Hi (previously known as Heartlesstroll - I didn’t realise what a troll was - lol yes I am old - thought I’d better change my username ).

I run 2 - 3 times most weeks and I am now wanting a new challenge so 10 K is the new goal - am I mad ?

No you are not mad MsFickle, if you wish to run a 10K try Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan, it's not a app like C25K but a training course a little like C25K, good luck.

There are so many emotions and thoughts that pop up when we set a new goal. There’s something about saying it out loud (or typing it here!) that makes it real, and that’s when we can start to question if we’re up to it or not. That’s totally normal! You’re not mad at all. Those big, scary goals can sometimes be just what we need to move us outside our comfort zone and to somewhere new and exciting! You’ve got this.

The great news is that loads of us have been there and we can cheer you on. The magic plan is how I got to 10k-it really works! You can take it as steady as you like. Usually, runners who like to run slowly prefer the time based version. There’s some information here …

Can’t wait to hear how you’re getting on!

I agree saying it out loud means in my head I have told everyone now I must do it - although just looked on ju ju plan and the timings - 6 years on and I still can’t run 5 k in 30 minutes only achieved it once - 😂

Loads of really great runners don’t run 5k in 30 minutes. My wonderful friend who runs ultramarathons doesn’t! Most of the time, I don’t run 5k in 30 minutes either!

If you’re doing the timed version of the magic plan, the distance you’re covering really doesn’t matter. When you get to the end, you’ll probably have an idea (or we can help you) of how long it will take you to get to 10k and plan for gentle increases to get there. One step at a time, you’ll get there! 🏃‍♀️💪❤️

Hi MsFickle , re timings, since the Magic Plan is actually two plans, you can always start with the 60 minute plan (green text) then swap over to the appropriate point in the 10K plan (red text) when you've seen how far you're running in 60 minutes.

Fwiw, I got to 10K before I was able to run 5K in under 30 minutes. In fact I've rarely managed a sub-30 5k, it's far too much like hard work!

Not mad at all MsFickle! The magic plan is brilliant and like C25K you don’t feel any pressure to complete it all at once.Go for it!

Welcome aboard. I've done a couple of weeks of Juju's timed plan, it will be good to have someone else along with me. Happy running 🏃‍♀️

A troll was a gnome when I was young.

And no you are not mad ! I used the Magic plan to get there.

Yes I agree but learnt it means I’m trolling people lol

Not at all mad.

I remember getting close to finishing C25K and looking at everyone going on doing longer distances and thinking "I'll never be doing that!"

Six months later (delayed due to injury) I was running 10km myself.

I didn't use Ju-Ju's plan but did something a little more varied (using intervals runs for some of the shorter ones).

How are those little billy goats gruff? 😆

lol exactiy that’s what I thought a troll was I ran 10 k shortly after I graduated but that was 6 years ago - I just feel the need to complete another - I am much slower now though 😢

you really don't need to worry about speed. After graduating I used Ju-Ju's magic plan to get to 60 mins and then 10k, but I still can't do 5k in less than 35 mins!

I hated running and All Things PE when I was in school. Yet something moved me to do C25k and then my first 5k race in 2016. I've been waffling since.

When swimming classes stopped for the summer I decided to start training for a 10k, to fill the gap. If you are mad, I am too!

I have never run 5k in less than 30 mins though. It would be nice, but I'm not too worried about it.

Not what you're looking for?
