Many of my running club members headed off to Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire for their annual 10k this morning, but I had a date with Shake-and-run TailChaser and Katnap at Warwick Castle for the 2 Castles 10k. It was a beautiful sunny morning, so, being mid June, it was also rather warm and we decided to miss the warm up as we were already perspiring! 3000 runners on a closed road course, starting just outside Warwick Castle and finishing inside Kenilworth Castle is quite special, but, with almost 100m of elevation gain and, it felt like, not a lot of downhill and only a modicum of shade, it was rather challenging. There were lots of local residents out with hosepipes and sprinklers and 2 water stations to keep us cool (didnβt work π). My first 5k was on target at 33.06, but then I had to take a walking break up a rather steep hill and it all fell apart from there, finishing in 1.13. Good to meet another VRB Runnerno briefly before we started. Am I glad I did it? Yes! Would I do it again? Maybe not! Great atmosphere though.
Well, that was tough π₯΅π: Many of my running... - Bridge to 10K
Well, that was tough π₯΅π
Oh go onβ¦ π
(sorry I missed you Runnerno , looks like you got a good time though, I knew you would!)
Well done on that time in this heat, it sounds like a great run to do but maybe spring or autumn when it's cooler
That sounds like a tough race in the heat Sandie . You could probably have done with some of the rain that we had down south. But you did it with your lovely buddies and have lots of pics to prove you did. Plus of course thereβs bling and T-shirts.
Looks like you had a lot of fun and earned some lovely bling Sandie.π
Your time sounds great to me especially given the heat and hill!
Happy days...these meet ups are quite special. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ xxx
thank you so much for coming. I really enjoy sharing these new hobbies with you. (Although I sometimes wonder if a past time such as flower arranging might be a little less uncomfortable!!).
That sounded like hard work Sandie, a fab time considering hills and heat π how fantastic to meet up with running buddies too π
Oh wow well done Sandie, now you can smile about it and feel proud that you well and truly earned that medal! Lovely meetup too, as they always are. Hope you celebrated with some cold. ππ₯π»π₯°
Definitely one of the toughest (although Cheltenham and the Wine Run also stand out). Shakes very kindly put up Mr S and me on Saturday so we went to see Calendar Girls The Musical which was fun, had a pub roast after the race and a large G&T in the garden after the drive home π Slight miscalculation with the return to Warwick from Kenilworth, but thatβs for another day π
Well done Sandie. Sounds like a feat of endurance - hot weather and hills, ok separately but together!π©
Hi Sandie1961 Nice to meet you at Warwick Castle and very well done at 1.13 only just missed your target time by 0.03 a great time in that heat π
Hi! Nice to meet you too. It was hard wasnβt it? Hope you did ok too!
It was a hard slog in the sunshine yet the great support from the spectators along the route helped.I too missed my target by 2 seconds! and came in at 1.00.01 Happy with that for my 1st ever race.π
7am and 25 degrees! So much for my βbest the heatβ plan this morning; no matter.
That sounds really tough Sandie. Just a couple of pointersβ¦.. I think discipline may have slipped a bit; the Uniform βOrder of the Dayβ seems to have been overlookedβ¦unless of course you ended the run with a less than subtly disguised spy in the camp. The castle looks to be intact too! That apart, not a bad showing at all. Where did you find the energy for a night out after that? πππππ
Sorry BC, we decided the armour might be a little warm ππ Isnβt that a cracking shot of Warwick Castle though? Taken on the move too to avoid a pile up as we shuffled towards the start line. Shakes very kindly put us up on Saturday night and we went out to see Calendar Girls The Musical on Saturday evening, which was fun, then nipped to the pub for Sunday lunch. After that it was time for the drive home and a large G&T in the garden before I crashed!
What gorgeous photos! It does look a fab route and I love the idea of running between two castles (well, I am a princess π π)
Well done Sandie, you did really well considering the heat and the hills π
Errr, think of all the toxins you sweated out??? Just trying to find another bright side apart from the obvious fun of the meet up
ooks like a lovely run though!
well done Sandie1961 on completing a hard run in a very good time! I will be in Lincoln on Saturday 22nd July and was wondering if you are available whether you would like to meet up at Yarborough Leisure Centre parkrun as I'm doing the parkrun alphabet challenge and yarborough is my "Y"! (If you recall I was supposed to come to Lincoln back in November but sustained an injury which I'm only just recovering from..)
Hi! Unfortunately we spend several weeks in summer at our house in France and this year weβre heading out there on 16 July. So close π£ Next time? π€
Absolutely brilliant-love all the smiles! Wear that bling with pride! Iβm earmarking that event as a possible for next year-the setting looks superb. β€οΈπββοΈπ π°π°
Apparently it used to be a ballot as it was so popular, but this year was first come, first served so you need to get in quickly. My t-shirt was admired at running club last night π
Thanks for the tip! Those race t shirts are so great to wear afterwards. Iβd feel weird wearing my bling but my Bath finishers t shirt makes me happy every time Iβve got it on. I would most definitely be admiring yours!!
Sadly I donβt get to wear them as much as Iβd like! We tend to wear club t-shirts for club runs and I wear my parkrun t-shirt for parkrun, but I do have race shirts in almost every colour π€£
