weekend off after a crazy week, chock full of everything (no running however) and I needed to decompress this morning.
I made a G&T cheesecake for a party I’m off to later, licked the spoon and thought, yep, I made the right decision!
No PB this week. Back at my nearest venue, one of the fifteen hardest in the UK, saying hi to the marshals and some of the regulars.
According to the list here thepowerof10.info/content/i... Coldham's Common (last week's PB) is ranked 144 fastest, Cannock Chase (my previous PB) is 236, and my two regulars are ranked 750 (Chadderton Hall) and 751 (Hafan Pwllheli). Hardest in the list is Great Yarmouth North Beach (which I haven't done) at 760, because it's all on fluffy yellow sand.
Parkrun number 79 for me, but number 150 for a regular who was celebrating his 75th birthday today.
It was a bright morning and it got gradually warmer as the run went on.
A lady who is a regular, whose husband usually comes too with their pair of pomeranians to cheer from the sidelines, set off with great purpose and studied technique (she has a coach). I followed her for a lap and a half until she ran out of steam and eased off.
Near the end of that lap I was lapped first by a guy and then a lady who were really motoring. I heard later that the lady had knocked something like 90 seconds off her previous visit's time today.
I didn't feel any urge to do a sprint finish.
Afterwards I hung around and chatted and waited to cheer the birthday guy home.
A few of them don’t seem to be active any longer but Cheekychipmunks, Tailchaser and Katnap (with beard!) with both kittens (looking very young) are there, along with Runaroundsue as she has said. Also Jay66, Baddiethepirate and I can’t remember the others. That was a good day!
I forgot to say there was a guy there yesterday who had done 585 parkruns (including over 250 volunteer credits, mostly for course checks, token sorting, etc. that are done before or after the run).
Good afternoon Damien, this morning I got the train into Glasgow and for the second time I was the tailwalker at Springburn parkrun, I didn't want to run this morning as I have my first ever 10K EVENT RACE tomorrow, as it was I got into a good conversation with the mother of a marathon runner who was running his first parkrun, so no need to run, my walking time was 54:24, her marathon son lapped me and his mother less than halfway around the course and I noticed he ran his first parkrun in a time of 20:20 but was disappointed that it was not sub 20 minutes, so that's me ready for tomorrow's 10K.
4K of this event tomorrow takes place on the same route as most of my 5 and 10K runs, the race starts at Broadwood Football Stadium Cumbernauld which is about 13 miles north east of Glasgow, halfway between Glasgow and Stirling, I only live 2 kilometers from the stadium so not too far away,.
Thanks BC66, the weather forecast for around 11am tomorrow is to be partly cloudy with some sunny intervals and a temperature of around 17C/63F, I will take plenty of liquid to avoid dehydration.
Park run at my alternative venue again this morning. Not so many participants but a couple of running clubs. I decided to do a 2 minute warm up walk to begin with as I always start off too fast. Warm and sunny. No PB, good news is I came 1st in my age group, not telling you the not so good news!! It's the taking part that matters.😆🏃♀️
It’s definitely about the taking part Bruch1! I quite often start with a walk as well, although starting too fast isn’t normally a problem for me with my one-pace gait! Your PB is waiting for you next time, I’m sure!
Gosh! My local park run has about 120 regulars and I think that’s waaaay too many for the trails (especially one bit that is very narrow). Though I have to admit I haven’t run it officially (just ran the same route so far).
How do you run with 699 people around you? Impressive
There’s a bit that’s famously narrow and everybody knows it can take a while to get going, but after the bulk of people have gone through, it flows quite well. The paths are wide and there are various bits where people sort of divide and go left or right between the trees. It’s nice to see the people leading the charge halfway down the route while you’re further back 😅
Ok that doesn’t sound terrible. Actually, you might have sold me on Clapham. Sounds more relaxed than the park run SE. Just checking the stats and half of the times look like they were run by pros 😅
Decided to complete the final run in Maidstone (there are 3 all within a few miles of each other) so headed to Maidstone and to The Museum of Kent.
Plenty of on-site parking (free) or you could turn up in your boat and moor up, it starts at the Museum which is an indoor & outdoor activity /educational centre.
The run itself is along the towpath for the River Medway and is an out & back course.
First timers briefing warned us that it is narrow at the start and all runners that are in the sub 20 minute category to start at the front, with anyone else starting a bit further behind.
Well they weren’t wrong! It took me nearly a good km before I could really start running as no opportunities to make any kind of progress, but once I had the chance I managed to get into my run.
There was a wobbly bridge near the half way point and again we were warned to just go with it but it made running quite tricky.
I latched onto a couple of runners, one of which had come over from Malta and was using this as a training run before doing the London 10km tomorrow. Chatting to them made the time pass much quicker and before we knew it we were near the finish. As a bit of punishment it was a sprint hill finish 🥵. Not as quick as last week (380 runners today) but glad to get round in 36:56.
Back over the lock for a cuppa at The Little Old Toll House before heading back home.
Hi Damien, I seem to have managed to bruise some toes in the week, still haven’t worked out how, so while I wanted to run I ended up doing my 77th volunteer session instead this morning. A little gentle barcode scanning is always good fun and I have a good patter in persuading runners to head my way - a cry of ‘get your free barcode scanning here’ always gets a smile! Followed of course by a very yummy breakfast with Coddfish (Timekeeper extraordinaire), Dexy5 and UpTheStanley. Happy parkrunning folks!
Hello damienair and running people. After a broken night’s sleep , I knew it wasn’t a PB day, but I did want to try a run. A busy morning with 488 runners , walkers and joggers. It was cloudy and 18c at the start but then the sun came out. I started very well but I still had the Severn bridge race in my legs, and I got overheated and had to walk/run. Although I wore a thin shirt, I should have worn a vest. I considered running in my sports bra but decided Southsea wasn’t quite ready for that!
According to Mr Garmin I ran 82% in zone 1 so I certainly wasn’t slacking even though I ran/walked in the second half. parkrun time 35:45, watch time 34:54. 1st in age group.
Breakfast with the Motley Crew for the first time in ages.
Took it a bit easier this morning at Portsmouth Lakeside as the hernia was playing up - I think it knows that its days are numbered with my op due at the end of the month! Still managed to come in 198 of 271 so not too shabby.
I sneaked in a rather warm (20C) 5k this morning. 7:03/k time, so not bad under the circumstances (circumstances being I am unfit and 3k too heavy). There was very little by way of birdsong; Maybe they know something about the weather that I don’t! I may do an NRC HM plan 6k on Monday to start off my return to longer distances. Have to start somewhere!! Hope every one had good runs this morning; make the most of dry conditions while we can. 👍
Our final weekend in France for this year so no parkrun yesterday, but I’ll be back next week. However, we are in the Auvergne for the weekend and walked over 10k with the equivalent of 70 flights of stairs climbed so got a good workout! (Yes, we did walk to the top 🥵)
Definitely not! Would be interesting to see the demographic for the congregants, as they still have some services there. Having said that it is one of the starting points for the Camino de Santiago, so lots of long distance pilgrims
We went a bit early to help with the set up, then I welcomed the first timers. A steady plod around the field for me before breakfast and token sorting.Today I was RD at juniors but I didn’t have to do the warm up because a brother and sister are keen to do it (better than me) and are chasing their purple shirts.
2nd parkrun yesterday, got a new pb below 40 minutes, with a position of 364/393 feeling pretty good but totally shattered today, looking forward to the next one, 😄 . Parkruns are so friendly, at both runs I've done so far a chap named Paul, who had already finished came back to help me on for the last Kilometre, totally recommend parkruns for everyone.
