Clothing that is! Thought it might be a bit cool so wore long sleeves but of course as soon as I started moving I realised a T-shirt would have done. Ah well, never mind. A slow 5.6km today in the autumn sunshine; after yesterday’s rain it was glorious, although quite windy as I came round on to the seafront. Not a huge amount to say about my plod which was an average pace of 11 min per km, so I’ve definitely slowed down recently. But I was happy to be out there - I kept running and, yes, I smiled as well! What did I see? Some beautiful roses, squirrels, white caps on the water and lots of swans on the boating lake . It’s not easy to accurately count while you’re trotting but there were at least 72 as far as I could tell. And the RSS Sir David Attenborough was coming out of the harbour, presumably heading back to the South Atlantic with Boaty McBoatface stowed onboard, so you also get a not very good photo as she goes past (you may need to zoom in!). Happy running folks!
Why do I always get it wrong?: Clothing that... - Bridge to 10K
Why do I always get it wrong?
So many of us are struggling with being appropriately dressed! I was exactly the same yesterday. Running jacket lasted all of about five minutes of wearing before it went round my waist and irritated me for the rest of the run.
Sounds like you had a great time out. Very envious of all your wildlife and boat spotting!
Lovely run for you today Oldgirlruns, you saw a lot of wildlife on that run, nice photo, that boat is the RSS Sir David Attenborough, I have zoomed in, I see white caps on the water, the ship with what I think is The Isle of Wight away in the distance,
That sounds just about right, I know what you mean about clothes though, it's still mild for November
It depends on when you run OGR! I went for my run today at 8 and was very happy with my long sleeve base layer - mind you, after 10k I was definitely 'glowing'!😜
Ah, well, er - I had planned to go out about the same time JP but there was a large degree of faffery involved so it was nearly 0930 before I actually left🙄!
Getting the clothing right is such a challenge right now isn't it?RSS Sir David Attenborough was docked in Harwich and it would have been nice to go and see her, but it just didn't work out. Lucky that you saw her on your run
I am exactly the same, I never learn. I always put on too many layers and get up sweating like mad! Trouble is on these dark nights (as that's the only time during the week I can run) because I have my reflective running vest on and then my chest light, I can't then strip off! Very jealous of your running route, I live very rural so it's just fields and trees and the occasional pair of eyes from the deer or fixes that I sometimes come across in my night runs.🦊
A great run and a lovely photo, going slowly feels so good.
I wore my running jumper for yesterday's run, I thought I'd need it for the first km but it was off a couple of hundred metres after I started thanks to the sunshine. Have to say, annoying as it is to have a jumper tied round my waist while I run, I really appreciate the warmth on my back when I'm on my cooldown walk afterwards
I agree about the clothing issue 💯%! I finally realised it has to be about 2 degrees for me to wear sleeves otherwise I just get too warm. That’s a great photo with the IoW in the background - it looks lovely and fresh! Well done on a great run 😊😊😊.
Ha ha. I was out from 10.00 yesterday but stayed away from the windy prom so I missed you, and Sir David Attenborough. A lovely photo of the windswept sea. I wore a thin long sleeved merino top, which was just right. They say you should add 10 degrees to the current temperature to find out what it’s like for running.
5.6km is excellent Oldgirlruns . I’m sure you’ll be running all of parkrun this weekend. Just stick to your pace and don’t be hurried.
The tricky bit up here is wind chill. Sometimes I am well into my warm up walk before the wind strikes. Only answer for me is a long sleeved top layer which can be tied around the waist if it proves to be unnecessary. Tomorrow morning will be 5C!
Bbbrrr. Layers are a great way to go. I think I wear my running jacket more as a wind barrier than a rain barrier.
Yes, as Dexy says, layers are the way to go. But as I usually take the top layer off pretty quickly and then have to tie it round my waist, it’s probably worth doing without from the start! The trial continues! Hope the calf continues to heal BC!
Because most of my runs finish in the forest, near to my cafe, it is good to have the extra layer to put back on for the walk home. I went back to using flippers in my swimming session yesterday (ok’d by physio provided I didn’t go mad…as if 😇) so I will see how things are this morning; my last couple of runs have felt fine thanks.🙂
I have just got a top which is a long sleeved half way house between a running shirt and my waterproof jacket. For cold dry days. It is a bit lighter and more flexible than my waterproof. Felt ok last time out….still on probation.
love the photo OGRs. I am always envious of your seafront runs. Thanks for sharing xx
