Third run after Covid: run cut short but that’s ok

I did my third run this morning, after getting back on the wagon after a break due to Covid. My hubby still seems to test positive, I negative since a week now, but I can tell my little workouts (runs and rows) do take it out of me.

The little 20 minute hill runs and 15 minutes rows all feel great and get me hot and sweaty, but energised. But about an hour after each one, exhaustion hits specifically my legs.

So I’m taking it slow, whilst still moving forward.

This morning, I put on a 20 min recovery run by NRC, a slow beat-ed music playlist, chose my route closest to my home and took off, ( after having to wait for my phone to be charged … doh! 🙄 I know!)

This route does have a hill, but it’s the closest to my house, so it’s my go to route for short runs. It also has a handy two-post signpost after a 2 min warmup-walk, perfect for my dynamic calf stretches (both grastroc and soleus).

Originally I thought I would run the whole route, which is basically 35 minutes running around a hill, with an up and down route incline . But a tree seemed to have fallen over on part of my route, and the other option had too many nettles. Looking down on my knee-lengths capris, I knew I didn’t want to navigate a nettled path with bare legs.

So up and down the hill it was, a simple out and back. 24 minutes, with two 1-minute walking interludes and 2 min warmup and 2 min cool down walk.

So just 20 minutes, but I think that might be better anyway, needing to keep my increase in running slow, post Covid.

I’ll never get rid of my back problem but just have to live with it and enjoy what I do. It’s more Mr D that’s the worry, think he will be giving in and going to physio.
