This was going to be my short run, no walking intervals. Although I’ve started Jeffing, I’m treating those runs as interval runs and plan to do them once a week. Combined with a short run and a long, slow run, my fitness level should soon improve.

Up at 4.50 a.m. and cuppa outside! The air was fresh on my skin after a warm night. Running gear on and out of the door. Not a gremlin in sight. Warm up walk done and I start to run. Heart rate rockets, but I slow down to a steady pace and it drops to Zone 3. I decide not to look at it for the rest of the run. It can do what it likes 😬

Second km faster than my first. I start to push myself, but it’s difficult as I’m too hot! I’m tempted to walk, but refuse to give in. I do slow down at the beginning of the third km as there is an incline. I managed to get into the habit of walking this part, but in spite of the heat I’m pleased that today I kept going. I reach the top of the incline with half a km to go and it’s downhill from there.

There were no cars at all this morning, but a number of other runners. One overtook me! I was not even tempted to try and keep up with him! 😊

I was pleased with this run. I don’t cope well in the heat, running or otherwise, but I kept to my plan of a short run today. I didn’t slow to a walk at all and managed to increase pace for the last half km.

Mr Garmin was happy with this run, too. He wasn’t at all happy while I was only doing 2 runs a week, and reduced my β€˜superior’ status to merely β€˜excellent’. Now I’m climbing back up again 😊. Not back up to β€˜superior’ yet, but working on it!

Splits:

8:28; 7:58; 6:42

Happy running and take care in the heat!

Good for you for the early start and run. It is gorgeous at that time. I got up at 530 yesterday and it was just cool and perfect for running πŸ™‚ Must do it again…

Forget what Mr Garmin said, you’re a runner therefore you’re an athlete πŸ’ͺ

Thank you, IP 😊

I know to take the Garmin stuff with a pinch of salt, but somehow seeing that word β€˜Superior’ still makes me feel good πŸ˜‚

Well done on another early start. I don't seem able to manage it at the moment. That's a good short run Jools and trademark negative splits again. Well done again! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks, Diane. I’m not sure how I manage it myself! Mostly because I know that if I don’t run very early, then I know I won’t run at all in this heat and I’m on a mission ! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Haha, oh I do hope so, it’s about time! Thank you Beatles. I think I’m going to have a lazy day today, my sister and I did all the housework and washing yesterday, Dad is up, showered and breakfasted. Might walk up to the village for a takeaway coffee and cookie! 😊

Well done Jools πŸ˜πŸ‘That's definitely the time to do it ATM .

So pleased you have manished to banish the Gremlins 😁

Hi Jools, Well done on your run this morning. Sounds like you had a number of aims and achieved them all. πŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸ˜ŠπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈI seem to be enjoying my new game of spotting similarities of our runs. Little things please little minds. Well it seems that Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are our run days with Saturday being our longer run. With my current 'nursing' injuries, I am not trying to push pace, although can't resist a few sections of increased pace to try and understand how my injuries are coming along. My two short runs are around 30 minutes. Today time 32m52s, pace 8:45/km, distance 3.75km, average heart beat 122bpm. That is probably lower than it would have been if I hadn't stopped for two photo opportunities. One because the mist and variety of different grasses just had to be captured, including ones that had deep red seed heads. The second stop was for a new experience to me. My first go at acting like a sheep dog!!!!! I had better apologise now that this reply is already long and growing longer! I plan to try and add the before and after photos of my sheep dog experience.

I don't yet know if I can add two photos in one reply. Soon to find out.

You should see 'my path' completed full of sheep. And then the sheep after I very gingerly began to move towards them and those on the path together with lots of others ran off. I see the photo icon has gone, so that photo will appear in part 2!

It didn't work for second photo, I shall try again.

over61andstilltryingGraduate10

So the sheep were a difference on our runs unless you just didn't mention your sheep encounter!I also look keenly at what Mr Garmin has to say. Currently he counts me as superior on a flat run but the level down, is it excellent, on my hilly runs. My watch is a Forerunner 35.

PS I have ordered a support for my Achilles tendon.

Happy injury free running to you πŸ˜ŠπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ and so sorry that I seemed in the mood for an essay!

No sheep on my runs! You did well to move them from the path, one of your more unexpected jobs as a runner! Othrwise we could be running twins. Garmin has demoted me lately to the top end of β€˜excellent’, but I’m heading back up to β€˜superior’ as my fitness level increases. My run on Thursdays is a straight 3Km run, however long that takes! My heart rate went up to 154, but I was pushing myself a big for the 3rd km 😊.

Tuesdays runs will be Jeffing for 30-40 minutes.

Planning a 75 minute run for Saturday, but let’s see what the weather brings, I’m not going to run in a storm or torrential rain. β›ˆ

I don’t mind essays. I’m in a bit of a limbo right now and have far too much free time.

I like photography, too but am not good at taking quick snaps with my mobile. I need time to assess the lighting, background, etc!

I hope your Achilles support does the job!

over61andstilltryingGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

I wasn't quick enough with the photo to properly capture the moment, but it was all very special. Some sheep around here don't even move when you go close to them, but I have never had them completely covering my path before. I am thinking of increasing my Saturday run by 10% compared to the previous Saturday. (Achilles permitting) Do you have the Garmin 35 or a different model. My run was also early well 6am and 17degrees. Felt lovely. 😊

I have a Vivoactive 3. I wasn’t as hot this morning as I was on Tuesday, but it was still very warm out there! Especially that last km πŸ₯΅

I’m planning on increasing my last Saturdays run by 10 - 15 minutes, but I’ll run slowly and listen to my body adjusting the length of the run if I need to, or run farther if it feels like an extra good day!

I see that your watch gives a fitness age estimate, which I have notice other folk have, but mine doesn't. I realise that it is all to be taken with a pinch of salt, as they say, but it all adds to the fun. 😊

Hello Jools, I have missed reading a post from you this Saturday. I do hope that you are alright and I wonder whether you ran. I am also wondering what the youngest Mr Garmin has given you as a fitness age and what VO2 max did that equate to. All a bit of fun, isn't it? I think your posts have suggested that you are in the process of building up your fitness.I did run today wearing my new support and my Achilles tendon was by far the worst that it has been. Oh dear! The support has two parts. A sleeve and a 'strap'. On the way back I stopped and loosened the strap. Perhaps I shall try just the sleeve on my next run.

Hi, I got up this morning to pouring rain and decided to run a bit later. Events had other ideas! A sofa and chair were were being delivered to my Dad’s and I waited for it, supervised that, then helped my brother put the feet on. Then our Dad needed supervising in the shower, and my brother decided to go shopping so I had to make a list! I decided events were conspiring against me and decided to run tomorrow. I’ll post the write up.

I think the youngest Mr Garmin has made me was 21 πŸ˜‚. I’m not sure what the score was, but it was definitely β€˜superior’. Maybe 39 or 41 score I’m not sure. Yes, I’m rebuilding fitness, it’s taking a while! I’ll get there eventually.

Sorry that the Achilles support didn’t live up to expectations, what a disappointment. Take care not to damage it further.

Very well done for this run and your general mojo improvements lately! Unfortunately this week I've either been too hot or too tired to run, I don't function well in that heat, even at 6am which seems to be the earliest I can get out. Good to have some cooler weather, great as the sunshine has been 🌞 Always lovely to read your posts, and great to hear you are doing so well. Your mix of runs sounds perfect, and something I'd like to do once I get past w8, w9 and consolidation!

Thank you! I’m happy with my mix of runs right now. It is wonderful to have some cooler weather, although I coped well with getting out super early. It was pouring with rain here this morning, so I planned a slightly later run - unfortunately other things kicked in, an early sofa delivery and a father who needs supervision having a shower meant I had to postpone completely! When this happens we just have to be kind to ourselves and run when we can! 😊
