How did your parkrun or not(parkrun) go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

I'm away with work and unfortunately not able to do a parkrun although there is one just 2K away from my hotel. What a bummer. So earlier this evening I did a 5K not(parkrun) in Kilkenny instead and ran a lovely route in a time of 28:07. Enjoy your parkruns guys. I'm ever so jealous.

Hi Damien and everyone, like you Damien I can’t make a Parkrun this morning 😢 got to take the car for it’s annual service and mot. I did a not Parkrun yesterday with my club and I’m running the Liverpool spring 10k tomorrow so I’m looking forward to that.

Well done on another sub 30 (I can only dream) and great photo.

Good luck everyone I hope you all enjoy your parkruns (not parkruns).

Your location looks lovely by the way. I must say Parkrun today was particularly nice, so many people dressed in their red white and blue colours, probably not all supporting the actual coronation , but just everyone being happy and smiling and lots of laughter!

Well done on that sub 30, sounds like maybe the running club runs are suiting you. I presume you are still going??

Good morning ! Its seems an age since I was here.... I did a not ( park run) but I did it yesterday !

Does that still count ?

The forecast here at the coast was for heavy rain, today and it is High tide at Hafan Pwllheli Park run, otherwise I may have given it a go! But having experienced a high tide run there once, and lived to tell the tale... I did not want to repeat that experience!

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...

So.. yesterday was damp but not too wet... and I did a guided run and completed the 5.05K in 37 minutes according to Nike,,, and 4.84K according to Strava in 36 minutes! :)

It was not an easy route... some downhills but a few long stretches of upness too! Lots of fun then and I saw a lot of my friends... loads and loads of wonderful...snails!!!

Yes, it still counts, Oldfloss ! You can do a (not)parkrun on other days... Here's the official FAQ: support.parkrun.com/hc/en-u...

It sounds like you had a lovely run and snail dance... I, too, had to side-step a few of them on my run this morning as it was quite moist on the ground and they were out running their own parkruns, I am sure...

Good morning, damienair and all!

I was woken by the sun at 6 am, turned over and slept another 20 minutes, then decided to just get moving. When I got up, I noticed that the sun was burning off the fog, which look lovely, so I went for a (not)parkrun. I've discovered some trailish paths when I go off the main path in a nearby park. Either they were put there on purpose or so many people use them that they look official - far enough away from any stinging nettles... (Now that I am typing this, the city must've put them there... I am in Germany, after all, and RULES, ya know 🤣).

In any rate, I meandered through the park, crossed a street and then started to run next to the channel that gave me the idea for my name here... I had to take a photo of that!

The (not)parkrun itself took me 40:40 with an average pace of 8:05". Even though, I was trying to run slow, it still bugs me... Sigh. Maybe my challenge for May will be to run an over 40-minute (not)parkrun and be proud of it! 😎

Thank you all for your reminders! They are working as my inner critic didn't have much of a chance to berate me of my 08'01" pace on my 30 minute run today. I just felt too elated because the run had felt so good and I managed to be fairly consistent with my pace throughout the run! 🥳 So, I am feeling proud! 😎

And, yes, as damienair put it so well, its all faster than sitting on the couch!

I felt that being coronation day, it would be appropriate to come and do Kingston.

The volunteers were lovely as usual and there were plenty wearing crowns and Union Jack hats. It’s a lovely out and back course along the river. We had to share the path with another event taking place on the day, but it was all very well managed.

I also saw some swimmers near the parkrun finish. Might come back in the summer and join them for a dip in the Thames

Good afternoon Damien & all! Very soggy parkrun at Stratford upon Avon today. It started whilst we did pre-setup and it hasn’t stopped since.  Katnap and I signed up to parkwalk and we wore Harry and Megan masks (I wore a crown just to be extra controversial 😉). Unfortunately they got very soggy but they did survive! I should have a photo at some point so I’ll add that when I can.

We didn’t actually walk together, and I didn’t actually walk. I’m doing 5k a day in May so I had to ‘run’ it. I say ‘run’ but it was actually slower than I could walk it at around 50 minutes but I have witnesses! I ‘ran’ with another of the core team who did walk, and we had a good natter about music and football. Mr Garmin said it was ‘Productive’, not sure how - it’s a complete mystery to me.

Super volunteer day for us as we also did close down and I’ve got the tokens to sort! For some reason no one wanted to take down the funnel in the pouring rain when they could be sitting at home in the warm watching the telly! 🤣 So that’s what we’re doing now!

Have a great runny week everyone!

Good photo TailChaser, image IF for real Megan and Harry did run at a parkrun 🤣🤣🤣, well done on you volunteering as the parkrun parkwalker,, last Saturday I was for the first time tailwalker and completed it in just over 52 minutes but I noticed yesterday at the same parkrun which I didn't go to the tailwalker completed it in just over 1 hour 20 minutes, this was because two walkers in front of the tailwalker were doing the parkrun in 1 hour 20 minutes, I think that is too slow, it means holding everything up for the results to be processed,

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Of course they were there Al 😁😉

That is very slow but parkrun is supposed to be all inclusive so good on them for doing it and good on the volunteers making them feel happy doing it. I’ve heard some awful stories of slow walkers being chivvied along.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

I would never "chivvier" any slow walker along and probably tell them about C25K, Healthunlocked and parkrun but deep inside I would be 'fuming' because they were going so slow, if it was a parkrun with around 500 and the tailwalker completed it in 90 minutes that means the other 499 would have to wait much longer for their results.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I know exactly what you mean Al! I have no patience but my inner voice would be telling me to shut up and keep calm 😂

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

TailChaser, I would like to know if it's the duty of the tailwalker to carry some signs on the course like arrows pointing the direction the runners go and other signs like "caution runners"? I thought that was the duty of the 'post event close down' volunteer' or one of the marshalls, I did that the first time I was a tailwalker two weeks ago carrying several signs by helping 3 marshalls, perhaps I shouldn't have done that.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Our tailwalkers always help out with the close down Al. As they are back of the pack they know no one else will/should come along so it makes sense. This Saturday we didn’t actually have anyone sign up for close down so we all had to muck in. You can always ask the RD to put you down retrospectively for Post Event Close Down.

Solo wet PR at Eastville. Jen was on babysitting duties which scuppered her chance to celebrate her 50th at the Curly Wurly meetup next weekend. She doesn’t mind - in fact she dodged a bullet as she wanted no fuss made! 😅

Must have been the rain that slowed me down because the run felt epic. I felt strong on the hills again which is a great relief. Looking at my splits, the first km is slower than it should be, probably because it’s so much more congested nowadays. Don’t mind, as it was a fabulous run. 🥰

Listened to coronation coverage in the car. We sang Zadok last week at the Bristol Cathedral, and boy does it give me goosebumps. 🎶🥰❤️

I am afraid that I went for a solo Coronation free recovery run with CB and Andy this morning. I am not at all anti royal; I just needed the space. I probably wasn’t missed!

It was the warmest day of the year with bright sun and very little wind. A one shirt day, peaked cap required and the walkway had a feel of early summer. 34:38 for 5k but the total run was 6:36. Just about 7 min per k, which is a bit less slow than my normal recovery run pace and it was a bit of an effort to be honest. Just one of those runs. Maybe last night’s crispy lemon chicken, hoisin duck rolls and special fried rice was just a bit too much to carry. Nice though. Long run on Tuesday this week. I hope that I will be in better fettle then…..I will certainly be slower!🙂

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

And.now I’m hungry BC! That sounds just up my street. Worth affecting the following day’s run for in my opinion. 😋

Beachcomber66 profile image

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

Just see how far your legs take you BC. 🏃‍♂️ I might do 11k tomorrow because it’s more than the 10k I did a couple of weeks ago. How’s that for logic? 😅

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Impeccable logic cheeky. 10% increase, definitely not to be sniffed at. 20k seems an odd distance to me….I would have thought 18k and then on to HM next long run. If I go to 20k it will be hard to resist doing the extra 1k and a bit. … but then it will be too early for this HUHM. 🤷🏻‍♂️ it will sort itself out I am sure.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

I know those runs. I went out on Thursday, hoping to do 11k and stopped at 8k. I put it down the strong wind and half a bottle of wine the night before. You did it though.

Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

I was never going to stop; it just felt harder than it should have done…but hey, I need to take my own advice. It was a win. Molly and I missed our walk yesterday…maybe too much sitting around. We have just got back from today’s walk and I feel really loosened up. 3:40 and no lunch yet….time to remedy that.🙂

TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

JonathanP profile image
JonathanPGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

Frustrated BC - I think my last update here was after I'd seen the surgeon and she was going to fit me in quite soon. Well at that appointment I had an ECG because of the atrial fibrillation I was diagnosed with last year. That was looked at by the anaesthetist who decided that having a general anaesthetic in that unit was too risky - because they don't have cardiologists on site, if there was a 'cardiac issue' during the op they would have to blue light me to the local general hospital.

So I've been re-referred to the general hospital where of course the wait is much longer - I'm waiting to hear back from them to find out how long it's likely to be and if I can go on the 'cancellation' list. Good job I'm a generally patient person, but that has its limits!

A nice bright morning in Lincolnshire, even with sunny intervals (although the rain arrived a couple of hours ago). My 75th parkrun and I was back at Market Rasen after a trip out last week. Very disgruntled that my Garmin time was 32.15 which was almost a minute faster than last week and my fastest time this year by some way. My official time though was 33.16 and I was only about 10m behind the start line so that doesn’t explain a minute difference. Although I had finish token 76, I was apparently 72nd out of 115, so something has clearly gone wrong. On a bright note, I was first in my age category out of 9, Garmin gave me an extra VO2max point, thinks I was Productive and I got a new badge 😊

Brilliant run Sandie; clearly the Garmin time will be accurate. Should be a stewards inquiry really!

Not Parkrun for me today, haven't run 5k in ages but it all seemed to come together and I did it in around 39 minutes!

Looking forward to being near enough to a Parkrun to actually take part!!

I had a good Parkrun yesterday for our Raphael parkrun 8th Anniversary

People dressed up or wore red white or blue.

I also made some number 8 biscuits in red white and blue

They must have liked them they were all gone by the time I had finished.

Wow those biscuits look amazing. No wonder they were all gone at the end. Well done on your parkrun.

No Parkrun here. Yet another attempt shot down by City Hall."We have the Thanksgiving Run so we won't be considering Parkrun unfortunately"

So much for the "Obesity Epidemic in the USA" - you have to laugh really ☹️
