Too little sleep, stomach bug, work, everything seems to be getting in the way of running.
To be honest, it's mostly work causing the too little sleep and probably the stomach bug from eating on the fly.
A couple of my clients are universities and one of the teaching unions is having a boycott on marking student papers, so some students can't graduate fully without their final marks.
That sucks for them and for the staff too as we are running around writing new "temporary" transcripts, emails and adjusting all the end of year technical stuff that starts with "when the student graduates". I work in IT so we are heavily involved in adapting processes including working weekends and evenings
In some ways I don't mind, the students (not yet) graduating this year have started with covid and are ending with these boycotts and I feel sorry for them. That's not how university normally is and they've paid a lot of money to get there. BUT, selfishly, it's made me too tired to run. Mentally I am exhausted and physically tired from lack of sleep and bad quality sleep.
Today is the first day I haven't worked in two weeks, although I may catch up a bit for another client later it's not mentally challenging, I can do it in front of the TV. So today I RUN. Posting it here to keep myself honest and get me in the right mindset.
Onwards and upwards (albeit just a little bit)

I'm really feeling this. The schooling for my two has been totally messed up. And we had our first university visit last week, ready for September 2024. I spoke about my sympathy for the students who have missed out on one of the great experiences of their lives. Ours have been totally screwed, but will (hopefully) still get to do uni.
I chose to run on Friday, but work stress and long Covid hangover means that was my energy for the day and I am STILL feeling the effects of the run. I have had one night of 6 hours sleep in the last two weeks, but have kept running where possible. Much else has gone by the board. Today should be a running day, but on 5 hours sleep and after 13k steps yesterday, it's not on. Work night tomorrow and Wednesday, so those days are non-run days.
I hear you 🤗 Same here. Different job but same relentless pace, fatigue and lack of running. My brain is ‘fried’ right now. Take care and do what you can for a bit of self care. I love your compassion for the students. They don’t realise your input but I acknowledge it and thank you for it.
It’s so hard when life is busy and seems to be throwing all sorts of challenges at you. I hope you managed your run, and even if you didn’t, I hope you have a better week ❤️
Hey, things sound tough and sometimes life does get in the way, Im feeling frustrated with my running for other reasons, and it helps me to write on here because when people hear whats going on, they tell me to be kind to myself, and maybe, you need to be kind to yourself too. You're half way way there, recognising why you feel as you do. Now you just need to tell yourself that is temporary and you will get there again. 😳
Hi BIT . You seem to be spinning a lot of plates there. It’s so hard isn’t when life throws these massive curve balls at you and then expects you to sort it all out. I hope you managed to get a run in. If not it will still be there when those plate’s have stopped spinning and you can breath easy…. Take care 😂😂🥰
