Consolidation works

Hello,

I just thought I’d share my consolidation progress, which might be helpful to others at the same stage. I graduated C25K about 6 weeks ago and since then have run 3 x 5km every 8/9 days (work, life commitments make it difficult to always do in a 7 day period). The last 3 runs have seen my time improve without really trying, and the run is still enjoyable. Basically my average speed over the 6 weeks has increased from 8.9 km/p/h to 9.4 km/p/h. How amazing is that?

Throughput this period I have been keeping myself in check, running slowly, making sure I can speak etc. The experienced runners here said this would happen/work, and I’m amazed at how it is.

Consolidation works and I’m looking forward to starting the 10km plan probably after another month or so., but any advice on when I should start would be welcome as I don’t want to spoil the great thing I’ve got going now.

I hope this post is helpful to some.

Aren't you doing well? You will have a good solid base to increase distance. I hope you are mixing your runs up, different routes different terrains, you could always shorten one run a week and go a bit faster or lengthen one run a week and go a bit further, spread over your 8or 9 days of course.Make it fun now, I started intervals and ran a bit faster (not as fast as I could) to see how long I could up the pace for and in the beginning it was only for a few seconds, but over time intervals have made an overall difference

Enjoy your progression

As Sola said, try mixing it up. It keeps things interesting. Try the Nike Run Club app (NRC). It’s a free app and there are loads of different runs on there. I love an interval run too. The faster running bits are fun but I also like the walking bits in between 🥵😂. It’s great that you are enjoying your running journey. Good luck with extending to 10k.
