I won't bore you with all that's been happening especially as many of you are probably just as busy. I have been observing the forum though and have read some lovely posts by many of my VRB's.However I need to share my latest acheivement with you all as many of you have been the inspiration and help when needed to get me here.
I took part in the Ogi Porthcawl 10k last Sunday. I wasn't going to run it although it's my local run as Mrs OMR and I were off to see Sting perform at Cardiff Castle. My running daughter and I ran the Caerphilly 10k, something we promised to do together as she didn't enjoy our Porthcawl one, so we'd got that out the way. So why did I run? Well her husband got injured so he transferred his entry to me; not quite as generous as I had to pay.
Caerphilly 10k we managed in 64:20 and I wondered if I felt OK during this race I could crack the magic hour! However the important thing was starting and finishing, not time, especially as I knew so many people.
I didn't want to get dragged into starting too fast but wanted to keep within sight of the 60 minute pacer and if I felt OK pass him in the last km and fingers crossed his timekeeping would be accurate.
Well through the first 5km his flag seemed to get further away but I continued at what I felt was a comfortable pace. Although for some reason my watch was displaying heartrate and pace and not the info I wanted.
At 7k the route starts it's climb to the 9k point with a sharp left turn where I glanced the 60min flag through the bushes about 150ms in front of me. A chance, but the last time I ran up this lane I had a nightmare and had to walk parts of it.
As I continued my legs and breathing felt okay and I started to pick off runners. At the 9k mark the climb stops and there's a good downhill to open your legs on and about 70ms in front of me was that flag. I managed to pass the flag with about 300ms to go and just kept pushing until I crossed the line.
Now I just had to worry about his 60min accuracy.
Well he must of been spot on as my time came out 59.05 and maybe it could have been a little faster if I hadn't soaked myself juggling the opened bottle of water at the drink station just after 4k π
A big thank you to my little supporters seen in the photos.
Anyone guess which song Sting was singing in the stage photo? Answers on a postcard
