Magic 10, injury story with a happy(ish) ending

Hi all, have been doing the Magic 10 plan and was going great until a couple of weeks ago when re-enacting the Wimbledon final in the garden with my son when he wrong footed me with a short and I felt something give( groin strain) 😢 alas the younger man won again!

Ignoring the advice I would give to others I have continued running, today should have been my first run of week 7, the 9k but despite doing stretches targeting the injury it is not improving so my cunning plan (as I am soooo close to finishing the plan) was to see how it felt at 9k and if all was good to carry on and do the 10k.

As usual the first 1/2 k was hell (picture a hobbling jog) but after that it eases a bit and you can actually run. Had breakfast for the first time before a run today and seemed to help. Anyway, I DID IT!!! 10k in the bag, so happy 😁😁😁

Now, is there any room on that injury couch?

Good luck all you Magic 10 runners, you can do it!! Will be watching from the sidelines.

Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉

How fast would you be uninjured!!!😂😂

Lol, 😂 just very poor at pacing myself for the 1st 2km, it catches up with me in the 2nd half though 😂. Was trying to force myself on at the start as I knew once I got into a rhythm I should be ok

Thanks Chris, paying for it now though 😁

Very well done. Hope the injury heals itself soon

Thanks backintime, annoyed with myself because I was being careful with the running, but just one of those things. Will be looking out for your post when you reach 10k, good luck

Fantastic, well done! I also went out today with it in mind to see how I felt at 9k and if ok would carry on and I did too. I also struggle with the pace at the start, but actually today’s run was fairly consistent and I was quite pleased with my time in the end!

Thanks Julia, feels good doesn’t it😁. I have had runs with a consistent pace and they definitely go better, but today wasn’t one of them, just wanted to get to the end before the leg gave up. Will now try to be sensible and let it recover before carrying on running.

It really does make a difference, I think I’m running at a certain pace but when I check I’m going too quick! I know I’ll learn with experience!

Congratulations TLF! That first 10k really feels special - and what an amazing time!🎉👍😀

Thanks JonathanP, it really does. The time was a bonus, but It is the distance that is my goal.
