Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

No Park run for our family today as hubby & I are both unwell. We did get to run a sunrise 5k earlier in the week on a rare night away from our boys. It has been a very quiet week on the running front. Still hoping for a quick recovery so I can join everyone for the HU/HM later on in the week.
Get well soon. I’m in the same boat. I got something last weekend. Still trying to recover from it. Really struggled at parkrun this morning. Hopefully we will be back to normal next week.
Today was another day where I’d planned to do a run that was further away, but decided on the closer one as I’d have been late otherwise.
I ticked off W off my Alphabet challenge with Wormwood Scrubs Parkrun. It’s near the prison with the same name.
It was my first run entirely on grass, which was a new experience.
I read somewhere that running on grass is better for your knees, but I’m not sure I agree given the uneven surface and higher chance of trips and slips 😅
Today was the first time I'd taken part in parkrun (apart from volunteering) since the appearance of my hernia, 11 weeks ago - still no news on a date for the op.😞 Thankfully I am able to walk without too much difficulty, so parkwalking it was!
A beautiful morning at Portsmouth Lakeside - a slightly chilly breeze but lovely and sunny. Nice to see a few of the familiar faces - met up with a running buddy who was marshalling at the turnaround, so we were able to walk back together and catch up on our respective ailments!
A good turnout with 262 finishers - for what it's worth, my time was 57.47. Happy running, one and all!😀
I was pleased to see that you popped up on my app as having done parkrun today. I know you’ve missed it, and so nice catch with a running buddy and have a chin wag.
A second short run today prior to HM attempt next week. It felt terrible!! Stiff legs, no flow to it all. Not encouraging. When I look at the stats, on paper it was a better run than Thursday’s short run…it just didn’t feel that way! I think my HM attempt will be on the first day I get up next week feeling like running. Yesterday involved a lot of international travel arrangements with the usual associated stress. All done now, so maybe I will chill a bit now. Main lesson is….start off really really slowly!
Your gremlins are having a party BC. Let them, but be sure to tell them to sling their hook before your HM next week. You know you’ve got this, don’t you? 👊🏃♂️😀
it’s a fact that the closer you get to the big one, the less enjoyable the runs leading up to it get. But once you start that HM I am sure you’ll do brilliantly BC.
Good afternoon Damien, with a slightly Eurovison Song Contest theme report for my 80th parkrun at Springburn parkrun this morning (No.11 there) my heart went "Ding a Dong" when I saw my time there of 31:03 and "Boom Bang a Bang" with my age grading of 62.10%, as Johnny Logan winning song went "What's Another Year" it was a yearago that I first went to Springburn Parkrun on there 8th birthday, today was there 9th birthday, no Waterloo to quote Abba but there was ".All Kinds Of Everything" (Dana) regarding cake to choose from after the run, so no need to "Beg, Steal or Borrow" (The New Seekers) anything, the weather was lovely with a temperature of 14C.
Fantastic running Al. Huge congratulations to you on a super run and amazing age grading too. Very well done. Ireland needs Johnny Logan to represent us again next year.
Sorry about Ireland not getting to the final for the 5th time, I watched the semi finals on Tuesday and Thursday and liked the Irish entry very much and was very disappointed it didn't make Saturday nights final, yes perhaps Johnny Logan could once again represent Ireland again or at least write a song for Ireland 🇮🇪.
Lol TailChaser, I could have put in the winning song of the 1976 contest by The Brotherhood of Man which was "Save Your Kisses For Me" but I didn't think that was suitable for my running report..
What can I say except use lots of 🤣🏃♀️🏃♂️😅😵💫🤷♀️🤪❤️ ?
TailChaser and her large Fordy Runs running club contingent had planned a visit to Somerdale Pavilion, aka the Curly Wurly, and mentioned it to a few of the usual suspects. Unfortunately a few couldn’t make it, but I went along with my daughter Jenny, along with Katnap (of course), Dexy5 , UpTheStanley and Oldgirlruns . Jen and I have run it before as it’s quite local, and were able to pre-warn the gang what to expect! It didn’t disappoint! A sea of runners seemingly going in all different directions but never in danger of running into each other, with the tight Curly Wurly spiral run 3 times!
Great fun and lots of great times run. Jen got a PB and I ran my best 5k for months! We then beat the chaotic breakfast queue (well most of us did ) and had time for a chat before heading our separate ways. A fab Saturday morning! 😀
Yes Fenton will be writing a report on social media (or socials as the young people say) early next week. He may appear on Somerdale’s too as the RD took his picture
Just on our way back from Somerdale Pavilion, aka The Curly Wurly. Katnap and I had a double meet up: my running club, Fordy Runs, practically doubled the event’s normal attendance as we took over the place, and we also had the pleasure of Oldgirlruns , cheekychipmunks , Dexy5 and of course UpTheStanley .
We had a very early start and I will happily hit the sack when we get home but it’s been a really fun day. The Curly Wurly is completely bonkers and how they map it out so you don’t crash into people coming the other way is a mathematical miracle. It’s hard work on the fully grassed course but I was pleased with my time, particularly as I came in as 24th female (where there was a majority of women to men!).
I’ll leave the good photos to everyone else and put a post up later with more. There will be a YouTube video loaded up by my club as well (there was a drone flying over us) which I’ll provide a link to once it’s up.
Post run we queued for ages for something to eat but the wait was too long so we had a coffee and crisps with our VRBs then went out separate ways. I think we can all highly recommend this one, particularly as it’s usually a quieter one (but not this time 🤣).
Hi Damien and all. I ran/walked at Southampton today with 974 others. Took it easy as I’m doing a 10k tomorrow - it was great being able to chat as I wasn’t doing my usual puffing and panting 😂. Looking forward very much to running ‘with’ lots of lovely VRBs from here tomorrow 🏃🏼♀️
I picked up a pretty bad head cold last weekend, flu like symptoms, headaches etc. Thankfully it has more or less passed off me except for the cough. I didn’t run during the week so as to give my body the time to fight it off. I attempted parkrun this morning with my cocker spaniel Ruby. I was taking it easy running at around a 6:10 min/km pace. But after 1.4K I got a fit of coughing and I had to walk to recover. I walked until about the 3.5K mark and the ran home to the finish line followed by another fit of coughing. It’s so annoying, just when I was getting fitter and stronger. Anyway, I finished in a time of 39:23. I hope I’m recovered fully by next week.
Well the alarm went off at 05:15 , so we had time to dress and eat overnight oats with a cup of tea before picking up Oldgirlruns at 06:15. Strangely the car SatNav was convinced that we wouldn’t get to Somerdale Pavilion parkrun until 08:58. A bit worrying as maybe it knew of a major accident ahead. We decided to believe the phone app and just keep driving, although I was checking out alternative parkruns en route - just in case 😉.
Of course we got there at 8:30, and met the others ( you know who they are now) by the loos. An attendance record was broken and I am sure there were far more visitors than home runners.
The brilliant thing about this course is you get to see all your friends on various parts of the route. Music was playing at the Curly Wurly, which had to be the highlight of the run, and we got to do it 3 times.
It was all on grass and I did point out to the others last night that I don’t like running on grass as it slows me down. But we were laughing all the way, and I was surprised to come in at 34:00 . 2nd in my Age group.
It really is @coddfish, but it is very well marked as you just run where they’ve mowed the grass. We just laughed all the way round. So good for the soul.
Fantastic run for you today Dexy5, great time as well considering the fact that you dislike running on grass which talking about surfaces I have just had a email from the Run Director of Palacerigg parkrun that the surface which is very bad at the moment is going to be improved over the next 3 weeks, that means that the parkrun I was to be Tailwalker is cancelled on 27th May but he has asked me to be Tailwalker instead on Saturday 10th June which I will be doing.
it certainly looks complicated but unless you are No 1 it’s just a case of following everyone else. The marshals were great, and the choice of music at the Curly Wurly was hilarious.
Huge congratulations to the Curly Wurly runners. I have massive FOMO 😭 However, I headed off to Doddington Hall this morning. A cool, dry, non-windy day and a meet up with a number of my running club members (one of whose son, aged 17, was first in a time of 17.20 - PB 15.52!) It was a rather congested start, as a couple of local PRs were cancelled due to other events, but I finished in an official time of 32.09, another fastest time for 2023 and 70th/140 females, 208/307 and my Strava PR segment was 31.58 which is my first sub 32 for months. Happy bunny 🐰
You were missed Sandie, but it was good to see your run pop up on my app as we sat in the cafe. I’d say you are back to form and coming in faster than me again. 😂.
We missed you Sandie but look what you did instead - you met up with your running club buddies, had a great run and came away a happy bunny! Whoop whoop!
It would have made the Curly Wurly meetup even more fun if you could have been with us Sandie1961 , but it sounds like you had a very successful morning! I’d put bets at sub 30 for you again before too long if this improvement continues! Awesome! 👏👏👏
Hi Damien, well what to say? Dexy5 and UpTheStanley invited me to join them in a meet up today with KatNap, Tailchaser, Cheekychipmunks and her daughter at Somerdale Pavilion aka the Curly Wurly parkrun . After a much earlier start than I’m used to these days, we arrived in good time along with 2 coach loads of Fordy Runners making a total of 226, which smashed their record for attendees. I came in at 209, an excellent placing for me! The run itself is just mad, left, right, round and round, repeat! The thing I liked was that as the usual back marker I tend to see the pack disappearing off into the distance as I trail behind but because of the course here, I found myself in the thick of it with massed runners alongside me but going in the opposite direction! Of course I was lapped but at this super friendly parkrun even the lappers were saying ‘well done, you’re doing great’ as they zoomed passed! A coffee, bacon bap and a chat in the Pavilion cafe with those lovely runny buddies and we were back on the road home again. Thank you Curly Wurly parkrun, you’re bonkers but brilliant and I’m still giggling as I think of you!
I’m still grinning too OGR! Wasn’t it a hoot? More so than when Jenny and I did it last year, because of the sheer number or people. You did magnificently, and it was great seeing you so often and having a wave! What a fun morning. 😀
I will be back soon at PR. At my last PR I was a marshall. I went to Florence for my birthday at the end of April, while I had a cough and then developed another chest infection. I hope to be back soon as I have a 10K on Bank Holiday Monday. Not the best Training "Plan." So frustrating!!!
