Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

I’m just back after running at Dundalk parkrun. I have not done any parkrun tourism in a while. So it was lovely to go somewhere new. It was 3 laps around Sports pitches at a 3rd level college. As always lovely volunteers and it was deceivingly warm. I was struggling on the 4th kilometre and took a quick 20-30 second walking break and continued on. However on the last kilometre I picked up the pace and averaged a 5:30 min/km pace resulting in a sub 30 minute 5K time. Official parkrun finish time of 29:58. I’ll take it. Hope you all have a fab weekend.
Excellent run for you today Damien, sub 30 minute 5k with only 2 seconds to spare at 29:58, well done, I wasn't at parkrun today but I did run a short 3K run very near to where I live, keep on running but keep 😎 cool. ✅
Well done damienair, you must be delighted with your sub30 minutes run, especially in this heat (assuming you have the same as we do!). Enjoy your weekend!
Second week of not running which feels a bit odd. Last week I marshalled with Shakes and this week I’m Run Directing with Katnap.
It was a good day. We did the alternative course as the regatta is on this weekend. It just chops the far side off and turns the course into a 4 lapper. Normally it’s a bit unpopular but I had a couple of people say they enjoyed it 😀
We weren’t forecast rain but it did chuck it down for a half hour or so. Most runners were quite grateful for it but I had to move a lady under the pavilion roof whilst I treated her foot after she twisted it in a hole in the grass.
Running again next week before we head off abroad for our first international parkrun - can’t wait!
Well done for your first aid this morning TailChaser . You never know what you will be doing as RD. Really excited about your impending parkrun. Have a great time with the boys.
Thanks Dexy, it’s all getting a bit real now. I need to email them to double check how to get from the station to the start but plenty of tourists seem to do it. As for the first aid, very useful to have the knowledge and the kit to do so. I didn’t know instant ice packs were a thing!
You must be keen to get back to running TC but we all know that Volunteers make it happen so well done for being RD! And for your first aid skills in coming to the aid of an injured runner! Enjoy your internationalparkrun when you get there!
Thanks OG, always worth being an RD, and anything else tbh. And thanks to my workplace for putting me on the course. Will do. It seems an awful long way to do a parkrun - my report may be a little late in a couple of weeks time!
I was on a tourist parkrun with Oldgirlruns and Fenton the Southsea parkrun bear this morning . Fareham parkrun is set alongside Fareham creek just 25 minutes drive away, in what what was the grounds of Cams Hall.
17C but very sultry with little breeze and once the sun cam out it was certainly hot. It is a combination of gravel paths, woodland trails and baked rutted mud paths . We were glad to have trail shoes on. The hedges haven’t been cut back because of nesting birds so it was quite narrow in places.
Like Southsea, it is run 2.5km, and turn around but to a grass funnel where the grass was quite long. We run alongside a golf course and I was pleased there were no stray golf balls this morning.
A very friendly parkrun that ends at a pub for refreshments but we headed up to the dovecote cafe set in the old stables and out buildings area of Cam’s Hall and had a doorstep bacon sarnie and cappuccino.
Strava says I PB’d on the return half, but got held back on the first km due to the number of runners. Very happy with a 34’ 20”. A good bit of girly time too, as UTS was helping out at Southsea.
Great run and apres run Dexy5. Had hotel hash browns, egg , bacon and mushrooms this morning……running seemed superfluous. Nice calm sea for our trip to Scilly, dolphins to welcome us and lots of friendly entertaining chat on board….only thing missing was a run. All in good time.
A friend of mine had that op earlier this year. He was telling me today that is was successful but he ended up paying . NHS date came through, but just too late.🙄
Even if I wanted to, I don't have that option - private hospitals don't have cardiologists on call and because the op would be under a general anaesthetic, my AF means that is needed just in case there was a cardiac issue. Will just have to wait my turn.....
I haven't been able to run this week due to injuries sustained on holiday (whilst running 🥴 so today I volunteered as a Marshall at our parkrun. Really enjoyed seeing it from the other side and giving encouragement to the runners. In our first 4 home was a chap pushing a double buggy with twins!!!! Good temperature for a run this morning as it was a bit cloudy and cooler of late. This afternoon I've done some strength and flex exercises. Hoping to get back out again next week and will be looking where I'm going 😆.
Hi damienair. This morning was a tourism day as Dexy5 and I travelled the few miles over to Fareham parkrun. Dexy’s done it before but it was a first for me. An ‘out and back’ mixture of path, trail and rutted hard track and mostly quite narrow which was interesting for we slower runners when everyone else was coming back - definitely single file only! The route is sandwiched between Fareham Creek and a golf course, so to one side there were lovely views of boats and on the other there were signs warning you to ‘beware of low flying golf balls’! I did a fair amount of walking this morning as it was so hot but managed a time of 48:25, which is probably better than it would have been had I run the whole thing! A yummy bacon sandwich, iced coffee and a chat in the sunshine with my friend finished off this very pleasant parkrun!
It’s such a friendly parkrun isn’t it? That’s the 2nd time we’ve done a tourist run when the loos have not been opened before the run! Hopefully not next week for our race!
It’s parkrun, so all very polite JP - but just be aware that if you see an OGR coming towards you on a narrow path and she’s keeping to the correct side, it’s unlikely she’ll be jumping into the bushes to give way to overtakers or those running alongside each other ! 😂
So today the park run route was changed due to a football festival in the main park!
So we had a different start and run 3/4’s of the lake then double back round the lake! 1st run post rehabilitation graduation run as I had been using C25K to get back into running! Since breaking my shoulder! Shoulder is still not healing properly but physio and consultant both said yes just be careful! Using the plan a a rehabilitation plan is really good!
But back to park run it was still very warm and dusty! But a really good one sprinted the last 100ms and was met by my fellow club runners and my daughter and grandson
it was very much so to begin with but it’s the restricted movement and discomfort! Running has been helping with the gentle swing of my arms! Swimming is another one that helps breaststroke and pool exercises does help.
That looks like a beautiful parkrun lake BGood and how lovely to have your daughter and grandson waiting for you at the end. Good luck with the rehab, that really does sound painful.
Tourism to Brighton and Hove parkrun for me today. I somehow managed a PB despite the hilly bits. Don’t know how that happened. My age-grade score was 62.70% so there are some benefits to getting older. Next week I’ll be walking at my local parkrun as I have a 10k the next day along with a few ARB’s from HU 😃
lovely Mudita11 . I used to live in Hove and witnessed the demise of many trees in Hove park in the great storm of 1987. So sad, I cried. But it must be a brilliant parkrun.
Looking forward to seeing you next week. I was advised by a fellow parkrunner to get there early as the parking is a bit mad and they had to delay the race last year.
It’s a lovely park Dexy5 and a lovely area in fact. Know what you mean about losing trees. So sad when they’ve been happily growing for many years then suddenly gone.
Looking forward to seeing you too next week. Thanks for the heads up on the parking. Will have to get there early. Hopefully we’ll have cooler but dry weather 🤞🏼 🤞🏼 🤞🏼 x
What, no more chocolate brownies? 🫣😬. I guess you could have strawberries with the brownie- that must balance things out. Hope you’re off the IC very soon BC
We are on the Isles of Scilly now. The cafes have a whole smorgasbord of cakes and other delights….but I will have to show restraint or I will put on weight. Mrs BC thinks I have cellulitis now….I suspect I will be dragged off to a walk in clinic in the morning 🙄
As its nearly 4 months since my hernia diagnosis, with no news on the op front, I thought I'd experiment with some brief jogging sessions during my walk at Lakeside parkrun this morning to see how it went. I did 5 in total, each lasting about a minute and they didn’t cause me any particular problems - hence the time of 46.52. Although my usual pace/time is out of the question, i think further experimentation is worth a try - keeping a careful eye out for any pain or increased tenderness. 😧🤞
It must be so frustrating, waiting for an op date JonathanP . But it sounds like today’s experiment worked out well. I hope you were walking when going under the motorway.
Finally got in a, Not Park Run in on Sunday... first 5K solo since April... it was slow, steady, little style, but plenty of satisfaction... according to Coach Bennett... ( he ran with me.). 44 minutes... 5,34K
Very well done Oldfloss . Any 5K run is a massive achievement, it does not matter how fast or slow you run it. It always bursts through with massive satisfaction. Great running.
