We set off this morning to run another 3km. I couldn't find my knee supports so decided to risk running without them.
The first couple of minutes were really tough but then I sort of found my breath and my pace and it got a whole lot better. It was only around 17C and overcast so perfect conditions.
At around 1.5km I decided I wanted to have a look at the little reservoir that's used for irrigation. It's not a very big detour, just turn left instead of carrying on. A huge flock of geese were on the adjacent field. I tried willing them to take off as the sound of hundreds of wings is so impressive but they didn't get the hint (I certainly wouldn't run at or disturb them).
The reservoir was a bit of an anticlimax, no waterbirds and the level was down a bit so I turned back to the original route and carried on running. As I neared the end I realised I was only 300 km short of 4km so continued until NRC told me I'd reached it.
This is the furthest I've run for ages! And, when I checked I had negative splits, been a long time since that's happened. First km 8'25", then 8'08", 8'04". 7'40". Even the 0.01 that always seems to get tagged on at the end didn't ruin it -7'20". These are pretty good paces for me and my average heart rate wasn't too bad either.
Oh, and NRC gave me a 3x week badge, haven't had one of them for ages and that nice Mr Garmin seems to have knocked another year off my age which is encouraging too.
So far so good no IT band issues despite the distance and the lack of supports, fingers crossed things are resolving 😁🏃♀️💨
I'm toying with doing our local 10k again on 8th October but will obviously need to do a bit of work to get in shape for that. I'll be away for a couple of weeks in the meantime when I may not be able to run so will have to play it by ear.
