Back to it after 22 days of not running

I’ve been Ill with the same lurgy that I had for 6 weeks back in December/Jan (sore throat, cough, achey and the dreaded sinus pain). I felt like it’d taken me until June to get my fitness levels back to where they were previously (I’d had an injury as well which was another two weeks on top of the lurgy). So I’d decided to book some race events and I wanted to further my longest distance of 10k - I managed 11k and was really pleased as it was a nice easy pace. Then bam 💥 three weeks wiping me out - not running at all 😢 I really missed getting out, I missed my running club and seeing all the runs they were doing together was difficult. I had to cancel a 10k race too. I knew the runs would be waiting for me and so I went back to training last night and we did just over 5k, nice pace but lots of hills. I was really happy I managed it and enjoyed it without my fitness levels dropping too much. I have another 10k race this weekend so I’m looking forward to that but not as much as I would if I hadn’t had the 3 week running break 🙈 wish me luck! 🤞🏻

There's an awful lot of the lurgy about isn't there? I've had it twice this year, not having had any sort of cough/cold for about 5 or 6 years (other than Covid last August).

Good luck with your 10k, all your running in the past plus the sheer excitement will get you through it. It really is all about the taking part, hope it goes well for you Dendev75

Arghh Dendev, that’s rotten luck - but it sounds like you’re back and what better way to celebrate being lurgy free than running a 10k race. Hope it goes well, and most of all I hope you have fun!

I had back to back lurgies too; one in September/October last year which left me with viral fatigue (self diagnosis on that, but it was literally what I had!), then another in February/March which kept me off running for 7 weeks and I lost SO much fitness. You appear to have escaped that which is great news. 🙏

Oh it’s just horrible when the lurgy lingers for so long 😫😷. It knocked me for six last time but hopefully I don’t feel too bad after this 3 week stint 🤞🏻. Thank you, I’ll be taking it very easy and will just bumble round ☺️👍🏻

Such rotten luck for you! I hope you’ll get back to your full fitness before long. It’s good to see you getting out running again. Don’t over do it to quickly though. However good luck on your up and coming 10k.👍👏👏🥰😂🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I know, I’ve been debating all week whether to cancel this race but after my run this week I’m feeling positive about it - thanks 🤞🏻👍🏻

I think if you’re feeling a lot better and fitter and more positive go for it. If your anything like me and you cancel you’ll always be wondering “what if ! what if”. However you must make sure you’re feeling 100%which I’m sure you will. Good luck and enjoy your race🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️👍🥰😂

A great opportunity for a no pressure 10k at the weekend to see where you are 😊😊
