Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Ha Ha. No quite the opposite. parkrun in Ireland starts at 9:30am. I fell last week and ended up bruising a rib and cutting my left elbow. So I struggled around the course this morning. I didn’t run all week as I was so sore. Less sore today but still very uncomfortable 🥴
Oh no Damien, that’s not good to hear. I’ve broken ribs being catapulted off my horse, and boy they were sore. Not much to be done though. Hope you heal nice and quickly. 🤞
cheers Cheeky. Thankfully none broken. Just my bottom rib on my right hand side is bruised. Was very sore earlier in the week, but healing well. This morning I managed to run a good bit, it felt like someone was jabbing me very hard in the side with a stick. I should be much better next week.
Hi damienair & (not) park runners, and park runners,
It has been raining all week here in Western Australia. It felt so greasy under foot so the goal was really not to fall over. I’m going away next week so will miss Park run for two Saturday’s but will be doing (not) park runs whilst away.
No.2 Son came in 20:00, Hubby in 27:21 & I got 28:43.
I managed to speed up on our grass section but the Merino wool layer was a mistake. No tomato face photo evidence thankfully🤣🥵
Great triple sub 29! I need to do lots of calf raises when it gets greasy on top…all that extra work for calf muscles and peroneals struggling to keep us vertical. Hopefully the influence of the dreaded bug has gone now.👍
I beat Jenny! Huge caveat; she’s a little under the weather and was undecided whether she’d run today, but since it’s my last for 3 weeks she didn’t want to miss out, so we went to Severn Bridge and she opted to trot with me. It would be easy as pie for her.
She ended up giving me some useful advice and also had me sprinting between poles at one point! 🥵 She even let me pip her to the post and I came in one second ahead. 🎉That’s a first, never to be repeated! A hot, but very enjoyable run. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🥵
That’s very true Dexy, and it’s not likely to happen again any time soon! It was lovely running with her though, even when she was making me break out of my comfy trot! 😂
She made a great coach BC, and was demonstrating what she meant. I didn’t appreciate it at the time as I wasn’t allowed to stay in my chipmunk trot, but it was great fun after the event! 😅
A guided step outside our comfort zone is definitely a big help. I pushed things a bit this morning, but courtesy of NRC I feel as though I have a slightly better idea of what I am doing…until the next niggle.🙂
Good run for you and Jenny, well done to both, it's now summer so as you say things are getting hot, I was the tailwalker for the second time at Palacerigg parkrun, nice walk talking to the parkwalker and some of the other volunteers as well, enjoy the rest of the day relaxing in the sun.
Thanks Al! Definitely a warm one and no shade either. Better than wind and rain though. 🙏 Well done for tail walking. I’ve only done it once, but would like to have another go. 😀
Being tailwalker is very good, you can talk to other walkers, however, it's a popular volunteer duty and have to book many weeks in advance, it still counts on the number of parkruns you have ran which was No. 84 for me today.
Oh heck it was hot today and we have no shade or protection at our parkrun, so I took the opportunity to be just a teensy bit lazy and walk it! My excuse was that Coddfish was walking because her chemo means she can’t always manage to run and we haven’t seen each other for a while as I was away last week (with a little tourism to Arrow Valley Parkrun). So we had stuff to catch up on! A very gentle time of 56:19 but we were out there and in fact saw a number of people walking who would normally be running the whole thing, it was that sort of day! An iced coffee to finish while sitting on a bench watching the sea and chatting, that’s parkrun for you! The photo is of our beach which is looking lovely at the moment with all the plants in flower.
A wise decision Oldgirlruns . There is no shame in walking at parkrun, especially when it includes a RB catch up. I hope you all wore your rainbow colours today.
I wore my Southsea apricot. Oldgirlruns was in her red V50. Mr Coddfish was wearing his dayglo pink Bath Buccaneers Hockey shirt from when we all ran GSR 17 for pancreatic cancer research in memory of our brother in law. Sadly I have put too much weight on through my treatment ‘journey’ for my pink shirt to feel comfortable on a hot day .
Good afternoon Damien, this morning I was the tailwalker at Palacerigg parkrun for the second time, the weather was lovely and sunny with a light east wind and a temperature around 14C, I enjoyed my walk talking all about parkruns and other runs to the parkwalker, being the tailwalker means being last but also talking to some of the marshalls as they leave their posts and helping to carry any signs for them, one of the marshalls told me that she has ran many marathons and several ultra marathons too, I congratulatled her for that, I also met the man who has videoed all the parkruns in Scotland and told him I enjoy watching them on YouTube, all in all a wonderful Saturday morning for me.
Well done Al. That’s a fantastic volunteer job, you get a run credit and a volunteer credit plus you meet the lovely people who volunteer and the wonderful people at the back.
Hello damienair and friends. Today we decided to do a tourist run to Havant which is the closest not yet done. Lee on the Solent is our official NENDY, but that’s only if you can fly . Havant parkrun is set in Staunton Country Park so includes gravel and dried mud paths with cambers and ruts,, up hill and down hill, round a lake, under trees and in the blazing sun. One little lap and 2 big laps.
Well having had a girly break with a little (?) alcohol and lovely food involved. I wasn’t in peak condition. But it was less than half an hour away and had to be done.
The downhill was vey steep gravel so you couldn’t just go for it but I went as fast as I thought safe. I was concentrating on the path so much I missed seeing the lake on the first laps! Lots of walking and talking to runners on the last laps.
It was hot , but I was running when UTS popped out of the trees to take a picture. Thankfully , there was plenty of shade at the finish tea room. 39:54 says it all.
it is lovely Mudita11. I’ve been there for summer evening concerts before but not seen this bit. A great tea room too! And we did plan it to miss the mud. 🤣
I wrote somewhere that it was chilly this morning. The sky was clouded over, and we have had a chilly NE wind for then last week. However by the time I was ready to run, the celestial curtains had been opened, the sun was shining and the temperature was 20 degrees…which for here is quite something! I intended to do 5k intervals this morning but the app wasn’t playing! So I decided to try to pick up the 5k pace a bit after running a very steady warm up. It was in the end a lovely morning. Lots of people and dogs about, but nobody got in my way. The extra heat made the running easier and the whole place had a nice feel to it. I was really looking for a sustainable pace which was quicker than the 7:30 easy pace I have fallen into on long runs. The 5k time ended up at 33:45, with each lap around the same pace. So job done. The flat white and brownie tasted even better than usual! Only two more runs and then I will be able to enjoy the hilly runs of Scilly…I suspect that IOS will be a touch hotter! Hope everyone had a great morning.🙂
Thanks CC. The benefit of being on small islands is that you can assess the weather each day and position yourself accordingly. The holiday starts with me on the deck of the ferry, binoculars in hand, on the look out for dolphins….the unwinding starts there.
Hi damienair Tasha and I volunteered at Flatts Lane Parkrun this morning. It was a lovely morning. I was scanning and Tasha gave the finishing tokens out.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we decided to rest today as it was Blaydon yesterday and Hardmoors Half tomorrow. I have only ran it once and it is a cracker of a hill. Let's hope we meet up again maybe over the summer 🌄
It is known to be a tough one because of the hill, which I think you do twice. It's a lovely quiet one though. We try and volunteer roughly every 10 Parkruns.
Parkrun number 72 and my 17th visit to Hafan Pwllheli.
Boy, was it hot and humid! Parkrun des sables.
The tide was about as far out as it could be. However, there was only a narrow strip of firm sand. Up the beach was fluffy and down towards the water was also soft with shingle. Just before the turnaround point it got very fluffy with banks of large shingle.
There was a light wind in our faces on the outward trip, but on the return we were running with the wind so there was no cooling effect whatsoever.
Seasoned runners were walking. I did walk/run too on the return leg as I was getting overheated. Due to the curve of the bay as we approached the finish the wind was blowing across us again. The sand was also firmer there. I went in for a tiny push to the finish.
The turnaround point marshal was doing it for the first time today and was worried if she'd put the cone far enough out. I asked her for a ninety-niner with chocolate sauce, and she agreed that it would be a good place for an ice cream van. When people got back to the start we realised she'd actually put the cone out further than usual, so we'd actually run about 5.7km in total.
No PBs for anyone today (apart from one speedy 10 year old).
I hung around afterwards to chat with a few people, then went back to the car where I towelled off and glugged down my reserve bottle of water. Then to Lidl, the butcher's shop and back to my parents.
Official time: 36:05. Finishing position 30/57.
It was warm enough this morning that my watch has started to do heat acclimation calculations (up to 10%).
Runners line up for the start of parkrun at the shore.
I had an overnight trip to St Albans to do Jersey Farm parkrun. It’s a beautiful course and a bit hilly. Lots of long grass which we had to avoid as there are skylarks nesting in it. Got chatting to a few people who will be doing St Albans half marathon tomorrow. Hope the temperature drops a bit for them. It was blooming hot this morning. Wish I could have stayed an extra day or two in St Albans - seems a really lovely and interesting place. May well return one day.
Well done on your parkrun tourism today. Great to run somewhere new. My two boys ate playing sports just after my local parkrun at the moment so I have not been able to do any touring in a while.
Hello everyone! After complaining all week about how cloudy, cold and windy it has been in Lincolnshire this week (I only just resisted putting the heating back on on Wednesday!), today typically finally dawned bright, sunny and 18c, just when I could have done with it being cooler 🥵 Back to Market Rasen for parkrun no 78. As I’ve got the 2 Castles 10k tomorrow, I decided to take it a bit easy, although set off too fast, as usual! Official time 32.59 and 2nd in my age category out of 6.
It was walking as usual at Lakeside this morning - with a difference. I managed to persuade Mrs JP to join me for her first ever parkrun! We had a nice chat with the tailwalker on the return leg and came in just under the hour - but even with the shade round the lake, it was very warm!
It was certainly a hot one this morning wasn’t it JP but well done for getting out there again! And how nice to have Mrs JP with you as well - I hope it’s not her first and last PR!
I had a fall last weekend. I tripped on a guideline for a marquee and fell awkwardly grazing my left elbow and bruising my bottom right hand side rib. It was very sore to even walk during the week, never mind run. I decided to attempt parkrun this morning and I found it very tough going, I had to take a few walking breaks to recover from the pain and discomfort. But I still managed to run and walk a time of 32:56. All things considered not too bad. Hopefully it will be better next week. It is healing up pretty well.
I was determined to do parkrun yesterday as I'd missed last week due to not being well. When I realised I couldn't do it again this week due to what I'm thinking may be hay fever, thick head, coughing, watery eyes, sneezing I thought wait til Sunday and do a not parkrun. Sunday came and then I thought I'd do a 10k and select the fastest one as a not parkrun. I then changed that to a 15k as I need to increase my run distance anyway and pick the fastest of the 3 as a not parkrun. Well the route was the next problem and I tried to use different roads that I don't normally use and of course I could go up Danygraig hill, then across the dunes, then miraculously I found myself running the parkrun route 3 times and as I was puzzling where I would finish as doing it 3 times foreshortened the route on the second 2 laps I woke up with a thick head, coughing, sneezing and watering eyes. The worst thing was my legs ached as if I had run 15k 😂 Well fingers crossed I can run Tuesday and parkrun next Saturday 😀
damienair What bad luck on your fall. I hope you treat yourself well and only start running again when you are properly recovered. I did PR on Saturday and it was about 22degrees at the start. A bit warmer after I went on to do 9K. An odd distance but I had gone over 8K and decided to round it up. I found a fair amount of shade luckily. Even more lucky it was a lot cooler after the rain cleared the air yesterday- still warm though. Tomorrow might be even hotter- no rain forecast, I will find lots of shade I hope.
