Last night I headed out for my end of the working week (I’m a 4 day a week person) run following the same route as the past few weeks. I’be adapted it so that I avoid any dark bits of road and so it’s reasonably well lit. Or so I thought.
There I was running happily along one of the busier roads of my route and then I took to the air. My left foot caught something - not sure what, possibly a tree route, possibly a raised paving slab - and I was flying, or rather heading towards the ground. I managed to get my right leg into a position to save me hitting the deck. Phew! But I did land awkwardly.
I stood up and assessed the damage. Sore right glute and hip. Outside temperature 5 degrees. I’d dressed for 5 degrees warmer. So I figured I either walked home from there - 3 km - or I ran very slowly. I opted for the latter as I was more worried about being cold at that point. Not sure if this was wise for my leg but it was for my core body temperature.
I made it home and did my usual stretches before having a nice hot shower and using some warming body lotion (uk.sanctuary.com/product/sa... on the affected areas.
Today it ranges from uncomfortable to sore depending on what I’m doing. Walking and going downstairs: uncomfortable. Going upstairs: sore.
What do you recommend I do next? Obviously I’m not going to be running on it until I can walk properly but should I be stretching? Walking? Heating the area?
This is my first injury in my running journey and I don’t want to cause further harm nor delay my return (mainly so that I don’t lose the momentum).
