MAY QUEST 2023…WEEK 2…How’s it going?

Happy bank holiday Monday everyone…hope you’ve all had a great ‘coronation weekend’ what a spectacular occasion it was…I could only watch on the telly but if anyone was actually there in the crowds I bet it was something to see?!!!

So, my quest isn’t really going to plan at the moment, I’ve been that busy planning and preparing for our coronation garden party and also looking after my sister in law who’s not been very well, that my running has, again, taken a back seat…I did run on Star Wars day though, and I wore a Star Wars t-shirt..as I was running through the park there was another runner coming towards me and he also had a Star Wars t-shirt on…we gave each other a little nod as we passed which made me smile…

I am going to try get out later on today so I will post about how it went…

How is your quest going?? I loved reading all about your plans for your quest..you really are a very inspirational bunch!! Lots of exciting ventures were to be had I hope you’ve all managed to stick to them, if not, I’m sure you’ll all have done what you can..

The weather today here in Yorkshire is a bit grey, warm but damp..every May in the park across the road the fair arrives for a week and usually brings the rain with it so when I saw them setting up on Friday I knew we were in for a bit of soggy weather…it was lovely for our special weekend though but typical for a bank holiday Monday!!

If you have recently graduated here is what the quest is all about…

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

You need, please, to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest.

The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that. Most popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!

If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:

“I would like to join the quest”, or, “count me in! I would like to...”

So come and join us…doesn’t matter when you come on board…

my quest is to get out of the door at least 3 times a week and add some strength workouts to my routine..

Good luck everyone…

MC xx

Doing OK here. The scab on the knee from the fall on the last day of March has just fallen off. The blackened little toe from two weekends ago is now feeling more normal.

No run on Star Wars Day as I was working the local elections (really low turnout at my station). A long day which leaves you tired for a few days after.

It was all short (5km or less) runs in the last week.

I'm enjoying being able to throw on just tee shirt and shorts now the weather is getting warmer.

Hoping there are some dry spells in the coming week. I don't like to set off when it's raining.

And next weekend there is the HUHM...

Hi nowster …sounds like your body is doing a good job of repairing itself and getting back to normal…

I can imagine that it’s very tiring waiting around all day? Did you help count the votes too?

My run on Star Wars day has, again, been my only run so far on the quest so my quest isn’t working out very well…but there’s time!

I love the lighter evenings for a run rather than having to drag myself out of bed at ridiculous o’clock it’s just having time to fit everything in after I’ve fed everyone and sorted out what the day has brought but I am determined to get out this evening.

I am soooooo wanting to take part in the HUHM but it’s just finding the time…working is such an inconvenience for us runners 🤣🤣

The count was the following day starting at 10am. Working from 6.20am to after 10pm on the Thursday was enough!

Hi Mummycav . Like last month, the quest has clarified through doing! The trails around here dried out sufficiently to run last week, so that made my mind up to do an easy long run. It turned out to be one of my most enjoyable runs yet - 45 minutes and made it further along the trail than I've ever walked.

Rain is now forecast every day for a fortnight so I don't expect I'll repeat that soon!

Then yesterday I decided to try the NRC 'first speed run'. It felt great to release the brakes a little after working on nailing down my easy pace these last few weeks.

This all seems consistent with the Magic Plan, and so next planned run is a 20 minute easy run tomorrow. Aiming for 50 minutes on Thursday or Friday, then NRC second speed run at the weekend.

All being well I'll be at 55 minutes by the end of the month, and 60 minutes by mid-June, running 3x per week. Keeping up the Pilates; slipped to once per week lately, so aiming to resume a normal twice per week.

this all sounds very doable for you chrisl72 amd it sounds like you enjoyed your trail run…something I’ve only done once…but I did like! And I always keep crying Pilates back in my life somewhere…I think I may have to go to the gym to get disciplined at that! Good luck for the rest of the week

Hello Mummycav

Yes has been a little soggy for the Bank Holiday. Hope you had a good garden party?

Sorry to hear about your Sister in Law. Hope she starts to get better soon.

All seems to be going ok here (touch wood). I've done plenty of Yoga and Core work with weights the last few days.

Managed a 5KM run on Sunday with my dad & husband. They kept at my snail's pace but it was a lovely run and thankfully was the only day we had good weather.

This week will be much the same. I am planning to fit in a short run early tomorrow as have a conference the next 2 days. In the gaps will be lots of stretching and strength work. And am aiming to get out on Sunday for a run.

Have a good week x

hi  beth_f …thank you…my sister-in-law has managed to break her foot in 3 place and it’s not something the regular surgeons are able to operate on so we are waiting for the registrar to see her and then they’ll make a decision…goodness, she has broken her foot with bells on”

We did have a very good coronation party…lots of food, drinks and good friends, what could be better?

Good luck with your quest x

Thanks for the new thread. Sound like you’ve done some lovely things-the runs will come back. How often do we get a coronation!?!! Good to make the most of it with a party. We had some fun with the neighbours.

This week hasn’t been without its challenges but those were mainly non-running! I’ve got a flat tyre which is being fixed later in the week. That’s making getting to the gym tricky (impossible most of the time!) so I’ve had to adjust the goals. Luckily my physio has had to put my appointment back a week so I think I’m still on to earn a fist bump for good progress next time!

2x gym workouts with progress in squat weights

Due to no car. Instead, I’ll try to make the best of it with home weights and body weight exercises until the car is back in action.

2x Pilates classes ✔️ 1x swim ❌and daily home exercises ✔️

This is going really well. I’ve noticed core strength is coming back and I’m definitely stronger and more flexible around my hips. That’s the major goal.

Run for joy with gentle build in distance if knee allows! ✔️

A couple of good runs this week-a quite speedy 6km on Saturday and 4km pain free today. That was good progress after a grumbly 3km last Monday. The joy was definitely there this morning! It’s tricky to really enjoy it when I’m still feeling worried about whether I’ll get more pain but I’m sure that will go in time.

Have a good week! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Hi Mummycav , hope you enjoyed the Coronation. I managed to miss it completely, being in France without a TV. A cheerful Frenchman wished me 'God Save ze King' so I didn't completely miss out 😂

I couldn't find last week's post despite looking for it, so I'll put my Quest here instead.

If I'd posted last week one of the goals would have been to get back to 5k this month. I managed that on Saturday, so, in the spirit of adding things to my to-do list purely so I can put a tick by them I'm considering this as being achieved.

The other aim is to run more than last month. In April I managed a measly 13.85 km. This time last year I was doing more than that in a week!! I'm already on 8.23, in May 2022 I managed nearly 62 km. I doubt I'll get anywhere near that but never mind. I'm doing a lot of walking so as long as that continues I should be OK.

hi Yesletsgo …that’s quite cute of the Frenchman!! The idea of being in France without a tv sounds very appealing!!

You have rightly ticked that off your list and I darent compare my stats from this year to last year…or even worse the year before!!! But..how ever far or often we run, it’s a run and that’s all that matters & if you’re managing to get some walking in aswell, that’s a bonus and sounds like a proper quest to me 😉

Hello Mummycav and fellow questers - hope you're all well and that you had a good weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed the coronation - it was most impressive. Sorry to hear about your sister in law. Hope her foot recovers soon. Apologies for posting so late. My first week of quests went as follows:

1) YES managed two runs

2) YES - managed to run one 5k in the first week - which was the furthest I had run since last November

3) YES - did parkrun yesterday - it felt great to be back! My first parkrun since last October before my injury. I forgot how good it feels to run with a community and how energised I felt the rest of the day

4) NO - only did my physio exercises twice instead of 4 times and this week haven't done them at all but have at least been fitting in some long walks which must be strengthening my foot

Overall I'm very happy with my quests during the first week. The trend for my recovery post injury is in the right direction 🤗
