Another go at NRC 60’s πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I threatened to have another go at this and this morning I did. I needed to fit in a short run this morning so an early start and this interval run was perfect. I overdid it last time on the mile run intervals, so wanted to put that right.

I set out this morning before 7:00 a.m. and remembered why I like to run early! It wasn’t so hot this morning, but still warm enough for sleeveless tee shirt and shorts. I headed up the hill on my warm up walk and this time I thought to start the workout on my walk, remembering that a 5 minute warm up walk was incorporated, although I didn’t start my watch until I started the first set of intervals.

Off we go at 5K pace. I thought I was pretty spot on with this, but afterwards the stats for the first 60 seconds say I was much slower I think it was a blip. A glitch in the matrix! Also, I was a bit too fast on one of my 10K pace intervals.

The third section running at 5 mile pace I did much better that last time, knowing I had to slow down. Still a bit too fast, though. They were all 6 something mins/km, ending at 6:10 for the last one. Ha! I couldn’t keep that pace up for a kilometre, never mind a mile πŸ˜‚, but I just couldn’t help it, Your Honour!

I was tired at the end, but I paused my watch for 30 seconds while I walked and then jogged to make it up to 3K.

I really enjoyed this workout. Perhaps I like the structure now and then. Running for 60 seconds is so doable. But - I think I need to move on to the 90’s workout next time! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

Thanks, Ian - I really do! Trying to do one a week. That’s my second run this week and hoping for a third at the weekend. 😊

Thanks, it won't be long so not too bothered 😁But this always seems to happen when approaching 10 miles πŸ€”

Well, not always stomach problems, but certainly problems πŸ€”πŸ˜πŸ€£

Maybe you should try pretending you have no intention of going on a 10 mile run!

Great stuff Jools! The interval runs are good fun aren't they, though I'm still rather daunted by the prospect each time.

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

They are good fun and you’re only working hard for the last 4 intervals! Love that…….😊

Good run for you Jools, well done, very sensible to start the run at 7 am as it's not just as hot at that time but more humid at that time of the day, hopefully, the weather cools down where you are in the next few days.

It was lovely to be out early, back for stretches shower and breakfast - all done and dusted by 8:30! One huge problem though - did not feel like eating ice cream that early πŸ˜‚

I admit that I don't eat ice cream before half past nine in the morning, if my run ends at 8.30, then I'll wait a hour before that ice cream.

I was doing lots of interval runs just over a year ago. Not as structured as that one: just long jogs with short sprints.

Well done!

I think I tried that. The jogs got longer and the sprints got shorter! I like the structure but certainly don’t want it on every run. Once a week is just right and I’m more likely to keep the run frequency up, something I’ve had real problems with lately.

Nice one, well done!! πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨ I really enjoy the NRC interval runs but I don't think I've done that particular one. Must give it a go! πŸ‘

Don’t do what I did the first time and give an 11/10 effort for your mile pace!

BeatlesforeverGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

Thanks for the warning, I'm pretty sure I would've done that! πŸ₯΅πŸ˜‚

Sounds like a good run Jools, it was certainly fresher this morning of late so much more comfortable for running. Cracking the flags here now though, phew, where did I put the ice cream...... πŸ˜€

Thanks, it was a good workout at the end! It was much cooler today but the early start helped. Certainly warmed up throughout the day but definitely cooler than Tuesday! I forgot to have my ice cream reward, I was going to have it mid morning!

They were fun! I was actually looking forward to the mile pace, which is supposed to be a 9/10 effort. I did slow down a tad from last time but still had a good workout!

Well done on that interval run πŸ‘. Must admit I’ve become a fan of these NRC structured runs. The intervals are great aren’t they? πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Reggiegirl

They are and although I’m just using them for intervals at the moment, I love the guided longer runs, too. I think I’ve done all the guided runs for 5K, 10K and 10 miles!

Good work, although they're hard aren't they?! I went out and did the 90's one tonight, and the 3 x mile pace seem much longer than 90 seconds!! πŸ˜…πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
