As Mr Y hasn't been feeling great I assumed I'd be running alone this morning, but he decided to come along too. I was a bit apprehensive about this. We went for a walk the other day and he had to stop a couple of times but a few days rest can make a world of difference so off we went.

Time was pressing as I had to be somewhere at 11.30 and we got up late. Decided on another π run (3.14km). It was so uninviting outside: cold (around 7C), cloudy, overcast, a chilly breeze from the northeast. I decided if I did my normal 5-minute warmup walk I'd freeze, having left my jumper behind, so we started the run a couple of minutes earlier than usual, through the streets to the footpath across the fields.

Attempting to warm up, I was a bit faster than usual. I was wishing I'd worn gloves so tucked my curled fists inside my long sleeves. There's a hole to put your thumb through but my poor little digit felt like it would freeze and drop off so I kept it inside.

After ten minutes or so I warmed up and my hands emerged. The path was muddy in places so we had to skip to the grass on either side as we ran. At the halfway point we had a choice, to either come back the way we came or to run along the seawall. We haven't been along the seawall path since we got back so decided to see how muddy it was and go that way. The first section wasn't too bad but as we approached the end it was a quagmire. We had to go down to the path alongside at the base of the sea defences. This is grassy which had the added bonus of cleaning some of the mud off my shoes.

We passed 3km and I got my phone out to have a look at the NRC app. I've changed the display so that it shows distance on the Quickstart option so was able to press Stop as I hit 3.14km. Somehow, when I got home and checked the run it said 3.15km, I'm not convinced at all about the accuracy.

On the final walk home I spotted kids sailing dinghies on the river, their parents bundled up against the cold watching their offspring. At least if I fell off the path today I wouldn't have ended up in the freezing water like those brave little sailors. PS the photo is in colour 😂

“The photo is in colour” 😂. It’s that time of year isn’t it?

Great job to both of you getting out there. We always feel better when we do, even if it isn’t appealing looking out the window while we’re getting ready.
