I hope you are all doing well. Its been a while since I last posted but wanted to share my experience with you.
For around 12 months now I have been finding the act of running increasingly difficult. I still went out 3 times a week but my distances became shorter and shorter and times much slower. My muscles seemed to be getting weaker and joints suffered increasing pain - not just running joints either but including wrists, elbows and fingers etc.
However, after what should have been a gentle 3 or 4k my legs turned to jelly when i stopped. They didn't go where I wanted them to and I resembled a baby giraffe as I walked home.
Me being me I just ignored it and hoped it would go away but obviously it didn't.
The time had come then for me to visit a GP and after several blood tests he diagnosed extremely low B12 and Vit Ds which he thought were affecting my muscles and joints.
After my loading dose jabs over the last few weeks I decided to venture out today for the first time in about 3 weeks. I managed 3k. To me that was a huge step. My legs and other muscles were fine. I just need to steadily work on building my fitness back up now as I was puffing and panting like an old donkey. Nice and steady.
Without running and noticing my decline I doubt I would ever have known. I would have just put my pains and tiredness down to getting older. A big hoorah for running π
In future though, maybe I shouldn't leave things for 12 months before getting help π€.
Keep on smiling all.
Cheers
Alan

A very inspiring post from Alan996, running did help you notice with your decline and decision to go to your GP, I just hope that you can gradually get back to running longer distances, but take all your runs slow and steady, good luck. π
You are not alone in putting things down to age, Alan! π€£ Hereβs hoping that you are now able to build that fitness up again and enjoy your running once more! Good luck!ππ€
youβre not the only one to do this Alan. You tell yourself itβs nothing and it will go away on its own when inside there is a small voice yelling at you. We can be very good at ignoring that small voice. I think I was brought up not to waste a doctorβs time too which doesnβt help. Glad you got a diagnosis and are beginning to feel better.
I think you are absolutely right Floradora2. My logic has always been you should only go to the doctor when you're ill. Sometimes though it is difficult to recognise when you are ill especially when it creeps up on you gradually. Having then recognised it eventually I didn't want admit I was unwell and so shied away from getting confirmation.π€«
Good to hear you got a diagnosis and meds can help you out but yes donβt leave it so long if you notice anything thatβs not your norm. Well done on your 3k run, I hope itβs the start of many more.
